Crayon d’après Demarne. 258-256 x 126-122 [303 x 473]. Les deux sujets tirés
sur un même feuillet, d’une seule et même pierre.
Épreuve sur vélin mince crème. Empoussiérage, salissures légères, petite épidermure au recto, pli
souple diagonal, plusieurs courtes déchirures et plis cassés dans les grandes marges non ébarbées.

« From 1815 until his death in 1835, Gros conducted the atelier of the exiled David. It was during this
period, in 1817, that he made his only two lithographs. His painterly approach to the stone was an early
indication of the potential of lithography. Gros exerted considerably more influence upon the development
of lithography in an indirect manner, for many of the finest French lithographers–Raffet, Charlet, Huet,
Barye, Sheffer, Lami and Bonington–were pupils of his atelier. » (Early Lithography, Providence, Brown
