« Lasteyrie’s first press was founded with the encouragement of the Comte de Cazes at the Ministry of
the Interior, where it was used mainly for the reproduction of circulars and similar routine work connected
with the administration. The first production was something of a prestige publication—the Lettres
autographes et inédites de Henri IV (n. d.), a series of ten lithographed facsimiles with a crayon portrait
of the King by Gérard in a rather debased form of the familiar eighteenth-century engraved oval. »
