WESTMINSTER ACADEMYATTENDANCE/PASTORAL TECHNICIANJOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLEJOBPURPOSEAttendance/Pastoral TechnicianThe Attendance/Pastoral Technician is responsible for theattendance and punctuality of students and all data relatingto inclusion i.e. pastoral, SEN, interventions and behaviour.To work with the Director of Inclusion, Pastoral SupportWorkers, Data and Exam Technicians and the SIMSOperations Manager to ensure that registers are accurate,complete and recorded for each registration period eachday, creating an accurate picture of whole schoolattendance and punctuality that is monitored and takeappropriate action taken where necessary to improve it.To work with the Director of Inclusion, Pastoral SupportWorkers, Data and Exam Technicians and the SIMSOperations Manager to ensure attendance for all studentsis on target, liaising with the Education Welfare Officer andparents to remove barriers to attendance.To work with the Director of Inclusion, Pastoral SupportWorkers, Data and Exam Technicians and the SIMSOperations Manager to ensure that all data relating toinclusion i.e. pastoral, SEN, behaviour and interventions isaccurate and updated daily.GRADERESPONSIBLETOSIMS Operational ManagerKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:To contribute to the emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, moral, social andcultural development of students.To call home for any student late to school.To work with the Pastoral Support workers to reduce persistent absence,truancy and unauthorised holiday.To organise and administer late detentions.To remind staff to take any registers not taken.To monitor the attendance for each child in the school, ensuring it is anaccurate reflection of the attendance of a child.


WESTMINSTER ACADEMYATTENDANCE/PASTORAL TECHNICIANJOB DESCRIPTIONTo provide the SIMS Operations Manager with the attendance and inclusioninformation required for school CENSUS.To attend training in the procedures for taking registers in the Academy andthe software used.To train staff in the procedures for taking registers in the Academy and thesoftware used.To take registers at special events such as Parents’ Evenings, ProgressReview Days and Curriculum Evenings.To inform the data technicians of an errors in class lists or other inclusion data.To work with Pastoral Support Workers, Parents, Tutors and the EducationalWelfare Officer (EWO) to remove barriers to attendance.To monitor attendance to exams, calling home when students are absent forexaminationsTo support late or absent students’ learning through appropriate guidance,advice and strategies for individuals and small groups.To facilitate the provision of equal opportunities for all late or absent studentsnot withstanding differences of race, gender and educational need.To enable late or absent students to make successful transition from primaryto secondary school.To maintain and check registers of students and any other inclusion data.To set individual attendance targets for late/absent students and advise theleadership team on setting institutional targets.To liaise with the EWO and make referrals as directed.To contribute to the overall planning, presentation and maintenance of a safe,stimulating learning environment, indoors and outdoors.To assist with the supervision of students on their arrival, especially inmonitoring “lates” and taking messages from parents re absence.To link with home through parental reviews and home-school visits forlate/absent students where appropriate.To increase parents’ involvement in students’ learning and awareness ofstudents’ needs if students are late/absent.


WESTMINSTER ACADEMYATTENDANCE/PASTORAL TECHNICIANJOB DESCRIPTIONTo work with individuals and groups of students as directed.To record observations on students’ attendance , punctuality and welfare; tokeep students’ inclusion files and data up-to-date.To keep personal tutors informed of absence, keep records of medicalappointments, letters re absence from home and leave applications; to liaisewith parents as necessary on attendance and welfare issues, includingauthorising the return home of students for medical or other reasons.To attend meetings of the attendance panel, record lates and organisedetentions and other sanctions.To attend staff meetings and in-service training, as appropriate.To be involved in the wider life of the Academy.To contribute to students’ learning plans, targets, individual learning plans,pastoral support plans, monitoring and records.To contribute to the compilation and updating of students’ individual learningplans, action plans and targets.To communicate relevant information to teaching staff and parents, asnecessary.To liaise with social workers and other outside agencies, as directed by themulti-agency team, in order to keep inclusion records up-to-date.To support students and families with financial, emotional or behaviouralproblems and liaise with other agencies to meet their needs – to help to linkeducation, home, social care, therapy and medical services.To act as advocate/counsellor for students who seek help and support.To support students with emotional or behavioural problems, and help developtheir social skills.To accompany students to visits, appointments and interviews as necessary.Be proactive in matters relating to child protection and health and safety.To be a positive role model for students in dress and conduct within theAcademy
