A peek at some of the 

happy couples days’ 

gives you a little taste of what Ribby Hall Village now has to offer. 

Following the opening of our Spa Hotel in August 2011, it’s hard 

to believe that a whole year has passed and yet so much has 

happened in that time - the European Football Championships 

are now a distant memory, The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has long gone, The Open Golf 

Championship at Lytham created a great buzz for a week in July and the Glorious Olympics 

are well and truly over. 

Looking back, I am extremely proud of our achievements during the past 18 years but particularly over 

the last 18 months. Our workforce has increased to 345 with another 130 people working within 

Ribby supporting our core business, a fact that I find gratifying, yet daunting! We also continue to 

trade with numerous local food and beverage suppliers and contractors. 

I am fortunate to have so many enthusiastic, talented and dedicated people working alongside me 

with a mindset of ‘we can always do better’ and I believe this has played a significant role in our 

continued success – despite the recession affecting so many holiday and leisure businesses. 

Recently I was very proud to see so many international sportsmen staying on The Village for The 

Open Golf and I am equally pleased that more and more local residents enjoy spending time here - it 

would be great to see this trend continue. We have an award-winning Health Club, Conference and 

Banqueting Facilities as well as a wide variety of excellent Restaurants and Bars, and a beautiful Spa 

Hotel - all available to non-residents. 

A warm welcome awaits everyone who visits our Village and we genuinely look forward to exceeding 

all your expectations during your time with us.

The Spa Hotel is fast-becoming the destination of choice for special 

celebrations across the Fylde. Two local ladies, who recently 

celebrated milestone birthdays with friends at the adult-only venue, 

share their experiences. 

Sue Saddington, who lives in Lytham, was treated to a surprise stay in May to 

celebrate reaching her half-century. 

Sue said, ‘It was the perfect start to a week of birthday celebrations. 

My sister surprised me by inviting a couple of friends to join us first in 

the Spa and then for a delicious meal in the Brasserie. The treatments 

absolutely blew me away and the food in the Brasserie was sublime. 

I travel all over the country on business and I honestly wasn’t expecting 

food like this. I can’t wait for the next excuse to celebrate!’ 

Jill Fernandes was whisked away for an overnight stay by three of her friends. 

The fab four started the 2-day birthday celebration at the Spa Hotel with Starbucks 

coffee and pressie opening before embarking on the Aqua Thermal Journey. 

Manicures and massages were planned for the afternoon - so lunch was an 

alcohol-free zone and the champagne put on ice for later in the day! 

Jill, commenting on her 2 days, said ‘I had the most fantastic experience 

with my friends. It was so relaxing and enjoyable. I could have been 

anywhere in the world – and yet was only 5 minutes from home!’

Keith Lemon was recently to be found on location at The Spa Hotel. The comedian was 

there filming for his TV series ‘Lemonaid’ which sees Keith helping dreams come true 

helped by a different celebrity each week. 

The episode which aired on 14th April on ITV featured a couple from Darwen enjoying a Spa treat 

organised by Keith - they didn’t realise that he would be joining them on their ‘romantic’ break! 

The team at the Spa loved having the inimitable Keith around . 

...no doubt he and the chefs were discussing ‘potatoes’ – ask the kids!

from The Good Spa Guide – an independent, 

comprehensive guide to the UK’s Spas and treatments. 

The Good Spa Guides team of experts have a rigorous review process and 

look at every aspect of the spa - from cleanliness to customer service to the 

fluffiness of the towels! The Spa was duly awarded their highest accolade - 

a glistening 5-bubbles! 

The Spa was also voted No. 2 in the Independent Newspapers feature, 

‘The 50 Best Spas in the UK’. A panel of experts chose which spas were to 

be included and amongst other positive comments about Ribby Spa said, 

“There’s great space and natural light throughout with clear views of 

the Lancashire countryside. A good value spa that doesn’t compromise 

on quality.”

MATCHMAKING HEAVEN! 

Zoe and Tom Ashton were 

married at Ribby Hall Village 

on 21st April 2012. Zoe arrived 

in a limousine to be told that 

the brave groom had chosen 

to have the ceremony outside 

- despite the forecast of 

showers and hail. ‘Someone 

was obviously looking out 

for us as the rain held off 

and it was fantastic to be 

able to get married in the 

Summer House in the 

beautiful grounds of 

The Village’ said Zoe. 

The story of how Zoe and 

Tom met is an intriguing 

one. Tom had worked with Zoe’s mum at Susan 

Eve Estate Agents in Poulton and she regularly extolled Tom’s virtues to 

her four daughters and said how much she wished one of them would 

end up with someone like him. It appears the wish came true and totally 

unexpectedly the couple met on an evening out in Poulton, neither 

knowing who the other one was! A holiday in Bergerac followed, 

Tom popped the question and the wedding was organised for the 

following year. 

With the bride being one of four daughters and the groom being 

one of five sons, the size of the extended family made up the majority 

of the 65 guests invited to the ceremony and wedding breakfast in 

The Garden Room. And as the evening reception got underway

On Friday 9th March 70 couples and their families were 

invited to The Woodland Suite to experience ‘A Taste of Your 

Big Day’. The idea of the complimentary event is to give all 

bride and grooms who have booked their wedding at Ribby 

Hall a flavour of what they will experience on their special day. 

The evening began at 7pm with Blue Lagoon and Mojito cocktails 

served with a selection of canapés. Paul Green, Food and Beverage 

Manager, welcomed everybody along and introduced the rest of the 

wedding team. The couples and their guests sampled a 3 course meal 

- wedding breakfast style -accompanied by fine wines and fabulous 

entertainment by Howard Wing and our resident DJ.

the number of guests hit almost 200. “We were completely overwhelmed 

when we walked into the beautiful Rowan Suite and were greeted by 

loud cheers and clapping from all our family and friends” says Zoe, 

“we felt like celebrities!” 

Tom added “Every couple wants their day to be as perfect as possible and 

ours exceeded our expectations 100% - we can’t thank Kristina and the 

rest of the Ribby team enough for all their hard work and advice. People 

often ask us ‘Do you wish you could do it all over again?’ and our answer 

is ‘No - there is no way it could be so flawless second time around!” 

“ To this day my mum still claims to 

have been the matchmaker!” 

It seems mum really does know best says Zoe!

Simon Ball is Head Chef in The Restaurant 

We asked him a few questions to find out what makes his creative juices flow 

What made you become interested in being a chef? 

Wasn’t clever enough to become a fighter pilot! Seriously, my mum 

and dad were both great cooks and I grew up with a love of good 

home cooking 

Where did you train? 

I started with an apprenticeship at Blackpool & Fylde College then joined 

Heathcotes at Preston and became Head Chef at Twelve in Cleveleys. 

What do you like about working at Ribby? 

I’ve been here about 18 months and I’m enjoying building up a regular 

following and getting to know what people like. We have a beautiful 

restaurant and a real mix of clientele – business people, holiday guests 

and families. 

What’s your favourite kind of food? 

Classic, clean flavours cooked to perfection - I hate it when good produce 

is cooked badly. 

Favourite Restaurant? 

Connect 24 in Barcelona - really quirky food and great atmosphere - 

an absolutely amazing experience! 

Do you get your 5 a day? 

Yes definitely. I’m really strict with my diet and training but that doesn’t 

stop me indulging now and again. 

Who cooks at home? 

Me - I’m never off duty! 

Who is your favourite Celebrity chef and why? 

Gordon Ramsay - I did a scholarship with him back in 2001. I also admire 

Michel Roux junior.

NURSERY TOTS HAVE A FIELD DAY 

AT WREA GREEN’S CLUB DAY! 

The Nursery and pre-school at Ribby Hall Village recently brought 

Olympic fever to Wrea Green and in doing so achieved a worthy Bronze! 

In preparation for the big day, the children got stuck in to making lots of creative 

arts and crafts including Olympic flags, torches and sporting equipment. 

The boys and girls looked fantastic and it was obvious they had all put a lot of 

effort in to making their costumes. There were show jumpers, boxers, footballers, 

swimmers and dancers. Two extra special Ribby friends of the children also joined 

them on the day - ‘Dizzy the Duck’ and Papa John’s very own ‘Mr Slice’! 

Gemma Bresnihan, Nursery Assistant said, “We all had a great day and it was a 

lovely surprise when the children received a certificate for 3rd place. Staff at the 

Nursery would like to say a huge thank you to parents and children for all their 

hard work in making it such a special day”. 

The children are now busy working on their next project which is 

a Teddy Bears Picnic taking place in the Ribby Hall Village woods.

What were your first impressions? 

I guess it was down to gut feeling… I just knew the Nursery on 

the Village was right for Ola. The children looked happy, there 

was a great atmosphere, food is freshly prepared each day and 

staff were very friendly. I loved the location as it’s convenient 

for my work, it’s not on a main road and there’s plenty of trees 

and green open space for the children to explore. 

What made Ribby Hall Village’s 

Nursery stand out from the rest? 

I loved the natural environment its set in. 

Ola is able to experience plenty of walks 

on the Nature Trail which has a variety of 

trees, plants and flowers. There are also 

horses, squirrels and ducks for her to look 

out for on the village. 

How has Ola’s development 

progressed from baby to toddler? 

The Nursery has helped lots with Ola’s development. 

She has a daily record book and a portfolio which 

includes photographs and descriptions on all of her 

developments. The next step is moving Ola from 

the baby & toddler room up to the pre-school 

play room. Staff have been excellent in helping 

her with this transition.

FOAL’S pARADISE AT 

THE EqUESTRIAN CENTRE 

In June The Equestrian Centre was blessed with the arrival of a new member to their family. 

A young foal later to be named ‘Harvey’ was born on a wet June morning marking the start 

of a new era for the newly-managed Equestrian Centre. 

Tina and Jason Ledden took over the Centre in November 2011. After owning their own horses 

for over 10 years they decided to take on a new challenge and haven’t looked back! They were delighted 

at the birth of the new foal which came after a busy 6 months for the whole team as the stables 

prepared for their ABRS (Association of British Riding School’s) and BHS (British Horse 

Society) accreditation which the centre passed with flying colors. 

There was a lot of speculation about Harvey’s name prompting a flood of suggestions 

on Ribby’s Facebook page. Suggestions included Jubilee, Zeus, Olympia and Rascal. 

In the end however Harvey was struggling to walk and his first attempts ended with 

him walking in to walls hence the name Harvey (wall banger)! Harvey will stay at the 

Equestrian Centre and undergo training so that he can be part of the team. At the 

moment he is spending his days with his mother Kirby in the outdoor paddocks and 

all are welcome to come and visit him!
