E4 FOREWORD
Netherlands In Your Pocket celebrates its second anniversary
this year. In this fourth edition of Tilburg In Your
Pocket we offer a varied and colourful range of independent
reviews written by our own researchers. Once again,
they’ve worked overtime to visit every single restaurant,
bar, hotel, theatre, museum and pub to bring you unbiased
information. And while the Dutch government may no
longer support cultural life in Holland, the city of Tilburg
clearly values this essential part of everyday life. Read
our Culture & Events pages to find the perfect concert or
festival for you.
By the time you read these words, fall or winter will be in
full swing. But don’t fear the cold or rain because this city
always pulsating with life and you can sense it on every
corner and on every square. The thousands of local and
international students that call this university town home
only enhance this feeling by making a nightlife scene you
won’t want to miss. Any visitor will also discover vibrant
restaurants, an impressive calendar of cultural events
that includes concerts and art exhibitions and a hip air of
freedom and vitality.
A lot has happened since the first Dutch issue of In Your
Pocket hit newsstands two years ago. During this time
we’ve expanded and covered even more cities in the Netherlands.
’s-Hertogenbosch was first, followed soon after
by Utrecht, while Amsterdam and Tilburg made their debut
in 2011. Although some of these cities may seem like
surprising choices to some readers, it’s In Your Pocket’s
aim to be your personal guide to Holland’s undiscovered
gems. Our quest continues in 2013, so look out for more
In Your Pocket city guides in the Netherlands. For now,
explore Tilburg and enjoy!
This issue’s cover features one of
Tilburg’s most outstanding modern
monuments: Concertzaal Tilburg. The
architect used a unique combination of
wood, aluminum and glass to create the
structure and the interior is equally as
stunning, especially the ceiling, which is
illuminated with colourful lights. Photo
be pocketed) and the number of In Your Pocket
amazing five million.
