The Clinger- Cohen Act of 1996 drove the government to an astronomical increase in the use of commercial products, software and services, even for use by the tactical Army. CHESS is the Army’s primary source for all of those products and services, but many potential users only associated the program with computer hardware and were not taking advantage of the enterprise software and services agreements, with tremendous Micki LaForgia volume discounts, offered by CHESS. CHESS’ mission is to support the Army’s warfi ghter network centric warfare objectives by developing, implementing, and managing information technology contracts that provide comprehensive hardware and software solutions with enterprise-focused support services within the Army Knowledge Enterprise. You can learn more about CHESS by visiting our booth at the Army’s LandWarNet Conference in Fort Lauderdale from 18 to 22 August. As the Army has scaled back spending on conferences to meet the more urgent needs of our warfi ghters, merging the former Army IT Conference with LandWarNet affords CHESS an opportunity to reach a much larger audience including attendees from the tactical and operational sides of the Army who may not be aware of our role in implementing the goals of the Army’s CIO/G-6. History has shown that when potential users learned about ASCP’s value, they generally chose ASCP contracts over other programs.
