In the current time, and given the social and
financial situation we are facing, it has become
almost routine to receive negative information
that ends up affecting our mental
and economic health, yet I firmly believe
that these hard times should not destroy
the good disposition of our people or a positive
vision of our future.
It is true that many sectors are going
through very hard times, but those of us in
the technological sector need to look to the
future together, with excitement, in order to
reverse this situation. It is time to show ourselves
that our professionals are amongst
the best in the global market, that the expertise
underlying our businesses is on par
with the best industries, and that our technologies
have demonstrated for years the
ability to solve the problems of our clients
by providing them with innovative solutions
Made in Spain.
Unfortunately today those magnificent
foundations are not enough, we need a
credible effort demonstrating the will to
change. My proposal is to look to the future
with a new vision capable of changing the
organizational and mental structures of our
businesses and of the Administration, bringing
them closer to the concepts and values
so critical at the present juncture.
The starting point should be flexibility as a
key driving strategy for all activities; flexibi -
lity allows for the modification of schedules
by consensus to focus on labour productivity;
flexibility that allows the Administration
to ease the tremendous bureaucracy
and to bet on the creation of value from
the industrial world. A flexibility that allows
us to compete and collaborate between
industries, with the firm backing of our
State; a State that on occasion focuses on
rigorous compliance with certain European
standards when it is well known that other
countries in the European Union, consciously
and deliberately sidestepping basic
issues related to the competition law, forcefully
support their domestic markets and
the internationalization of their national
businesses.
I would also like to highlight how important
it is that it be the State which leads the way
in changing policy related to innovation,
moving the centre of gravity from basic research
to applied research and from University
to the business world, which in reality
is where knowledge is turned into product
and thereby generates wealth.
Finally, I advocate for a flexibility that permits
us to grant ourselves the mutual trust
needed to undertake a process of sustainable
internationalization, a process in which we
share individual resources to benefit all, and
by extension, our society. A new vision that
allows us to believe firmly that our future and
the future of our sector remain bright.
