As the emphasis on wellness and

healthy living continues, there

are more and more opportunities

available in Nevada County to help us along

the path. They range from community

programs to town parks and recreation

departments to fitness centers, health clubs

and the availability of locally grown food.

Keeping Fit

FIT CULTURE STUDIO: 75 Bost Ave.,

Nevada City, off Searls Avenue. Services include

personal and small group training sessions,

coaching programs such as nutrition, fitnes

classes, indoor cycle classes, mat pilates, as well

as youth and adult athletic performance and

SOUTH YUBA CLUB: 130 West Berryhill

Dr., Grass Valley: A place for workouts

and socializing. Over 100 classes a week.

Available are yoga/pilates, group exercise,

senior classes, indoor cycling and personal

training. Facility has a saltwater pool, tennis

TRAINING ZONE: Pine Creek Shopping

Center, Grass Valley. This Gym/Physical

Get Moving Training Program

Fitness Center is located in a remodeled,

redesigned 14,000 square foot space. A

place for all ages and fitness levels, it o fers

group exercise classes, personal and small

group training, Fitness Bootcamps and

Get Up and Go

Each spring for the past several years 200

to 250 people show up for Get Moving, a

free, 10-week community training program

designed for everyone from beginner

walkers to advanced runners.

Held once a week at Nevada Union High

School’s track located off Ridge Road in

Grass Valley, it can provide a safe place to

start and find your level of comfort. The e

are four groups–walkers, walk/runners,

runners and trail runners. Each has a coach.

Participants also learn about other programs

that will impact their health and wellness.

Sponsored by Trkac Running Store, Sierra

TrailBlazers and Gilligan’s Hillagains, the

annual event is held in the evening.

Race Training

An option for those serious about running

is a 5K, 10K, Half and Trail Half Marathon

program designed to train for specific races.

Sponsored by Trkac Running Store, sessions

are held three times a year with one set for

August. They include track work and long

runs two days a week for approximately 10

Recreation

BEAR RIVER RECREATION & PARK

DISTRICT: Serving South Nevada County

since 1995, it offers programs such as adult

basketball, as well as a variety of activities

for youth. brrpd.org

TRUCKEE DONNER RECREATION

& PARKS DEPARTMENT: An extensive

program of activities is offered at its 40,000

square foot Recreation Center (See Page

46). Included are Jazzercise, yoga, personal

training and adult aquatics such as water

polo and scuba certification. ou can

A community market that emphasizes

foods that are nutritious, minimally

processed, organically grown, free of

artificial additives, and if possible, locally

grown. They also have a wellness section.

To inspire healthier choices, BriarParch has

natural health, and herb and supplement

guides, as well as information about first ai
