Eagan Police Blue Blotter
A Periodic Publication Describing Police Activity in Eagan
The Mission of the Eagan Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to arrest
offenders, prevent crime, solve on-going problems, and improve the overall quality of life in Eagan...
Just tell us your name will ya….
On May 1st, officers were called to a home on Cedar Lane regarding a male
pounding on the residents door demanding to be let inside. As officers approached
the residence, the male fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended and
taken into custody. While speaking with the suspect, he provided two fictitious
names to police and was in possession of a fake identification card with an additional
false name. Through investigation, it was discovered the suspect had a
blood alcohol level of .22, a revoked drivers license, and two outstanding warrants.
He was taken to the Dakota County Jail.
We did our part….
On May 1st, officers received information from the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office, located in
Western Montana, that a fugitive with an active arrest warrant was possibly working at a business
in Eagan. Based upon this information, officers went to the business and located the suspect. He
was taken into custody without incident and was taken to the Dakota County Jail. The suspect
was wanted for embezzlement.
Not you again…..
On May 2nd, officers responded to a local apartment complex regarding an intoxicated/disorderly
woman. They arrived and located an adult female who is well known to police staff. On many previous
occasions, officers have met her due to repeated acts of bad behavior. Once again, the suspect
was causing problems for other residents in the complex, and through investigation, it was
discovered she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Officers took her into custody and
brought her to the Dakota County Jail.
Nice work by officers, but not a nice guy….
On May 3rd, police responded to a report of an armed robbery that
was occurring at a local apartment complex. A male suspect approached
an apartment dweller who was smoking a cigarette on his
first floor patio. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and fled after
obtaining a credit card. While officers were responding to the scene,
a second armed robbery was reported in the same area. During this
incident, the victim was “pistol whipped” by the suspect. Police established
a perimeter to contain the suspect. Detective Schultz was helping
secure the area when he was approached by the suspect. It was believed the suspect was
intending on robbing Detective Schultz! Schultz identified himself as a police officer and told the
suspect he was under arrest. The man fled on foot, but was quickly apprehended by Detective
Schultz. Both victims were able to positively identify the suspect as the one responsible for the
robberies. In the man’s possession was the credit card stolen from the first victim. Additionally, a
pellet pistol used in the robberies was located by a police canine after the suspect threw it as he
was running from Detective Schultz. The man was later taken to the Dakota County Jail.

We know your hiding spots…
On May 5th, while on routine patrol, Officer Thul observed a vehicle speeding on Cedar
Avenue. He initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. In speaking with the
subject, Officer Thul detected an alcoholic odor emanating from within the car. The suspect
stated she had had “a couple” drinks earlier in the evening yet had bloodshot and
watery eyes. A drug recognition expert with the Minnesota State Patrol, evaluated the
suspect and discovered she was under the influence of a controlled substance. The lady was taken
into custody, and while conducting an inventory search, officers located marijuana, drug paraphernalia,
and a small vial connected to the suspect’s keychain that contained miscellaneous pills.
She was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and taken into custody.
Let your ex go or we will take you away…..
On May 6th, officers were called to a home on Crossroad Court regarding an unwanted party. Officers
arrived and discovered the female resident was arguing with her ex-boyfriend and wanted him
to leave. It was discovered the male had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was taken into
custody and driven to the Dakota County Jail.
Can’t drive a scooter either…..
Too drunk to find my dog…..
On May 15th, officers responded to a local restaurant regarding an intoxicated male
that was attempting to leave on a scooter. While in the area, police located the suspect
several blocks away lying on the ground next to the scooter. Investigation revealed
the man was involved in a crash. He submitted to field sobriety tests and
was arrested for DUI. He was later transported to the Dakota County Jail.
On May 17th, Eagan Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Wescott Road where one
vehicle rolled over onto its roof. When officers arrived, they discovered the driver of the rolled vehicle
was walking down the road looking for her dog. Investigation revealed
she was intoxicated. The driver of another vehicle involved in
the crash explained he was driving eastbound when he looked in his
rearview mirror and saw the lady’s vehicle accelerating towards him at
a high rate of speed. Before he could swerve out of the way, the
woman’s vehicle rammed his vehicle from behind, and put his car into
a spin. At the same time, the suspect’s vehicle rolled. Witnesses to the
incident corroborated the victim’s story. The victim sustained minor
injuries, and was transported to the hospital. The suspect was subsequently
arrested and was transported to the Dakota County Jail and is
expected to be charged with DUI and criminal vehicular operation.
Two’s a crowd....
On May 18th, while on routine patrol, Officer Thul arrested an individual for DUI and was taking the
suspect to the Eagan Police Department for processing. On the way, Thul observed a vehicle driving
in the wrong lane on Blackhawk Road. Thul stopped the car where investigation revealed the
second driver was also intoxicated. The man was also taken into custody for DUI and later released
pending charges.
Where’s mom or dad…..
On May 19, officers responded to Jade Lane on the report of two individuals breaking
into vehicles. They arrived and located the suspects who were inside a vehicle
and were “rummaging around.” Police made contact with the suspects and discovered
they were intoxicated and underage. Both were arrested and taken into custody
for tampering with a motor vehicle and minor consumption.
You’d be surprised what people will tell ya……
On May 23rd, police stopped a vehicle that showed the registered owner possessed a revoked
driver’s license. Upon making contact with the other occupants of the vehicle, all were acting suspiciously
and were extremely nervous speaking with officers. Officers asked if they were using any
sort of controlled substance. All admitted they were. Further investigation revealed the driver was
in possession of marijuana and the passenger was in possession of a syringe containing heroin.
Both are expected to be charged for drug possession.

Leaving on a jet plane….
Thanks for being up-front….
On May 23rd, Eagan Police Officers received a phone call from a United
States Marshall, based in Orlando, Florida. It was conveyed an individual
with a nationwide arrest warrant for “battery by strangulation” was staying at
a hotel in Eagan. Officers checked the hotel and discovered there was a
guest registered with the name given by the U.S. Marshall. Ultimately, police
arrested the fugitive where he was transported to the Dakota County Jail
awaiting extradition.
On May 24th, Officer Ryan stopped a vehicle because its headlight was unlit.
Upon making contact with the driver, the man stated he was unaware of the violation.
Officer Ryan asked for identification where he admitted his driver’s license
may not be valid. The man added he may possess an outstanding arrest warrant
too. Records checks revealed the suspect had a suspended driver’s license and
two arrest warrants. Ultimately, the guy was cited for driving after suspension and
jailed for the warrants.
A safe ending to a scary situation…..
On May 26th, during a heavy rainstorm, a motorist called in a road and driving complaint regarding
a vehicle that was “all over the road”. The caller reported witnessing another vehicle driving off the
roadway onto sidewalks and had hit two light poles. Officers were initially unable to locate the vehicle,
but a second caller phoned about the same vehicle and reported the suspect vehicle left the
road and crashed into a ditch. Police responded and discovered the driver was having a diabetic
reaction where he lost control of his vehicle. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
A happy reunion…..
On May 28th, officers were called to a local apartment complex regarding an
unclothed two-year old boy walking around the parking lot all by himself. Police
arrived and attempted to locate the boy’s family. They canvassed the building,
asking residents if they recognized the toddler. Officers located a resident who
had seen the child earlier outside an apartment on the first floor. They knocked
on the apartment door and didn’t get an answer. After the police announced
themselves, an adult male answered the door and stated he was not missing a
child. However, after a brief conversation, the man realized his son had simply unlocked the apartment’s
door and left. The two were happily reunited!
