la cucina
Il blocco cucina è stato
realizzato in muratura e
rivestito con vecchie graniglie
restaurate. Le graniglie sono posate
come fossero un morbido
tappeto appoggiato sulla parete
e sul piano. In basso
la piscina al tramonto. /
The kitchen the kitchen
block was made of brick
and lined with restored old
'graniglie' marble grit tiles.
the marble grit tiles are laid
as if they were a soft carpet
resting on the walls and top.
below: the swimming pool
at sunset.
volumes unchanged, transforming internally what was once a farmhouse into
a comfortable home, in which grandparents, parents and children can all live
together, designed therefore not only for summer holidays, but also as a possible
place for future living. The new large openings allow the landscape to enter into
the architecture, creating a space of light, a space in which
the “outside” becomes “inside”, a space in which the hills become
an integral part of the house itself. A shifting space,
which changes with the progression of the seasons, with the
growth of sunflowers, wheat, olives and other crops in the
surroundings. The house has been restored with traditional
local materials and recovered fittings: old coloured cement
tiles to create lively “patchwork walls” in bathrooms and in
the kitchen, washbasins in stone or marble, flat brick tiles
for the wide staircase, the sills, the terrace and the swimming
pool. All this combined with floors featuring large chestnut
boards planed by hand and a cement resin specifically
developed and created by Mapei for this project. Great attention
has also been paid to details such as the iron shutters
with laser-cut designs, to the doors and windows, to the
entrance gate and to the night lighting of both the interior
and the exterior. There are in fact numerous scenarios and light combinations
that also by night can bring out the “full” and “empty” spaces, the water in the
swimming pool and the garden and vegetable garden of Casale Villa Maria,
which takes its name from an old people's home that was situated in the area.
