Rules: All participants commit themselves to stay for the entire retreat, to adhere to<br />

schedule, to keep silence, not to read and write. Sexual activities are to be<br />

discont<strong>in</strong>ued for the duration of the retreat and the five or eight (old students) silas<br />

(moral practice precepts) to be adhered to. Clothes should be comfortable, white and<br />

decent (no shorts and tank tops).<br />

Note: Well suited for serious practitioners with retreat experience, desir<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>tensive<br />

practice. Also suited for beg<strong>in</strong>ners who have no particular problem sitt<strong>in</strong>g for long<br />

periods of time and who are ready to submit to an <strong>in</strong>tensive and str<strong>in</strong>gent daily.<br />

Sorn-Thawee <strong>Meditation</strong> Centre<br />

Chachoengsao 24110, Thailand<br />

Location: The very well-known center is surrounded by fields approximately 20 km<br />

from Chachoengsao <strong>in</strong> the district of Bangkla, approx. 80 km east of Bangkok. On<br />

the very pleasant grounds there are bungalows, trees, ponds, and a large dhamma<br />

hall. Very friendly atmosphere.<br />

How to get there: Best by bus from Bangkok (northern or eastern bus term<strong>in</strong>al) to<br />

Chachoengsao. Then change for the bus to Bangkla. After approx. 25 m<strong>in</strong>. (shortly<br />

after a 17 km road mark where the bus turns to the left) get off. Cross the ma<strong>in</strong> road<br />

and follow the road about 300 m south, then turn right. The center is another 300 m.<br />

Tradition and focus: Intensive Vipassana meditation <strong>in</strong> Mahasi tradition.<br />

Teacher: Phra Ajahn Charlee Jaruvanno.<br />

<strong>Meditation</strong> technique: Meditators receive <strong>in</strong>dividual <strong>in</strong>structions daily. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

retreat the four bases of m<strong>in</strong>dfulness (observ<strong>in</strong>g the body, the feel<strong>in</strong>gs, the m<strong>in</strong>d, and<br />

the m<strong>in</strong>d objects) are practiced. All aris<strong>in</strong>g phenomena are noted mentally. The<br />

primary object of meditation dur<strong>in</strong>g sitt<strong>in</strong>g is the ris<strong>in</strong>g and fall<strong>in</strong>g of the abdomen and<br />

dur<strong>in</strong>g walk<strong>in</strong>g the movement of the foot. Formal practice should be eight to twelve<br />
