THE DAYS OF A MUSEUMThe necessary renovation of the Centro Integrado de Cultura(Cultural Center Complex) has made the reopening of its facilitiesfor public visitation a gradual process. The Oficinas de Arte(Art Workshops) have been restored for the resumption of theireducational activities, and now the Museu de Arte de SantaCatarina (Santa Catarina Art Museum) reopens its doors withan event that reassures its importance in the Brazilian culturalscene.In fact, the curatorial principle is itself a significant mark. Theevent involves two simultaneous and parallel exhibitions. Oneof them approaches the museum’s historiography and the other,as a didactic counterpoint, provides a genealogy of artworkspertaining to its technical reserve, i.e., its collection. Providingvisual and written information means presenting the entirebody of its actions and, as a result, integrating art and society.One can observe, in the history of MASC and in the formation ofits collection, that the museum has adapted itself to conceptualchanges in the arts and, in recent years, has also become an institutionwhich encourages and sponsors the creativity of newgenerations.Therefore, MASC fulfills its contemporaneity role and representsthe cultural aspirations of the State, which, according to OscarWilde, “is to make what is useful”, while “the individual is tomake what is beautiful”.These are the days of MASC, these are the days of art.LOS DIAS DE UM MUSEOCon la necesária reforma del Centro Integrado de Cultura, la reaperturade los espacios destinados al público ha sido gradual.Las Oficinas de Arte ya fueron devueltas a sus funciones educativasy ahora, el Museo de Arte de Santa Catarina, que abrelas puertas con un evento que reafirma su importancia en elpanorama cultural brasileño.Prueba de ésto, es el principio curatorial de reapertura que albergados exposiciones paralelas y concomitantes con la historiografiadel Museo que tiene, en contrapunto didáctico, unagenealogia de las obras que integran la reserva técnica, o sea, elacervo.
