It is not the first time that the Port of Valencia has played host to four cruise ships on the same day (the record for calls of this type of vessel at the port in just one
day), yet it confirms that interest in the city amongst cruise passengers continues to grow.
A total of 216 calls are scheduled for this year (+40%) with around 400,000 cruise passengers (+60%). “This will have a global economic impact of between €50-
60 million which will double the results obtained in 2010”, according to Tourist Office statistics.
The PAV's Cruise Traffic Manager, Cristina Rodríguez, presented the captain of the “Adonia”, David Perkins, with a plaque to commemorate the vessel's first call at
Juan Antonio Delgado, PAV Deputy Managing Director; Ramón Gómez-Ferrer, PAV General Manager; Mercedes
Customs Authority Director; Inmaculada Gómez, Special Delegate for Valencia; María Serrano, Head of the Regional
Customs Authority in Valencia; and Federico Torres, PAV Deputy Managing Director.
al organismo público como a la entidad portuaria;
Valencia leads the way in updating Spanish customs procedures
The Regional Customs Authority in Valencia has been chosen to carry out an initiative to update customs procedures which will subsequently be implemented
in all Spain's Customs Authorities. This reflects the trust placed in the regional organisation, a fact which was underlined by the Customs Department
Director, Antonio de la Ossa, on his visit to the Port of Valencia in September.
The Port of Valencia has always had a close, productive relationship with the Customs Authority. Cooperation between the two bodies has led to important
projects which have made the port more competitive and by extension have brought “useful services to the economy”, as the Port Authority of Valencia
Chairman, Rafael Aznar, pointed out.
For his part, De la Ossa reiterated the Customs Authority's gratitude for this historic partnership, which has been fruitful for both the public body and the
port authority; “without this joint strategy, Customs would not be as efficient nor would the Port of Valencia's throughput be as good”.
