obligation to hand down, through
the generations, an awareness of
the friulano identity. In order to be
effective, this undertaking must
use proper tools to engagé the
youth of today - as they are - taking
into consideration the various
contexts surrounding them.
Born far from Friuli, children
and grandchildren of the emigrants,
confronted with the globalization
challenge, these citizens
of the world, with a Friulano origin,
risk to Iosa themselves in the
ocean of cultural homogenization
that does not render contemporary
men and women equal in
their rights but rather restricted to

Various experts of the social
Sciences are concerned; on one
hand with the warning of the dangers
of this downward tendency
for personal and communal development
in a modem society
and on the other hand; the insistence
of the valorization of diversity,
also cultural - the inherent
pillars of democracy.
Thanks to the assistance of the
regional structure for the problems
of emigrants, in 1998, we are
able to present "two supplements"
dedicated to topical
themes of current affairs of interest
for the friulano community in
the world. The first is concentrated
