5. Las diferencias florísticas permitieron
formular listas de especies caldcólas y calcífugas,
las primeras sobre las segundas.
SUMMARY
1. Fourteen localities, in which limestone
and igneous hills are situated close to one another,
were chosen in the south-western and central
part of the Mexican state of San Luis
Potosí, in an attempt to study floristic and ecological
differences between the vegetation of
both kinds of hills.
2. Floristic censuses and brief ecological surveys
on both fades of each locality were realized.
5. Fight of the fourteen localities showed
differences in vegetation? types as well as floristic
differences, in the resting six localities only floristic
differences were observed.
1. Ecological data indicate the fact that of
the two vegetation types, namely: desert caldcóle
scrub and cactus-mezquite scrub, the first develops
exclusively on limestone and the second
one on igneous substratum. It can also be observed
that the large cacti (Myrtillocactus, Lemaireocereus,
Opuntia) are confined in the area to
soils on igneous rock.
5. F'loristic differences allowed the elaboration
of lists of caldcóle and calcifuge species,
the first ones being much more abundant.
6. Conspicous plant indicators are resumed
in the form of a table and a few observations
are included with the aim of enabling the identification
of limestone and igneous rocks by
means of vegetation.
