Abstract: The article presents the advantages of a simplified form of Jean
Piaget´s Constructivist Pedagogy. This approach called the Method of the
Arch is based upon the students´ active protagonist role by applying the
Arch’s five stages: Observation of Reality, Identification of Key Variables,
Search for the Problem´s Cause, Solution Alternatives, and Application to
Reality. The role of the teacher is not to transmit knowledge but to facilitate
the effort of the students in the analysis and solution of the problem being
studied.

1. Introducción
En los años 70, la Secretaría de Agricultura del estado brasileño
de São Paulo enfrentaba un problema: sus técnicos
extensionistas de campo no estaban consiguiendo que los
agricultores adoptasen las prácticas recomendadas por la
investigación. La Secretaría contrató entonces los servicios de
un consultor, un educador rural francés llamado Charles
Maguerez. Como yo también era consultor de la Secretaría, en
Comunicación Rural, nos hicimos buenos amigos con
Maguerez.
Para conocer el problema que la Secretaría le presentó,
Maguerez pidió asistir personalmente a las reuniones que los
