SALUDOS ANIVERSARIO DIRECTORIO, 13 AÑOS ACERA….
Alfredo Solar
Presidente ( Sunedison )
Carlos Finat
Director Ejecutivo ( ACERA )
Marta Alonso
Directora ( Global Energy Services - GES )
EDITORIAL ANIVERSARIO
SALUDOS ANIVERSARIO DIRECTORIO, 13 AÑOS ACERA….
Rodrigo García
Director ( First Solar )
Paola Hartung
Directora ( Enel Green Power )
ACERA debe ayudarnos
a liderar este cambio”.
NOTICIAS

GREETING OF ACERA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS, 13 YEARS OLD...
Alfredo Solar
President ( Sunedison )
Carlos Finat
Executive Director ( ACERA )
“A key sector for competitiveness and sustainability as the Non
Conventional Renewable Energy one, deserves a matching
association, capable of driving NCREs towards a fast and positive
development for everyone involved in its value chain. ACERA is
certainly the indicated to promote and disseminate clean energies,
in order to open space for them in a competitive and agile way. As
the President of the Association, I am very proud -as well as
everyone working here for a time- to see how in these 13 years, it
has grown and become an effective, reliable and leading voice, not
only in its tangible results such as NCRE generation, which already
reaches 11% of the matrix, but also in credibility and
trustworthiness as a sector. We hope that in the next years
ACERA’s work will continue being equally productive and that a
100% renewable Chile by 2050 becomes a reality”.
“By the end of 2012, ACERA’s Board of Directors invited me to take
part in the Project of a 2.0 ACERA. The challenge appeared to be
very interesting, with the mission to promote NCRE in such a way to
obtain a more competitive and sustainable power matrix for the
country, at a time when NCRE were subject to countless
misconceptions which were closing the market for them. Now,
working in ACERA, I am glad I accepted the invitation, and very
proud of having been part of the process that changed the Chilean
energy scenario in a few years. Before coming to ACERA I was not
aware of the drive with which this sector works. On balance, I am
impressed on how much a small association can achieve just with
dedication and commitment. On this anniversary, I would like to
reinforce the importance of the association as the official voice of the
NCRE sector, and point out that it is -and will be- a key actor for a
100% renewable matrix in Chile by 2050”.
José Ignacio Escobar
Vicepresident ( Acciona Energía )
“In these 13 years of ACERA, we are proud of being major agents in the transformation of our energy matrix,
leading the transition in Latin America towards long-term sustainability. Renewable Energies have become the
main source of investment, job and social development, and we are very proud of the thorough work performed by
the ACERA team in supporting its member companies to implement their plans in Chile. We look forward to keep
growing and contributing so that the NCRE sector becomes the main source of electricity in Chile by 2050”.
Marta Alonso
Directora ( Global Energy Services - GES )
“ACERA will be recognized as an example to the world for its contribution to the NCRE industry’s development in
Chile. It is and will be an example of institutional collaboration, allowing the existence of more sustainable economic
activities, at more efficient prices, and will continue providing investors and customers with the confidence
they need to make Chile a cleaner and more liveable country. It has been 13 years, contributing to the reduction of
our carbon emissions and to a prosperity that has no turning back”.
Daniel Canales
Director ( Mainstream RP )
“It is a privilege for the energy industry to have an organization like ACERA, given its relevant role in the development
and strengthening of NCRE in Chile. The industry has experienced a huge progress, with an important
number of projects which – if they come into operation- might drive significantly the investment and economic
growth of the country; yet, it still faces great opportunities and challenges. Congratulations to ACERA for this new
anniversary and we hope it will continue promoting the development of clean and sustainable energy, so that it
becomes the most important pillar of our matrix by 2050”.
ANNIVERSARY EDITORIAL
GREETING OF ACERA’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS, 13 YEARS OLD...
Rodrigo García
Director ( First Solar )
“ACERA is the main national reference within the renewable energy sector. It is the meeting place for the different
actors of the market, and the industry representative with the highest influence in public decisions concerning the
power sector. On its 13th anniversary, we wish to express that we are very proud of being members of ACERA,
and highlight that we are in a solid position to face important challenges in the consolidation of the renewable
energy industry in Chile… Happy Birthday ACERA!”
Paola Hartung
Director ( Enel Green Power )
“ACERA has accomplished very successfully its mission of promoting NCREs in Chile. I am sure it will continue
supporting all the necessary changes -technical and regulatory- to achieve the renewable energy goals by 2050. I
have witnessed how ACERA has become a reference and an example to follow for the Southern Cone countries
which have started the path of energy matrix diversification. Congratulations for these 13 years, and let us continue
contributing positively to stop the progress of climate change through clean energies”.
Mario Manríquez
Director Secretary ( Mantex )
“As one of the founding members of ACERA, it is an enormous satisfaction to see the results of the Association
over these 13 years, by achieving the development of NCRE in Chile to the extent that it is at present the most
dynamic sector in our economy. I would also like to send my regards and recognition to ACERA’s professional
team, which, thanks to their performance and commitment have been able to place it as a key reference in the
energy sector, recognized by Government authorities and by national and foreign professional associations”.
Clemente Pérez
Director ( Guerrero Olivos )
“A special greeting for all who are part of this association, which, due to its enthusiasm, represents one of the most
successful cases of renewable energy growth in the whole world. Chile is internationally recognized as one of the
countries with the highest investment in NCRE, more than in infrastructure or mining, for the first time in our history.
And the best part is that it is achieved with no direct subsidies from the Government, but thanks to the natural
conditions, good public policies and the huge work of all of those who get up every morning with the desire to
inject clean energy into our country and the world”.
Rodrigo Saez
Treasurer Director ( EnorChile )
“ACERA has been crucial for all of its associates. We have worked together in the change processes before the
different authorities for the renewable insertion. Laws, technical standards and regulations have been adapted.
However, ACERA still has an important task: lead the new wave of changes. The future is promising, since the
change from hydrocarbons to clean energy will bring a new wave of demand, modifying business models and
increasing the competition for renewable energy supply”.
NEWS
13 YEARS SINCE ACERA’S CREATION
With joy and pride, last July 11th, ACERA celebrated its 13th anniversary, with a fully
consolidated NCRE sector in Chile. But this scenario was not always so promising.
The Association was born in 2003 thanks to the initiative of a group of Non
Conventional Renewable Energy entrepreneurs – a very small group at that moment
and now the Founding Members- who were trying to position these technologies in the
market. At the beginning, the Association was formed mainly by mini-hydro small
companies. Over the years, ACERA has included companies of all NCRE technologies
and across the sector’s value chain, from product and service suppliers to major power
generators.
ACERA is a small association doing big things. The boom of NCREs over the last few
years has been the result of the great effort of all who make up ACERA: the Board of
Directors, headed by its President Alfredo Solar, its member companies, and its
permanent team, which is always looking for the best opportunities to promote the
NCREs.
Happy Anniversary ACERA! Go on with the same vigor to achieve a 100% renewable
Chile.
ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION LAW: A KEY REGULATION FOR THE NCRE SECTOR
One of the most eagerly awaited laws for the NCRE sector was enacted in July: the Electric Transmission Law. The
regulation, sponsored by the Ministry of Energy and supported from the beginning by ACERA, establishes a new
Transmission System and creates a coordinating entity independent from the National Electric System. It is based on
international practices and experiences seeking to improve the system’s planning, expansion, rating and operation, and
delivering, at the same time, a greater responsibility to the State as guarantor of the common good. As noted by Carlos
Finat, Executive Director of ACERA, “We have been waiting for this regulation for a long time. First, because the timely
expansion of the system will provide a better energy distribution, allowing the arrival of the clean energy generated
mainly in the northern extreme of the country, to different zones in Chile. On the other hand, we believe that the creation
of the new national operator is very important to ensure the transparency, independence and technical suitability of
future challenges imposed by the electric system operation.

In last July 27, a total of 84 bids was submitted in the
tenders for supply to regulated customers, a figure
exceeding significantly last year’s, when 38 proposals were
presented. This amount is a record for Chile and Latin
America. Sixty-four of the offers are of NCRE nature, and
twenty are conventional or hybrid conventional-NCRE
projects. This is the biggest tender ever carried out in Chile
and the projects presented indicate a highly competitive
process, so the prices to be expected should be equally
competitive. The information contained in the economic
bids will pass into the public domain on August 16, and the
awarding will take place on the 17th of the same month.
