Two Ynhh nurses named
nurse leader fellows
In 2010, the American Organization of
Nurse Executives (AONE) chose two Yale-
New Haven Hospital nurse leaders to be
fellows.
Sue Fitzsimons, RN, PhD, senior vice
president, Patient Services, announced
that Shelley Britt, RN, MSN, patient service
manager, Hospital Research Unit, and
Sara Newman, RN, MA, patient service
manager, Shoreline Medical Center
Emergency Department, were selected.
“We are proud and happy that two of
our nurse managers have been chosen
for this prestigious fellowship,” said
Fitzsimons. “It is an honor and reflects
the depth of nursing leadership here at
Yale-New Haven.”
Shelley Britt, RN, MSN, began her
career at YNHH 28 years ago on the
former neuropsychiatric evaluation
unit. In 1997, she transferred to clinical
research and in 2006 was promoted to
patient service manager of the Hospital
Research Unit. Originally from San
Francisco, Britt earned her nursing
degree at City College of San Francisco
and her BSN and MSN at Sacred Heart
University.
Sara Newman, RN, MA, began her
career with YNHH in 1999 in the Adult
Emergency Department. She then joined
the Center for Professional Practice
Excellence as a clinical nurse educator
where she coordinated the nurse residency
program and the critical care team. In
2007, she was named patient service
manager for the Shoreline ED, which
routinely scores in the 98th percentile for
patient satisfaction. Newman earned her
nursing degree at Cochran Nursing School
of St. John’s Hospital in Yonkers, NY, and
her master’s in public health education at
Columbia University. ■
