ecommended to more precisely estimate these parameters before the analytical model
of Gash is extensively applied. The plant communities tested showed also statistical
differences to interception loss (P>F=0.0001). The largest values were recorded in
tamaulipan thornscrub plots and the smallest in coniferous forests of the eastern Sierra
Madre. Based on the parameters of the analytical model, P'g (rainfall needed to saturate
canopies) was relatively larger in coniferous forests whereas average evaporation rate
during storms (E) was relatively larger in the tamaulipan thornscrub. The model of Gash
must be run with parameters independently estimated between plant comunities as well
as between the plant community when applied to the landscape scale in northeastern
Mexico.
