2009 - D T Price - the DHO

The snow conditions were perfect for the race. There was more
than enough and after the first slalom had been set at “stupid
o’clock”, the organisers knew we were in for a great few days.
Reeds and Millfield, who have produced teams since the first
championships in 1999, continued to scream past the Tag Heuer
timing device in such a way that you’d think they spent their
summers training in South America! Be that as it may, St Paul’s,
Bedford Modern and of course the happy bunch from Dulwich
did very well this year as in previous championships.
The Sunday Times Cup for best British School team was won by
Reed’s, with Tonbridge and St Paul’s close behind. The SnOasis
Cup for best British based Children’s school team was won by
Dulwich, with Gayhurst 2nd and Dulwich’s 2nd team in third
place overall.

Thanks, gratitude and a slap on the back are due to many people,
especially our friendly Meiringen mountain man Christian, AKA
Bergfuhrer Chrigel Willi and his team. Accommodating and
willing, they made the course setting and the whole behind-thescenes
run smoothly. Once again Christine Flueck greased the
cogs and sprinkled her bit of magic at the Tourist Office, allowing
160 or so British kids to turn up in their town and hurl themselves
down their slopes. The British Association of Snowsport
Instructors were our joint sponsors with SnOasis and Base Camp
and receive our grateful thanks.

Lastly, there is nothing more supportive to any competitor than
being applauded, consoled and rejuvenated by team mates, friends
and dare I say it – teachers! It is great to see this spirit alive at
The British Schoolboys Ski Racing Championships. Long may
this tradition continue.
