Estimados pasajeros:
a globalización de los mercados ha hecho que cada vez sean más
Lfrecuentes los anuncios de colaboración entre compañías. Si bien
es cierto que la mayor parte de ellos reflejan una voluntad real de trabajar
coordinadamente para crear sinergias, algunos otros obedecen más a
cuestiones de imagen que a verdaderos intereses de fondo. Habitualmente
se trata de acuerdos marco que, intuimos, nacen vacíos de contenido
y nos hacen preguntarnos: debajo de este gran titular ¿realmente hay
algo?
Iberia, en el mes de octubre de este año, firmó un importantísimo
acuerdo de negocio conjunto con American Airlines y British
Airways para incentivar el tráfico aéreo en el Atlántico Norte. Dicho
convenio ha mejorado sustancialmente la conectividad entre Europa
y los países que suscribieron el Tratado de Libre Comercio: Canadá,
EEUU y México. La diferencia entre los retóricos acuerdos de colaboración
a los que me refería al principio y el convenio del que les
hablo, son los tiempos verbales. Mientras que en los primeros
siempre utilizan el futuro –nosotros haremos…– sin jamás pasar
de ese tiempo al presente de indicativo, el acuerdo de explotación
conjunta se ha implementado ya en tiempo récord y genera valor
para los pasajeros de AIR NOSTRUM, aquí y ahora.
Les pongo un ejemplo. Si un médico de Austin (Texas) quisiese
acercarse a un congreso en la ciudad de León, podría tomar el vuelo
de American Airlines AA684 desde ése aeropuerto al de JFK en
Nueva York. Allí enlazaría con el vuelo AA152 hasta Barcelona y en
la Ciudad Condal tomaría el AA5338 para desplazarse a la capital
leonesa. Viendo esto en los sistemas de reservas, cualquiera se preguntaría
¿cómo es posible que American Airlines opere un vuelo doméstico
entre Barcelona y León? La respuesta es que el vuelo AA5338 es, en
realidad, el vuelo IB8758 operado por AIR NOSTRUM, pero a efectos de
la poderosísima maquinaria de comercialización de American Airlines se
trata de un vuelo propio. Es decir, aunque en la emisión del billete y en la
tarjeta de embarque informen al pasajero de que el último tramo lo hará
con una compañía asociada, el producto se vende bajo marca AA: American
Airlines.
Pero, además, los beneficios de los que les hablo estarían incompletos
si no mencionase el Oneworld Transfer Center recientemente inaugurado
en el aeropuerto de Barajas. Este novedoso servicio solamente
existe en los aeropuertos de Chicago-O´Hare, Miami, Nueva York-JFK,
Londres-Heathrow y Madrid, y permite a Iberia, British Airways y
American Airlines llevar a cabo un seguimiento en tiempo real de sus
pasajeros de conexión. De esta forma si un cliente de AIR NOSTRUM
estuviese en riesgo de perder un enlace con American Airlines en la T4,
recibiría una tarjeta de embarque prioritaria. Si, a pesar de ello perdiese
la conexión, sería protegido inmediatamente en el siguiente vuelo.
Somos regionales porque somos globales. La unión hace la fuerza y
estamos trabajando para ganarnos el futuro junto a los mejores
socios. Lo hacemos con la certeza que nos dan los miles de pasajeros
que vuelan en AIR NOSTRUM cada día; con la energía que
nos proporciona contar con su apoyo. Sólo me resta agradecerles
la confianza que han depositado en nosotros a lo largo de este
año, al tiempo que les brindo mis más sinceras disculpas por
todo aquello en lo que hayamos podido fallarles. Que pasen
muy buenos momentos esta Navidad.

Dear Passengers:
arket globalisation has, undoubtedly, meant a more frequent increase
in working agreements. Although, the majority of these agreements
reflect a true will to work in a coordinated way creating synergies, others
seem to be based more on image, rather than on true synergic interest. These
are generally draft agreements which, our intuition tells us, seem to be totally
lacking in content. We even ask ourselves whether there is actually anything
real behind that huge headline we have just seen.
Iberia signed, last October, a very important business contract with
American Airlines and British Airways designed to stimulate air traffic in
the Northern Atlantic area. The result of this agreement is a substantial
improvement in the connectivity between Europe and the North American
Free Trade Agreement countries: Canada, USA and Mexico. The difference
between the rhetorical collaboration agreements mentioned previously and
the agreement mentioned herewith are the verbal tenses used. Whilst,
rhetorical agreements use the future tense - we will do - without ever
getting to the present indicative, the recent joint operation agreement
signed by Iberia has not only been implemented in record time, but is, at
present, proving to be of great value to AIR NOSTRUM passengers, in the
here and now.
Let me give you an example. If a doctor from Austin (Texas) is thinking of
attending a congress in the Spanish city of Leon, all he has to do is to
book a seat on American Airlines Flight no. AA684 from his local airport
to the JFK Airport in New York where he will be able to connect with Flight
no. AA152 to Barcelona. From Barcelona he will connect with Flight no.
AA5338 to his final destination, the city of Leon. From a reservation point
of view, somebody might think to themselves, “How come American Airlines
is operating a domestic flight between Barcelona and Leon? The answer is,
of course, that Flight no. AA5338 is actually Flight no. IB8758 operated by
AIR NOSTRUM. As far as the powerful commercial apparatus of American
Airlines is concerned, however, this flight is considered an American Airlines
flight. In other words, even though passengers are informed, when issued
with their airline tickets and boarding passes, that the final flight will be
operated by an associated airline; the journey is sold under the American
Airlines (AA) trademark.
The above-mentioned benefits would not be complete if we did not
mention the Oneworld Transfer Center recently inaugurated in the Madrid
Barajas Airport. At present, this service only exists in the Chicago-O’Hare,
Miami, New York-JFK, London-Heathrow and Barajas-Madrid airports. It
permits Iberia, British Airways and American Airlines to track, in real
time, its connecting passengers. This means that if an AIR NOSTRUM
passenger was in danger of missing a connecting flight with American
Airlines in the Barajas Airport Terminal 4, he or she would be issued with
a priority boarding pass. If, in spite of this, they missed their connection,
they would be offered a seat on the following available flight.
We are not only regional, but also global. There is strength in numbers
and we are working, along with our associates, towards a brighter
future. Our confidence is based on the thousands of passengers that
fly with us every day, and the energy their constant support gives
