Message to All Brothers of the Province
DEAR BROTHERS,
I hope that you are fine in your respective
communities; some of them are still in process
of restructuration after the different vicarial
Chapters and Assemblies. I want to get in touch
with all of you to give thanks together to the
Lord for all that he is giving us day by day, and
I wish to share with you the good news of the
appointment of Fr. Miguel Olaortua Laspra, as
new bishop of the Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos.
The Holy Father, Benedict XVI has entrusted
again to the Province of Philippines the
commitment received more than a century ago
to take care of the Christian communities
which integrate the said Apostolic Vicariate,
appointing an Augustinian brother as Pastor.
At the same time that we enjoy by the
appointment of the new bishop, I want to give
thanks to the Lord together with all the
brothers of the Province by the apostolic work
carried out by Mons. Julian García Centeno, the
resigning bishop, during the time that he has
attended to the same Christian communities
and the disinterested dedication of all
Augustinian brothers that they continue
devoting their lives to the service of the Gospel
in mission lands. We give thanks to God for
their commitment.
I take this opportunity to communicate to you
that the Episcopal consecration of Fr. Miguel
Olaortua will take place in our Church of Saint
Joseph of Bilbao, on 16 th April 2011 at 17:00.
The ceremony will be presided by Mons Ricardo
Blázquez, the current Archbishop of Valladolid,
who will be the main celebrant. Until now they
have already communicated their assistance
Mons. Renzo Fratini, papal Nuncio in Spain,
Mons. Julián García Centeno OSA, Mons. Mario
Iceta Gavicagogeascoa and the Prior General
OSA, Fr. Robert F. Prevost.
From now, I invite all of you to continue
praying to the Lord may he give his grace and
blessings to the new Bishop and some of us
could also accompany Fr. Miguel Olaortua in
the aforementioned celebration.
May the Mother of Good Council continue
always being mediator before the Father for the
new Augustinian Bishop of the Apostolic
Vicariate of Iquitos.
