BASA magazine
Museum and
Conservation Area.
Cataloguing
these two disciplines. On the one hand, Nature is viewed in
opposition to Economy, emphasising the chasm between those
who reduce economic reasoning to monetary dimensions and
those who see Nature as devoid of the human species. And
on the other, Nature is driven towards Economy and viceversa,
to reflect the conciliatory tendency enunciated in the
present approach, which has begun to materialise in the
academic world as well as in the declaration of intentions of
certain specialised bodies.
The BASA magazine, published by the Professional Association
of Architects of the Canary Islands, was presented at FCM
headquarters on 1 February. The event was attended by FCM
Activities Director Fernando Gómez Aguilera, the editor of
the publication Germán Delgado Pérez and architect Fernando
Higueras.
The 24th issue of BASA devoted its Islas (Islands) section to
Fernando Higueras, one of the most significant personalities in
Spanish architecture in the second half of the twentieth
century, who maintained a close professional relationship with
the Canary Islands and in particular with Lanzarote and César
Manrique.
After presenting the magazine, Fernando Higueras discussed
his artistic career, the keys to his work in the Canary Islands
and his close relationship with César Manrique.
DEPARTMENT OF
CONSERVATION
AND PLASTIC ARTS
The Department continued to engage in the
museum-related tasks entrusted to it and the
temporary exhibition programme, while pursuing its policy of
co-operation with other institutions.
In 2002, progress was made in the process of cataloguing
César Manrique’s artistic production, both in continental
Spain, where the work initiated in 1994 is practically
complete, and the archipelago, where it was undertaken in
2000. A total of 134 new pieces were catalogued. During the
year, measures were also taken to begin to catalogue the
artist’s works in Germany.
