US$799cancellation policy appliesPost-conferencefield trip Thursday 5 September <strong>2013</strong>Post-conference field trip to the Panama Canal ExpansionObservation Center in Gatun, Colon - Atlantic side.Departure from <strong>and</strong> to the Dann Carlton Hotel, Barranquilla,Colombia will be at approximately 05:00 <strong>and</strong> 18:30 respectively.The visit to the Panama Canal Expansion Observation Center in Gatun, Colon, will allowdelegates to observe the construction of the new set of locks on the Atlantic entrance from avery close distance while learning first-h<strong>and</strong> about the various operations of the PanamaCanal, the history of its construction, its participation in the world markets, <strong>and</strong> theimportance of its watershed.At an investment of $ 5.25 billion, the goal of the works that began on September 3, 2007, isto build two sets of locks – one on the Pacific entrance <strong>and</strong> the other on the Caribbean Sea, toenable the transit of Post-Panamax vessels. A new channel to link the Third Set of Locks onthe Pacific side with Culebra Cut, the waterway’s narrowest section, is also being excavated,<strong>and</strong> dredging activities are being conducted to widen <strong>and</strong> deepen the Canal’s Pacific <strong>and</strong>Atlantic entrances as well as Gatun Lake <strong>and</strong> Culebra Cut.NB – Field trip subject to a minimum <strong>and</strong> a maximum number of participants.
