Anopheles argyritarsis Robineau-Desvoidy, 1827<br />

Larvas: En agua dulce, parcialmente sombreada o expuesta al sol, <strong>de</strong> pozas en sueIo, acequcas, zanjas<br />

d e pr&tamo, agua estancada en arroyos, pantanos, con poca vegetacihn acugtica; tambie’n huellas <strong>de</strong><br />

ganados, hoyos <strong>de</strong> rotas y huecos <strong>de</strong> &boles; a menudo con A. gambiae (anteriormente) y A. rondoni.<br />

Larvae: In fresh water: partially sha<strong>de</strong>d or exposed to sunlight, of ground pools, ditches, borrow pits,<br />

stream pools, swamps, with small amount of aquatic vegetation; also in hoofprints, rock holes and<br />

tree holes; often with A. gambiae (formerly) and A. tondoni.<br />

Adultos: ZoAfi<strong>los</strong> (animales dome/sticos), pero a veces se alimentan <strong>de</strong> hombre y se reposan en casas;<br />

usualmente se reposan fuera <strong>de</strong> casa, especiahnente sobre pastos.<br />

Adults: Zoophilic on domestic animals, but will feed on man and will rest in houses; usually rest out-<br />

doors, especially on grasses.<br />

Larvas: Las h em b ras entran las cairas <strong>de</strong> bamb; por medio <strong>de</strong> agujeros hecho por insectos horadadores<br />

don<strong>de</strong> ponen huevos en el agua atrapada entre 10s nudos <strong>de</strong> bamb;; larvas y pupas se crian en este<br />

agua y 10s adultos recien emergidos logran escapar por 10s mismos agujeros.<br />

Larvae: Adult f emales enter bamboo canes through worm holes and oviposit on water collected between<br />

the bamboo joints; larvae and pupae <strong>de</strong>velop in this water and the emerging adults escape through the<br />

same holes.<br />

casa <strong>de</strong>spuds <strong>de</strong> alimentarse; suelan ocurrir en alta <strong>de</strong>nsidad; pican durante d;a y noche, pero ma’s<br />

active en 10s crep&cu<strong>los</strong> matutinos yvespertinos; alcance <strong>de</strong> vuelo por lo menos 1 km; m&s corn& en<br />

10s a’reas sin &boles o con pocos &boles, con poca sombra, a lo lado <strong>de</strong> la costa <strong>de</strong> Brasil.<br />

Adults: Zoophilic, but readily bite man in houses; usually do not rest in house after feeding; often occur<br />

in great <strong>de</strong>nsity; bite throughout day and night, but most active at dawn and dusk; flight range at least<br />

0.5 miles; most common in open or thinly forested areas, with little sha<strong>de</strong>, along the Brazilian coast.<br />
