We liked the
school because
it was
really relaxed
and
the classrooms
were
big and well
decorated.
Their café
was really
nice and
good to
hang out in.
If we were
able to go back, we would
definitely go because all of
the people were really
friendly and welcoming to
us. We thought it was a
great opportunity and
would be happy to set up
an exchange, because the
school was so different
from ours and so much
better because of it.
My favourite thing about
the school and the whole
trip was the fact that after
school, which finished at
1.00, we were able to go
shopping, which we can’t
do here in England.
Maria’s favourite highlight
was the P.E lesson. Because
Checkie had a science
exam we both had to
go to Annika’s lesson. She
had P.E and we were allowed
to join in and we
played dodgeball, but their
version. We had a really
good time but we did
spend half of our time on
the bench!
We met the mayor on the
second day, and we were
able to ask questions
about Aalen and learnt a fair
amount about the town.
For one of the days we went
to a spa in the evening
where we relaxed, but our
time was cut short because
we had to go to Checkie’s
Carol service, which he sang
in.
Then on the night before
leaving, we went shopping
in Ulm, which had a large
shopping centre like Southampton
but better. We
spent a good four hours
straight just shopping, and
spent a lot of time in the
Christmas market outside of
the cathedral. We went back
the next day but had to wait
a few hours because our
plane was delayed due to
the fog in Heathrow. We
were happy to wait and no
one complained, We all had
fun and made some great
friends.’
Six students from the 3 local
Secondary schools set off
in response to a gift from
the mayor and people of
Aalen. Highcliffe
All accompanied
by me Tina
Wright and sent on
our way with good
wishes by the
Mayor of Christchurch
David Fox,
in a mini bus (Thank you
Round Table) to Heathrow
and then a BA flight to
Stuttgart.
The Chairman of Aalen
Round Table – Boris Erdmann
- was waiting there
to transport us to the Eichenhof
Hotel (thanks to
Sven a Round Tabler) and
a meeting with our host
families.
Each school had been
linked with an Aalen school
and the students visited
these each morning to
take part in lessons and
activities. A morning
school start time between
7.30am and 8.00am was
rather a shock to the system
for the Christchurch
students who handled it
pretty well but don’t want
it to happen too often!
Students and staff were
very welcoming and
friendly and as the German
students were very anxious
to practise their English
(much better than our
German) no one got lost.
