B.7 Gender of adjectives<br />

You may have noticed in some of the earlier exercises that adjectives<br />

following the verb être do not all have the same form. In fact, an adjective<br />

needs to match the number (singular or plural) and gender<br />

(masculine or feminine) of the person or object it is describing. This<br />

is a very important concept in French called agreement. Agreement<br />

means that two words that go together grammatically have<br />

matching forms – a masculine noun goes with a masculine adjective,<br />

the pronoun je goes with the je form of the verb, etc.<br />
