TheYuba is a treasure, with clean,free-flowing water and massivegranite “sunning” boulders whichshape the pools and swimmingholes along its course. This riverstays beautiful and healthy not bychance, but rather by the hardwork and ongoing commitment ofpeople who love it: (yubariver.org).Here are a few Yuba ideas.BRIDGEPORT: This is the home of SouthYuba State Park and our very famous coveredbridge. Not only does it feature theshortest walk from the parking area to thefirst swim spots, the adventurous can headup or down stream to explore. Upstreamin particular is a trail that features docentguidedwildflower walks in the spring andthe opportunity to stretch your legs untilyou find “your” spot.EDWARDS CROSSING: This area has a narrowand uneven trail but it also offers someof the best and most private swimming theFloating on the South YubaYuba has to offer. There is a spot where aseasonal creek makes a waterfall next to theriver and Edwards Crossing is famous for itsspring and summer ladybug explosion!FORTY-NINER BRIDGE: Don’t let the sight ofall the people frolicking under the bridgefool you, it’s a pretty tough climb down atthis spot for anyone with clambering limitations.But it is a dandy swim and it’s tantalizinglyclose on a hot day. You are likely toneed to be in a social mood most days atthis spot.HOYT’S CROSSING: Hoyt’s is a thirty-minutewalk upstream from Forty-Niner, with plentyof other good holes along the way,although they often have tough climbs. Thisarea is a hotbed of summer activity for teensand young adults in the summertime andthe rocks and swims are gorgeous.PURDON CROSSING: This stretch of the riverhas the easiest trail. Either upstream ordownstream, the area is wide and mostlyflat, offers a mix of slow and swift river,crystalline pools, beautifully sculpted graniteand inviting beaches. It makes a goodintroduction to the Yuba, especially if youhave children.JONES BAR: From the Independence Trailparking area six miles north of Nevada Cityon Highway 49 hike west on the trail for .2ROLLINS LAKE: Located in Chicago Park,outside Grass Valley, Rollins features camping,fishing and a lake with a surface areaof nine hundred acres for your swimmingstylings, plus twenty-six miles of shorelinefor you to rest on the beach afterward.There are also three full-service marinas ifyou enjoy a good boat.SCOTTS FLAT LAKE: Located at an elevationjust over 3,000 feet, Scotts Flat Lake outsideNevada City is a beautiful spot, surroundedby pines and eagerly awaiting your family’sversion of synchronized swimming.
