■ Así sea que te despiertes fresco en un bonito día sin nada especial que hacer, o súper crudo pero sin ganas
de estar encerrado, la excursión en el Turibús es algo nuevo para probar.
¡Es muy fácil! Tómalo en cualquiera de las 24 paradas designadas de la ruta, toma un par de audífonos
y relájate escuchando el bizarro soundtrack mientras el Turibús hace lo suyo. De ahí en adelante, puedes bajar
en cualquiera de las paradas, explorar los alrededores por tu cuenta y volverte a subir al siguiente que pase
(cada 30-40 minutos) o no mover un dedo durante todo el recorrido (aprox. 3 horas).
Nosotros lo hicimos y la pasamos increíble, además vimos algunos lugares que de otra forma no hubiéramos
visto (al menos el mismo día). De vez en cuando no está tan mal pasar por turista en tu propio territorio, incluso
si te tienes que sentar junto a la familia de ñoños insolados con trencitas acapulqueñas.
■ PARADA #5 – CENTRO DE CULTURA CASA LAMM
Qué bueno que haya un gimnasio al lado de La Bella Italia
porque no hay nada light en sus fresas con crema,
la especialidad de la casa. Si prefieres alimentar el intelecto,
ve a Casa Lamm o a cualquiera de las librerías de viejo
de los alrededores.
■ TURIBUS STOP #5 – CENTRO DE CULTURA CASA LAMM
It’s a good thing there’s a gym next door to La Bella Italia,
because they don’t go light on the cream in their “fresas con
crema”. If you prefer to feed your brain, head over to Casa
Lamm, or any of the neighboring vintage bookstores.
■ PARADA #10 – PLAZA MANUEL TOLSA
Bájate aquí y caminando hasta Hidalgo y Lázaro Cárdenas
encontrarás uno de los más tristes aunque prometedores mercados
de pulgas. Guarda la cámara en tu mochila o quizá
la encuentres a la venta ahí mismo la próxima semana.
■ TURIBUS STOP #10 – PLAZA MANUEL TOLSA
Pop off here and walk to Hidalgo and Lázaro Cardenas for
a sad, yet potentially bountiful flea market. Keep your camera
in your bag though, or you might have to buy it back
the next week.

■ PARADA #7 – REFORMA. GLORIETA COLÓN
Camina hacia el norte hasta los Tacos el Caminero, checa
su increíble decoración y prueba unos tacos deliciosos.
Después, visita el Hotel Casa Blanca antes de que reemplacen
el mobiliario original por una tragedia dosmilera.
■ TURIBUS STOP #7 - REFORMA – GLORIETA COLON
Walk north to Tacos el Caminero to check out their cool
original décor and decent tacos. Next, you must pay a visit
to Hotel Casa Blanca before they completely convert
the original furnishings to a Y2K tragedy.
■ PARADA #13 – MONUMENTO A LA REVOLUCIÓN
Si pasas por aquí de día, ni te bajes, pero si eres soltero
o de mente abierta y pasas por aquí un sábado en la noche,
bájate y quédate en un bar “swinger” de “buen ambiente”, lado
poniente de la Plaza de la República.
■ TURIBUS STOP #13 – MONUMENTO A LA REVOLUCIÓN
If you’re here in the daytime, stay on board, but if you’re single
(or open minded) and here on a Saturday night, get off and
stay off for a “swinger” event with “good ambience”, East side
of Plaza de la República.

■ Whether you’re up bright and early on a beautiful day with nothing to do, or you have a massive hangover
but don’t want to be inside your claustrophobic apartment, the Turibus excursion is something new to try.
It’s so easy! Board at any of the 24 designated citywide bus stops, get a free pair of crappy headphones and
relax to the bizarro soundtrack as the bus does it’s thing. From then on, you can exit the bus at any of its stops,
explore the vicinity on your own, and re-board the next Turibus that comes along (every 30-40 minutes), or just
stay on from start to finish (about 3hrs) and don’t lift a finger.
We took the tour and had a blast, plus saw some little corners of DF that we normally wouldn’t have checked
out (at least not all in one day). Sometimes it’s nice to be a tourist in your own backyard, even if you have
to sit next to the pasty family with sunburns and Acapulco braids.
■ PARADA #8 – HEMICICLO A JUÁREZ
Date una vuelta por la Alameda, sube al asta bandera
de los tres puños, acaricia a los caballos policía, haz un poco
de observación de rucos y disfruta una botana italiana
(nos han dicho que la pizza es deliciosa) en el Café Trevi,
Colón y Dr. Mora.
■ TURIBUS STOP #8 - HEMICICLO A JUÁREZ
Take a stroll in Parque Alameda, climb the fist statue, pet
the horsey cops, do some old man-watching, and enjoy
an Italian snack (we hear the pizza is delicious) at Café Trevi,
Colón and Dr. Mora.
■ PARADA #17 – MUSEO DE ANTROPOLOGÍA
Nos saltamos el museo y fuimos directamente al lago
de Chapultepec (del otro lado de Reforma) a practicar deportes
acuáticos extremos. Bueno, de hecho eran lanchitas de pedales
y llevábamos salvavidas, pero pudo haber sido peligroso.
■ TURIBUS STOP #17 – MUSEO DE ANTROPOLOGÍA
We skipped the museum and headed straight for Lago
Chapultepec (just across Reforma) for some extreme water
sports. Well, they were actually paddleboats and we wore
life vests, but it could have been dangerous.

de Guatemala a espaldas de la Catedral.
■ TURIBUS STOP #9 – ZÓCALO
This stop is the perfect opportunity to check out the Francis
Alys exhibit (featured on page 18) at Antiguo Colegio de San
Ildefonso. Afterwards, have a caguama at Pasaje Maurel
Hostel on Rep. de Guatamala, right behind the Cathedral.
