Thegenerous contribution ofRM50,000 was officiallyhanded over by KPMGMalaysia’s Partner In-Chargeof Audit, Mr Peter Ho to ourManaging Director Dato’Azhar Abdul Hamid at asmall ceremony at KualaLumpur Hilton on September17, 2009.KPMG’s contribution wouldgo towards partly fundingthe construction of a 60-meter geo-tubes and gabionstructure which is very vitalin the mangrove replantingprocess. This hard structureacts as a wave breaker toshield seedlings from beingwashed away by wavesduring high tide. Thestructure also acts as mudand sand trap that will assistin stabilising the ground inpreparation for mangroveseedlings cultivation. The collaborative projectwas indirectly mooted inMay 2009 when the KPMG’scorporate affairs teamapproached Sime DarbyPlantation CorporateCommunications to discussthe possibility ofcollaborating in CSRprojects. It was also duringthe discussion that KPMGwas informed of ourmangrove replantingproject. The discussionculminated in the planting of300 forest trees on CareyIsland by 80 KPMG staff onAugust 1. After the treeplanting project at CareyIsland, KPMG confirmedtheir willingness toparticipate in our mangrovereplanting project andagreed to contributeRM50,000 for the project.“This is indeed a very rareoccasion for Sime DarbyPlantation or for Sime DarbyGroup for that matter, toreceive monetarycontribution from anothercorporate body, whichvoluntarily approached us tocollaborate in our CSRproject. Most of the time itis the reverse; the publicwould approach us to fundtheir projects or invite us tocollaborate with them in9.Seedlink July - October, 2009
