La guida comprende 8 itinerari
mototuristici “base” che possono
diventare infiniti grazie alle
numerose deviazioni consigliate,
e più o meno lunghi con la
possibilità che ogni itinerario si
colleghi agli altri.
E’ organizzata in modo che
ognuno possa costruirsi il proprio
itinerario. Vengono specificati il
punto di partenza e di arrivo che
sono ovviamente indicativi,
la via più veloce per percorrere
l’itinerario e - ciò che noi
preferiamo! - le strade alternative.
Dopo la spiegazione del percorso
trovi alcune brevi informazioni
sulle cose da vedere nei luoghi
attraversati inclusi musei e parchi
naturali; uno schema del percorso
dell’itinerario con la strada
principale, quelle alternative e i
punti di raccordo con gli itinerari
vicini; le strutture ricettive come
hotel, campeggi, agriturismi e
bed and breakfast.
Alcune curiosità e foto
completano il tutto.
I luoghi che ti suggeriamo in
questa guida non sono le mete
solitamente consigliate a chi
viene in Italia.
Troverete infatti piccoli paesini
e castelli che pochi conoscono,
borghi la cui bellezza non sta nel
monumento famoso ma nelle
antiche case in pietra, nella
semplicità della gente.
Un paesaggio insomma meno
appariscente ma più vero, da
gustare senza fretta.

motor-tourist routes that can
become many more, thanks to
the possibility of joining one to
another, making your trip longer
or shorter as you wish.
In other words they are made so
that you can create your own
trip.
We have suggested starting and
finishing points for the quickest
road from each place and also
(as we like best) using by-ways.
After the route plan directions
you will find information about
what is to be seen along the way,
such as museums and nature
parks, then a route plan showing
the main roads, the by-lanes, and
the junctions with the other
routes, places to stay for
example hotels, camping-sites,
farmhouse accommodation and
bed & breakfast.
A few curiosities, here and there
a photo, complete this
guidebook.
The places we talk about here
are not the hyper-tourist
destinations that are usually
recommended to those who
come to Italy. In fact you will
often find tiny hamlets, little
known castles and villages that
owe their beauty not to famous
monuments but to the antique
stone houses and the simplicity
of the people.

Der Führer umfasst 8 touristische
„Basisrouten" für Motorräder;
durch die vielen vorgeschlagenen
Abzweigungen werden es jedoch
unzählige Routen, mehr oder
weniger lang - mit der Möglichkeit,
die Routen untereinander zu
verbinden. Jeder kann sich selbst
seine Route zusammenstellen.
Die Abfahrts - und Ankunftspunkte
werden vorgegeben, ausserdem
auch der schnellste Weg, die
Route abzufahren und - was wir
vorziehen - Alternativwege.
Nach den Erklärungen der Strecke
findest du einige kurze
Informationen über
Sehenswürdigkeiten in den
durchfahrenen Orten -
einschließlich der Museen
und Naturparks; einen Plan
des Streckenverlaufs mit
der Hauptstraße, den
Alternativwegen und den
Verbindungen mit den nächsten
Routen.
Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten
wie Hotels, Campingplätze,
“Agriturismo” und Bed&Breakfast
liegen auch bei. Einige
Kuriositäten und Fotos
vervollständigen den Führer.
Die Ortschaften, die wir in diesem
Führer vorschlagen, sind nicht die
normalerweise angegebenen Ziele
für Touristen, die nach Italien
kommen. Ihr findet kleine Orte
und Burgen, die nur wenige
kennen. Kleine Ortschaften, deren
Schönheit nicht in berühmten
Denkmälern besteht, sondern in
den antiken Steinäusern und in
der Einfachheit der Bewohner. Kurz
gesagt, ein Landschaftsbild, das
zwar weniger auffallend ist, dafür
dem wirklichen Leben umso näher

Venendo da Modena lungo la
SP23 presso Ponte di Gombola
prima del Mulino di Gombola
nei pressi del piccolo ufficio
della posta c’è una deviazione a
sinistra in salita - via San Michele
- che porta a Serramazzoni
(indicazioni per Casa Storta -
Serramazzoni).
Passerai vicino al castello di
Pompeano. Proseguendo potrai
raggiungere Serramazzoni e
Pavullo. Lunghezza itinerario di
collegamento A: 10 km
La SS324 mette in collegamento
Passo delle Radici con
Pievepelago e Sestola (l’Abetone
è raggiungibile dopo un breve
tratto sulla SS12).
Proseguire fin oltre Lizzano in
Belvedere, offre la possibilità di
connettere tutti i tour. La distanza
da Piandelagotti a Pievepelago
è di 15 km; altrettanto dal Passo
delle Radici a Pievepelago.
Si può seguire la SP27 fino
all’innesto sulla SP4 passando
per Verica. Molto bello anche il
breve tratto (SP26) che passa
per Castagneto escludendo
Verica e congiungendosi alla SP4
anch’esso.
Oppure sempre da Pavullo
raggiungi Niviano (strade
comunali parallele alla SP27),
consigliata una visita alla Riserva
Naturalistica di Sassoguidano
per poi ricongiungersi alla SP4.

La SP30 ti porterà tra mille curve
a Sestola (50 km). Vicino a
Pavullo, lungo la SP30 c’è la
Pieve di Renno (X sec.), esempio
di pieve romanica.
Ti potrai collegare o direttamente
sulla SS623 passando per
Samone (10 km) o seguire
l’itinerario 4 svoltando per

raggiungere la SS623,
percorrendo comunque sempre
10 km.
Lungo la SS623 sono diverse le
deviazioni per Montese, tutte
belle e tutte portano nelle
vicinanze del caratteristico
borgo di Maserno di Montese.
Altrettanto facile dalla SP4: segui
i cartelli per Montese.

La SS324 mette in collegamento
il Passo delle Radici con Lizzano
in Belvedere, passando per
Pievepelago, Riolunato,
Montecreto, Sestola e Fanano
(da Pievepelago si può
raggiungere l’Abetone dopo un
breve tratto sulla SS12).
La SS324 offre così la possibilità
di connettere tutti i tour.
Da Zocca prendi prima la SP25
e poi la SP70 (20 km) per potersi
immettere nel tour 5 all’altezza
della SP27 anche chiamata
“Val Samoggia”.
La strada di collegamento è molto
bella e le curve non mancano.
Segui le indicazioni per Vergato.
Lungo il tragitto programma una
sosta a Rocca di Roffeno che
per la propria bellezza merita
una visita. (15 km)
Sono solo 16 km a dividere
Porretta (SS64) da Lizzano in
Belvedere (SS324).
Possono essere percorsi
attraversando Silla o seguendo
strade secondarie.
M Da Barga basta mantenere la
SS445 per raggiungere Borgo a
Mozzano. Un breve ma efficace
collegamento con il tour che
porta a Lucca (15 km).

Da Villa Basilica raggiungi
Pescia lungo la SP12.
Considera una sosta a Collodi,
paese natale dell’autore del
celebre Pinocchio, per
informazioni: tel. 0572.429342.
Da Pescia segui la SP3 fin a
Vellano (20 km).
Lucca e Pistoia sono in
collegamento tra loro tramite
strade veloci: l’autostrada
consente di percorrere i 45 km
che le separano in una
mezz’oretta. Non dimenticare
però l’eventualità di conoscere
queste zone produttrici di vino
ed olio. Ad esempio con una
sosta a Montecarlo…
P Lungo la SS12 venendo
dall'Abetone puoi prendere a
sinistra per Lizzano Pistoiese
lungo la SP18 (15 km).
Percorrila interamente
ricongiungendoti alla SS66.
Considera una sosta a Spignana
che ha una pieve medievale, a
S.Marcello Pistoiese, a Gavinana
e al suo centro storico in pietra
e, tramite breve deviazione,
a Maresca.
Dalla SS66 tramite la SS632,
attraversando Pracchia e
Pontepetri, raggiungi il Ponte della
Venturina (16 km) e Porretta
Terme.
Oppure dalla SS66 tramite la
SS64 considerando una sosta a
Sambuca Pistoiese (20 km)
raggiungerai comunque il Ponte
della Venturina.

Coming from Modena on the
SP23 near Gombola bridge
before arriving at the Gombola
Mill near to the small post office
there is a detour to your left going
up the hill - via San Michele
- that takes you to Serramazzoni
(road signs for Casa Storta
Serramazzoni). You will pass by
Pompeano castle.
Continuing along the road you
will reach Serramazzoni and
Pavullo. Distance of link route A:

The SS324 connects Passo delle
Radici with Pievepelago and

From Villa Basilica get to Pescia
along the SP12. Keep in mind
a stop at Collodi, birth place
of the author of the famous
Pinocchio (for information:
tel. 0572.429342).
From Pescia follow the SP3 to
Vellano (20 km).
Lucca and Pistoia are connected
by highways: the motorway takes
you the 45 km in half an hour.
Don't forget to have a look at
this area that produces wine and
olive oil. For example a stop at
Montecarlo (Lucca)...
Along the SS12 coming from
Abetone you can turn left onto
the SP18 for Lizzano Pistoiese,
famous for its murals (15 km).
Follow the SP18 til you reach the
SS66. Keep in mind a stop at
Spignana, where you find a
medieval church, at St. Marcello
Pistoiese, at Gavinana with its
stone-built historical centre and
taking a quick detour at Maresca.
Leaving the SS66 going along
the SS632 passing the Pracchia
and Pontepetri you get to Ponte

Kommt man von Modena längs
der SP23, gibt es bei Ponte di
Gombola vor Mulino di Gombola
in der Nähe eines kleinen
Postamtes eine Abzweigung nach
links bergauf - via San Michele
- die nach Serramazzoni führt
(Schilder nach Casa Storta
- Serramazzoni). Man fährt nahe
der Burg Pompeano vorbei.
Auf der Weiterfahrt kann
man Serramazzoni und Pavullo
erreichen. Länge der
Verbindungsstraße A: 10 km.
Die SS324 verbindet Passo delle
Radici mit Pievepelago und
Sestola (Abetone kann man nach
einer kurzen Strecke auf der SS12
erreichen). Sie führt an Lizzano
in Belvedere vorbei. Auf ihr kann
man alle Touren miteinander
verbinden. Die Entfernung
zwischen Piandelagotti und
Pievepelago beträgt 15 km. Die
gleiche Entfernung besteht
zwischen Passo delle Radici und
Pievepelago.
Man kann auf der SP27 über
Verica bis zum Zusammentreffen
mit der SP4 fahren. Sehr schön
ist auch die kurze Strecke auf der
SP26 über Castagneto bis zur SP4
(ohne Verica zu beachten). Von
Pavullo kannst du auch Niviano
erreichen (Gemeindestrassen
parallel zur SP 27); dort empfehlen
wir einen Besuch des Naturparks
in Sassoguidano.

Die SP30 bringt dich auf
kurvenreicher Straße nach Sestola
(50 km). Nahe Pavullo, längs der
SP30 liegt die Pieve di Renno,

Pfarrkirche.
Man kann direkt über Samone
auf die SS623 fahren (10 km)
oder der Tour 4 folgen, indem man
nach Montalbano abbiegt und erst

Längs der SS623 gibt es
verschiedene Abzweigungen nach
Montese; alle sind schön und über
alle kommst du in die Nähe des
charakteristischen Dorfes
Maserno di Montese. Genau so
leicht ist es von der SP4; folge
den Schildern nach Montese.

Die SS324 verbindet Passo delle

Von Zocca nimmt man zuerst die

"Val Samoggia" heißt.
Die Verbindungsstraße ist sehr
schön und auch Kurven fehlen
nicht. Folge den Schildern nach

Aufenthalt an der Rocca di Roffeno
ein, die wegen ihrer Schönheit
einen Besuch wert ist (15 km).
Nur 16 km trennen Porretta
(SS64) von Lizzano in Belvedere
(SS324). Man kann durch Silla
fahren oder auch Nebenstraßen
benutzen.
M Von Barga braucht man nur auf
der SS445 weiterzufahren, um

der SP12 nach Pescia. Plane
einen Halt in Collodi ein, das
Geburtsdorf des Autors des
berühmten Pinocchio.

der SP3 bis Vellano (20 km).
Lucca und Pistoia sind durch
schnell zu fahrende Straßen
miteinander verbunden: Auf der
Autobahn kann man in einer
halben Stunde die 45 km fahren,
die diese Städte trennen. Vergiss
jedoch die Möglichkeit nicht, diese
Gegend als Produktionsgegend
von Wein und Olivenöl kennen zu
lernen: z.B. mit einem Aufenthalt
in Montecarlo (Lucca)...
Wenn man von Abetone kommt,
kann man auf der SS12 nach links
auf die SP18 nach Lizzano
Pistoiese (15 km) abbiegen. Am
Ende dieser Straße kommt man
auf die SS66. Eine Unterbrechung
in Spignana täte gut; dort befindet
sich eine mittelalterliche Pieve;
zu besichtigen sind auch
S.Marcello Pistoiese und Gavinana
mit seiner Altstadt aus Feldsteinen
und - nach einem kurzen
Abstecher - Maresca.
Von der SS66 erreicht man auf
der SS632 - über Pontepetri und
Pracchia - Ponte della Venturina
(16 km) und Porretta Terme. Oder
man fährt über die SS64,
unterbricht in Sambuca Pistoiese
(20 km) und erreicht dann Ponte
della Venturina.

antico mulino ad acqua
ancora funzionante.

Burgenstrasse
Diese Strecke führt dich
zur Entdeckung kleiner
Bergortschaften, die einst
von Burgen und Festungen
beherrscht wurden. Zum Teil
sind aus jener Zeit nur
Ruinen verblieben, aber
zwischen Wäldern und
Dörfern aus Stein trifft man
auch auf eine antike
Wassermühle, die noch läuft.

Crescentine
Se ti viene un languorino tra le montagne
dell’Appennino modenese, ti consigliamo di
provare le tipiche “crescentine”. Una sorta di
antico pane di forma tondeggiante cotto nelle
cosiddette “tigelle” e da farcire dopo averle
tagliate a metà, con “pesto” (lardo battuto e
insaporito con aglio e rosmarino) e Parmigiano
Reggiano, salumi, o perfino… nutella! Il tutto
con un buon bicchiere di spumeggiante
lambrusco.
Crescentine
Should you feel like a snack in the Apennine
mountains of Modena, we advise you to try
the typical "crescentine". An antique kind of
bread roll cooked in the so-called "tigelle" to
be cut in half and spread with "pesto" (lard
flavoured with garlic and rosmary) and sprinkled
with Parmigiano Reggiano, filled with salami
or even... Nutella (a chocolate spread)! To be
washed down with a good glass of sparkling
lambrusco.
Crescentine
Sollte sich zwischen den Hügeln des Modeneser
Apennins der kleine Hunger melden, so
empfehlen wir, die typischen "crescentine" zu
probieren. Eine Art von antikem, rundem Brot,
das in den sogenannten "tigelle" gebacken
wird, danach aufgeschnitten und mit "pesto"
(Schmalz mit Rosmarin und Knoblauch)
bestrichen und mit Parmesanenkäse bestreut,
mit Wurst belegt oder sogar mit... Nutella
bestrichen wird. Dieses alles mit einem Glas
sprudelndem Lambrusco!

Modena -> Passo delle Radici
TOUR 1
Castelli
Puoi percorrere l’intero
itinerario, da Modena fino al
Passo delle Radici, lungo la
SS486, oppure lungo uno dei
due percorsi alternativi che ti
proponiamo:
1)
Da Modena raggiungi Sassuolo
per la SS486. Da Sassuolo
segui le indicazioni per San
Michele/Prignano fino al bivio
dove prenderai la SP 20
per Montegibbio (castello).
Passa Montebaranzone
(castello), segui sempre la
SP20 fino al bivio in cui
prenderai a destra per
Prignano per la SP21.
Lascia la SP21 per la SP23
prendendo per Polinago e
costeggiando il fiume
Rossenna alla tua sinistra.
Passerai Talbignano (castello
su di un colle alla tua destra).
Attraversato il fiume, dopo
alcuni chilometri vi è un bel
ponte a schiena d’asino alla
tua destra. In basso proprio
sul fiume, vi è un curioso
tempietto a forma ottagonale.
A destra in alto su di un colle
si vede il castello di Gombola.
Puoi utilizzare l’itinerario
di collegamento verde “A”
(vedi sezione).
Subito prima del ponte sul
torrente, prendete la strada
chiusa a sinistra che finisce
proprio nello spiazzo dove vi
è un bel mulino ad acqua del
XVII sec. ancora utilizzato, con
grande ruota a catino.
Ritornato sulla strada
principale prosegui per
Polinago a destra.
Al bivio lascia la SP23 per la
SP28 direzione Palagano (a
sinistra si va verso l’Abetone
You can follow the whole
itinerary from Modena to
Passo delle Radici along
the SS486 or take either of
the two alternatives we
propose:
1)
From Modena to Sassuolo by
the SS486. From Sassuolo
follow the indications for San
Michele/Prignano as far as
the road fork and take the
SP20 to Montegibbio (castle).
Go past Montebaranzone
(castle) continue along the
SP20 until the road fork
that turns right to Prignano
on the SP21.
Leave the SP21 for the SP23
towards Polinago alongside
the river Rossenna to your left.
Pass Talbignano (castle on a
hill to your right) go across the
river and a few kilometres
further on there is a very nice
humpback bridge on your right.
Lower down there is a very
pretty little octagonal temple.
To the right up the hill you can
see Gombola Castle.
You can use the green linking
route "A" (see section)
Immediately before the bridge
take the dead end road to
the left that ends right on an
open space where there is an
attractive old water mill of the
XVII century that is still in
use today, it has a big basin
chain wheel.
Going back along the main
road to Polinago to the right,
at the junction leave the
SP23 for the SP28 towards
Palagano (to the left you can
go to Abetone via Lama
Mocogno to join the other
suggested routes).
Man kann den ganzen Weg von
Modena bis zum Passo delle
Radici längs der SS486 fahren
oder auf einer der beiden
Alternativstrecken, die wir hier
vorschlagen:
1)
Von Modena erreicht man
Sassuolo auf der SS486.
Von Sassuolo solltest du
den Schildern nach San
Michele/Prignano bis zur
Abzweigung der SP20 folgen,
auf der du nach Montegibbio
(Burg) fährst. Du durchfährst
Montebaranzone (Burg),
folgst der SP20 bis zur
Gabelung mit der SP21, auf der
du dann rechts ab nach
Prignano fährst.
Verlasse die SP21, um auf der
SP23 Polinago zu erreichen;
dabei fährst du rechts am Fluss
Rossenna entlang. Man fährt
an Talbignano vorbei (rechts
auf einem Hügel liegt die Burg).
Einige Kilometer nach
Überquerung des Flusses steht
rechts von dir eine schöne
Bogenbrücke. Unten, direkt am
Fluss, steht ein kurioser,
achteckiger kleiner Tempel.
Oben rechts auf einem Hügel
sieht man die Burg von
Gombola.
Man kann den grünen
Verbindungsweg "A" benutzen
(siehe Verbindungsstrassen).
Direkt vor der Brücke fährt man
die Sackgasse links hinein, die
auf dem Platz mit einer schönen
Wassermühle aus dem 17.
Jahrh. endet - sie ist mit einem
großen Schaufelrad noch in
Betrieb. Zur Hauptstraße
zurückgekehrt, fährt man weiter
rechts nach Polinago. An der
Abzweigung fährt man von der

passando per Lama Mocogno
per l’eventuale raccordo con
l’altro itinerario).
Dopo Palagano prendete per
Montefiorino (castello)
reinnestandoti sulla via
SS486. Da Montefiorino puoi
raggiungere il Passo delle
Radici per la SS486 o, meglio,
per la SP32 (Frassinoro).
2)
L’altra opportunità consiste
nel prendere per Baiso
all’altezza di Roteglia (SS486).
Raggiungi Carpineti (castello),
Castelnovo ne' Monti (Pietra
di Bismantova), Villa Minozzo.
Ricongiungiti sulla SS486
all’altezza di Cerredolo oppure
prosegui per Piandelagotti e
Passo delle Radici.
La SS486 si innesta sulla
SS324. Venendo da Modena
a destra Passo delle Radici
a sinistra l’itinerario di
collegamento verde “B”
(vedi sezione) direzione
Pievepelago-Sestola.
After Palagano go towards
Montefiorino (castle) by going
back on to the SS486.
From Montefiorino you can
get to Passo delle Radici on
the SS486 or better still on
the SP32 (Frassinoro).

Another possibility is to go
towards Baiso near Roteglia
(SS486).
You arrive at Carpineti
(castle), Castelnovo ne' Monti
(Pietra di Bismantova), Villa
Minozzo. Rejoin the SS486 at
Cerredolo or continue to
Piandelagotti and Passo delle
Radici.
The SS486 goes into the
SS324. Coming from Modena,
to the right: Passo delle Radici,
to the left: green linking route
"B" (see section) towards
Pievepelago-Sestola.
SP23 auf die SP28 Richtung
Palagano (links geht es Richtung
Abetone durch Lama Mocogno
-zu einer möglichen Verbindung
mit einer anderen Route).
Hinter Palagano fährst du nach
Montefiorino (Burg); dort geht
es wieder auf die SS486. Von
Montefiorino kannst du Passo
delle Radici auf der SS486
erreichen oder besser über die
SP32 (Frassinoro).
2)
Die zweite Möglichkeit besteht
darin, in Höhe von Roteglia
(SS486) Richtung Baiso zu
fahren; über Carpineti (Burg)
Castelnovo ne' Monti (Pietra
di Bismantova), Villa Minozzo.
Bei Cerredolo erreicht man
wieder die SS486, oder man
fährt weiter nach Piandelagotti
und Passo delle Radici.
Die SS486 führt auf die
SS324. Kommt man von
Modena, liegt rechts Passo
delle Radici und links die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "B" (siehe
Verbindungsstrassen). Richtung
Pievepelago-Sestola.

Montegibbio
Il castello sorge su di un colle

raggiungibile tramite la breve
deviazione che trovi alla tua
destra.
Montebaranzone
Il castello fu fatto costruire dalla
contessa Matilde di Canossa la
famosa condottiera e sovrana
dell’XI secolo.
Talbignano
Il castello, detto “Palazzo di
Talbignano” (XVI sec.), ha tre
torri angolari e una cilindrica.
All’interno di quest’ultima c’è
una bella scala a chiocciola in
arenaria. Fu fatto risistemare
dopo che quello di Gombola
crollò per una frana.
Gombola
Raggiungerai il castello per una
bella stradina al lato destro
della strada (cartello turistico
marrone). Il castello vero e
proprio fu distrutto da una frana
e al suo posto fu costruita nel
XVI secolo la “Podesteria”
(l’edificio che trovate di fronte
ai resti della chiesetta) che
ospitava le prigioni e l’attività
amministrativa.

The castle stands on a hill in a
public park and can be reached
by making a short detour,
down a road that you will find
on your right.
Montebaranzone
Countess Matilde di Canossa,
the famous leader and
sovereign, built this castle in
the XI century.
Talbignano
The castle known as "Palazzo
di Talbignano" (XVI century) was
restored after an earthquake
had destroyed Gombola castle.
It has three angular towers and
one round tower. Inside the
round tower there is a beautiful
sandstone winding staircase.
Gombola
You can reach the castle by a
very nice little road to the right
of the road (see brown tourist
road sign). The real castle was
destroyed by a landslide and in
the XVI century the "Podesteria"
was built in its place (the
building that you see in front of
the remains of the little church).
It held the prisons and the
administrative activities. There
are also the remains of the little

Montegibbio
Die Burg liegt auf einem Hügel in
einem öffentlichen Park und ist
durch einen kurzen Umweg zu
erreichen, der sich zu deiner
Rechten befindet.
Montebaranzone
Die Burg wurde von Gräfin Matilde
zu Canossa errichten lassen, der
berühmten Feldherrin und
Herrscherin des 11.Jahrh.
Talbignano
Die Burg, "Palazzo di Talbignano"
(16 Jahrh.) genannt, hat drei eckige
und einen zylinderförmigen Turm.
Im Innern dieses letzten läuft eine
sehr schöne Wendeltreppe aus
Sandstein. Die Burg wurde
restauriert, nachdem die in
Gombola durch einen Erdrutsch
zerstört worden war.
Gombola
Die Burg kannst du über einen
kleinen Weg rechts der Straße
erreichen (brauner Wegweiser).
Die eigentliche Burg wurde durch
einen Erdrutsch zerstört, und an
deren Stelle wurde im 16. Jahrh.
die "Podesteria" erbaut (das
Gebäude liegt gegenüber den
Ruinen der kleinen Kirche), in der
das Gefängnis und die Verwaltung
untergebracht waren.
Außerdem stehen noch Reste der

Dai giardini dell’ospedale
S.Anna parte la strada che in
3 km arriva presso la “Pietra di
Bismantova” (inconfondibile la
sagoma squadrata, con pareti
a picco e prateria sommitale
piatta citata da Dante Alighieri).
Raggiungere la cima a piedi
richiede circa mezz’ora.
Dalla vetta si gode un bel
panorama. Interessante il
Parco Naturale del Gigante

hospital there is a 3 km path
that takes you to "Pietra di

walls and its flat summit fields
as quoted by Dante Alighieri)
to get to the top by foot takes
about half an hour. From the
top there is a particularly nice

bezeichneten, nahen Wege
benutzen.
Castelnovo ne' Monti
Von den Gärten des Krankenhauses
S. Anna führt eine 3 km lange
Straße zur "Pietra di Bismantova”.
Unverwechselbar ist die rechteckige
Form mit steil abfallenden Wänden
und oben einer Grasebene - schon
von Dante Alighieri zitiert. Bis nach
oben zu kommen, braucht man
circa eine halbe Stunde, hat dann
aber ein herrliches Panorama.

Metato
Il metato è un essiccatoio per le castagne. Conteneva quintali di castagne
raccolte nei boschi e messe in questa specie di forno per quasi due
mesi. Il fuoco veniva gestito a turno da più persone che si alternavano
alla guardia anche durante la notte.
Il calore ed il fumo facevano perdere l’umidità alle castagne che
divenivano così pronte per la macinatura.
Metato is a drying place for chestnuts. It contained a hundred kilos of
chestnuts gathered in the woods and put to dry in this kind of oven for
almost two months. The fire was looked after by many people in turn,
even during the night.
The heat and the smoke dried the chestnuts preparing them for grinding.
Der Metato ist ein Trockenraum für Kastanien. Er enthielt Doppelzentner
von Kastanien, die in den Wäldern gesammelt wurden und fast zwei
Monate in dieser Art Ofen lagerten. Das Feuer wurde turnusgemäß von
mehreren Menschen unterhalten, die sich auch während der Nacht zur
Wache abwechselten.
Die Hitze und der Rauch zogen die Feuchtigkeit aus den Kastanien, die
so für das Mahlen vorbereitet wurden.

Capanna celtica
Dai uno sguardo alle antiche capanne
celtiche caratterizzate dai tipici tetti a
gradoni. Ne puoi trovare di simili in...
Bretagna! Pare difatti che risalgano ad
un periodo compreso tra il 700 e il 150
a.C. Non dimentichiamo che "Appennino"
deriva da Pehn nome di una divinità dei
Celti. I due esemplari meglio conservati
si trovano in località Roncacci
(Pievepelago) e località Valdare (Fiumalbo).
Celtic Huts
Have a look at the antique Celtic huts
characterised by the thatched roofs (where
they have been repaired) and the typical
"tier" supporting structure. Similar ones
can be found in Brittany. It seems that
they come from a period between 700
and 150 before Christ. The name
Apennine comes from the name of the
Celtic god Pehn. The two best preserved
examples are near Roncacci (Pievepelago)
and near Valdare (Fiumalbo).

Wirf einen Blick auf die antiken keltischen
Hütten, die durch die typischen
Stufendächer gekennzeichnet sind.
Ähnliche findest du in der Bretagne! Man
nimmt an, dass sie aus der Zeit zwischen
700 und 150 v.Chr. stammen. Der Name
"Appennino" kommt von "Pehn", dem
Namen einer keltischen Gottheit. Die zwei
am besten erhaltenen Hütten stehen in
den Orten Roncacci (Pievepelago) und

Puoi percorrere l'intero
itinerario, da Modena fino al
Passo dell'Abetone lungo la
SS12, oppure lungo uno dei
due percorsi alternativi che
ti proponiamo:
1)
Raggiungi Maranello (Galleria
Ferrari) poi segui le indicazioni
per Serramazzoni (SP3).
Poco dopo Serramazzoni
considera una breve
deviazione al castello di
Pompeano.
Proseguendo per questa
strada utilizzerai un itinerario
di collegamento verde "A"
(vedi sezione). Oppure da
Pompeano ritorna sulla
precedente strada e prosegui
fino al bivio in cui ci si ricollega
alla SS12 per poi raggiungere
l'Abetone.
2)
Escludi Maranello e raggiungi
Castenuovo Rangone (SP17)
per proseguire fino a
Castelvetro. Prosegui lungo
la SP18 raggiungendo
Madonna di Puianello, Riccò,
per poi percorrere la SP36 e
reinserirti poco prima di
Pavullo (castello di
Montecuccoli), nel la SS12.
che ti porterà all'Abetone.
Considera i due itinerari verdi
di collegamento "C" e "D"
(vedi sezione) per Verica e
Sestola.
In entrambe le opzioni ti
consigliamo di fare una visita
alle "Capanne celtiche" e a
Fiumalbo lungo la SS12 che
ti porterà fino al Passo
dell'Abetone. A Pievepelago
itinerario verde di collegamento
"B" (vedi sezione).
It is possible to follow the
whole route from Modena to
Abetone Pass along the SS12,
or along one of the two routes
that we suggest here:
1)
Go as far as Maranello (Ferrari
Gallery) then follow the
indications for Serramazzoni
(SP3).
Soon after Serramazzoni how
about a quick deviation to the
castle of Pompeano.
Continuing along this road you
can catch on to the green
linking route "A" (see
section).
Or from Pompeano go back to
the road you were on before
and go ahead until the fork
that goes onto the SS12 to
get to the Abetone.
2)
Leave out Maranello and go
to Castelnuovo Rangone
(SP17), continue until
Castelvetro. Go along the
SP18 reaching Madonna di
Puianello and Riccò, then
proceed along the SP36 and
go back onto the SS12 just
before Pavullo (castle of
Montecuccoli) which will take
you to the Abetone.
Have a look at the two green
linking routes "C" and "D"
(see section) for Verica and
Sestola.
Which ever you chose we
advise you to have a look at
the "Capanne celtiche" and
at Fiumalbo along the SS12,
that will take you to the
Abetone Pass.
At Pievepelago green linking
route "B" (see section).
Die ganze Strecke von
Modena bis zum Passo
dell'Abetone kann man auf
der SS12 fahren oder auf einer
der beiden Alternativstrecken,
die wir vorschlagen:
1)
Ab Maranello (Galerie Ferrari)
fährt man weiter nach
Serramazzoni (SP3).
Kurz nach Serramazzoni raten
wir zu einer kurzen Abzweigung
zur Burg von Pompeano.
Fährt man weiter auf dieser
Straße, benutzt man die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "A" (siehe
Verbindungsstrassen). Oder du
fährst von Pompeano dieselbe
Straße zurück und weiter bis
zur Einmündung auf die SS12
und weiter nach Abetone.
2)
Lass Maranello aus und fahre
direkt nach Castenuovo
Rangone (SP17) und weiter
nach Castelvetro.
Auf der SP18 fährt man dann
nach Madonna di Puianello,
Riccò, und weiter auf der SP36
bis man kurz vor Pavullo (Burg
Montecuccoli) auf die SS12
stößt, auf der man nach
Abetone kommt.
Die beiden grünen
Verbindungsstraßen "C" e
"D"(siehe Verbindungsstrassen)
führen nach Verica und
Sestola.
In beiden Fällen raten wir dir
einen Besuch bei den
"Capanne celtiche"
(Keltischen Hütten) und in
Fiumalbo längs der SS12, die
dich bis zum Passo
dell'Abetone führt.
In Pievepelago ist die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "B" (siehe
Verbindungsstrassen).

Has an unusual little town: a
park dedicated to John Lennon,

Die bezaubernde Altstadt - aus dem
Mittelalter - dieser Kunststadt liegt
am Zusammenlauf zweier Flüsse.

die typischen "voltine"

La via dei laghi
Seguendo il corso del
fiume a ritroso fino ai piedi
del Monte Giovo dove è
situato Lago Santo.
Da qui un altro laghetto
da raggiungere a piedi:
Lago Baccio. Poi di nuovo
in sella e sfruttando il
collegamento con
l'itinerario vicino ancora
laghi: si raggiungeranno
infatti Suviana e
Brasimone.
The road of the lakes
Go up stream along the
river until the foot of
Monte Giovo to Lago
Santo. From there to
another small lake you can
go by foot that is Lago
Baccio. Then back to the
bike and using the
connecting roads on the
nearby route there are
more lakes: that way you
get to Suviana and
Brasimone.
Die Strasse der Seen
Geht man flussaufwärts
bis zum Fuße des Monte
Giovo, trifft man auf den
Lago Santo.
Von hier kann man zu Fuß
den Lago Baccio

wieder auf das Motorrad

Verbindungsweg zu

Da Modena raggiungi Vignola
per la SS623. Considera
una sosta nel centro di
Spilamberto. Prosegui per la
provinciale 4 (Fondovalle) e
raggiungi Sestola per poi
concludere l'itinerario al Passo
dell'Abetone lungo la SS324
prima e la SS12 poi.
Hai due alternative per
raggiungere il Passo:
1)
Raggiungerlo direttamente per
la veloce provinciale SP4
2)
Raggiungerlo percorrendo
alcuni tratti paralleli alla SP4
come ti spieghiamo di seguito.
Da Vignola prosegui fino alla
deviazione per Festà (Parco
faunistico di Festà) continua
lungo questa strada in salita
fino al Parco naturalistico (il cui
ingresso è nei pressi di una
chiesetta). Proseguendo lungo
la stessa strada ti innesterai
sulla SS12. Prosegui in
direzione Pavullo ma prima di
entrare in paese svolta per
Benedello (alla tua sinistra).
Nuovamente in salita ma questa
volta un sali e scendi ti riporterà
nuovamente sulla SP4. Una
volta ritornato sulla SP4
prosegui per Sestola. Considera
l'itinerario verde di
collegamento "C" (vedi
sezione). Prima di entrare a
Fanano ti suggeriamo di
valutare due piccole ma belle
deviazioni:
2.1)
Trentino e le vicine Rocchetta
Sandri e Vesale, piccoli borghi
che si raggiungono dopo
un'impervia ma bella salita
che ti consente di ritornare
sulla strada principale.
From Modena go to Vignola
by the SS623. Consider a
stop in the centre of
Spilamberto. Carry on along
the state road 4 (Fondovalle)
reaching Sestola: you can
conclude the trip at Abetone
Pass along the SS324 first
and then the SS12 .
You have two alternative roads
to get to the Pass:
1)
Go straight there with the
quick state road SP4
2)
Get there by following some
parallel by-ways to the SP4
as we will now explain.
From Vignola follow the detour
to Festà (Parco faunistico di
Festà). Continue along this
uphill road to the Nature
Reserve Park (the entrance
is near to a small church).
Continuing along the same
road you will get onto the
SS12. Go ahead towards
Pavullo but just before getting
there, turn off for Benedello
(its on your left ). Uphill again,
but this time the up and down
road will take you back to the
SP4. Once back on the SP4
go on to Sestola. Look at the
green linking route "C" (see
section). Before going into
Fanano we suggest the idea
of two quick but very pretty
detours:
2.1)
Trentino and the nearby
Rocchetta Sandri and Vesale,
tiny hamlets that you reach
after a steep but beautiful
climb that takes you back to
the main road again.
2.2)
Ospitale is the other detour.
Von Modena erreicht man
Vignola auf der SS623. Denke
auch an einen Aufenthalt im
Zentrum von Spilamberto.
Weiter auf der SP4 (Fondovalle)
nach Sestola und zum Passo
dell'Abetone längs der SS324
und dann der SS12. Es gibt
zwei Alternativwege, um den
Pass zu erreichen:
1)
entweder direkt auf der
schnellen Straße SP4
2)
oder auf kurzen Strecken parallel
zur SP4, die wir dir noch erklären
werden. Von Vignola fährt man
bis zur Abzweigung nach Festà
(Parco faunistico di Festà),
weiter auf dieser Straße bergauf
bis zum Naturpark (der Eingang
liegt in der Nähe einer kleinen
Kirche). Fährt man auf derselben
Straße weiter, kommt man auf
die SS12. Fahre weiter Richtung
Pavullo; vor der Stadt geht es
links nach Benedello. Auf dieser
Straße geht es bergauf und
bergab wieder auf die SP4.
Auf der fährt man dann weiter
nach Sestola. Beachte die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "C" (siehe
Verbindungsstrassen). Vor
Fanano sollte man die beiden
kurzen, aber schönen
Abzweigungen in Erwägung
ziehen:
2.1)
über Trentino und die in der
Nähe liegenden Ortschaften
Rocchetta Sandri und Vesale,
kleine Orte, die man nach einer
unwegsamen, aber schönen
Steigung erreicht; nach diesen
erreicht man wieder die
Hauptstraße;
2.2)
die zweite Abzweigung führt

Ospitale è l'altra deviazione.
Da lì puoi raggiungere il Passo
della Croce Arcana (sterrato)
per scendere a Cutigliano (Tour
7 e 8) o tornare sulla strada
principale.
Prima di Fanano puoi
considerare i due itinerari di
collegamento verde "F" e "G"
(vedi sezione). Passato il centro
in pietra di Fanano continua a
salire raggiungendo Sestola
(castello). Di lì prosegui per
Montecreto, famoso per i
castagni e per Riolunato, che
conserva un grazioso centro
storico, lungo una bella strada
panoramica fin tanto che
raggiungi Pievepelago. Qui segui
le indicazioni per "Abetone".
Raggiunta "Dogana nuova"
immettiti sulla strada per
Rotari. Questo piccolo borgo è
raggiungibile attraverso una
stradina stretta ma sicura che
attraversa i boschi in un
suggestivo avvicendarsi di
curve. La strada si conclude
innestandosi sulla direttrice
Pievepelago - Lago Santo.
Volta a sinistra e proseguite in
salita fino a quando arriverai
ad un parcheggio. Prosegui a
piedi. Pochi metri e sarai sulle
sponde di questo bel lago
naturale. Sempre a piedi ti
consigliamo vivamente di
raggiungere "Lago Baccio" che
non dista molto ed è altrettanto
suggestivo. Ripresa la moto
scendi a Pievepelago, questa
volta senza passare per Rotari
e raggiunta la SS12 svolta a
destra proseguendo lungo
l'ultimo tratto della strada che
ti porta al passo dell'Abetone
(1388 m.).

through the stone-built centre
of Fanano continue climbing

attractive panoramic road till
you get to Pievepelago. Here
follow the indications for
"Abetone". Having got to
"Dogana nuova" go onto the
road for Rotari. This tiny
hamlet can be reached by a
narrow but safe little road
that goes through the woods
in a fascinating series of
curves. The road finishes by
joining directly on to the road
to Pievepelago - Lago Santo.
Turn left and go on uphill until
you get to a parking place.
Continue by foot after a few
metres you will find a
charming natural lake.
We warmly advise you to go
on to "Lago Baccio" as it is
not much further ahead and
is also very charming.
Getting back to the bike go
down to Pievepelago, this time
without passing through
Rotari, and reconnect with the
SS12. Turn right and go along
the last part of the road that
takes you to Passo Abetone
(1388 m.).

man den Pass Croce Arcana
(Feldweg) erreichen und dann
entweder nach Cutigliano (Tour
7 und 8) oder wieder auf die
Hauptstraße. Vor Fanano
ziehe die beiden grünen
Verbindungsstrassen "F" und
"G" in Betracht (siehe
Verbindungsstrassen). Nach
dem historischen Zentrum aus
Stein von Fanano geht es weiter
bergauf bis Sestola (Burg).
Man kann die beiden in Betracht
ziehen. Von hier fährst du auf
einer schönen Panoramastraße
bis Pievepelago. Dabei kommst
du über Montecreto - berühmt
für die Kastanien - und
Riolunato, wo man eine
wunderschöne historische
Altstadt findet. Ab hier folgst
du den Schildern nach
"Abetone". In "Dogana nuova"
fahre auf die Straße nach
Rotari. Dieses Dorf ist auf einer
schmalen, aber sicheren Straße
zu ereichen, die sehr
kurvenreich durch Wälder führt.
Dieser Weg mündet auf die
Straße Pievepelago - Lago
Santo. Fahre nach links und
weiter bergauf bis zum
Parkplatz. Weiter geht es zu Fuß
- nur einige Meter und du findest
dich am Ufer dieses herrlichen
natürlichen Sees wieder. Wir
raten dir auch, weiter zu Fuß
zum "Lago Baccio" zu laufen,
der nicht weit entfernt liegt und
ebenfalls sehr schön ist. Zurück
zum Motorrad und bergab nach
Pievepelago - dieses Mal nicht
über Rotari; auf der SS12 fahre
nach rechts und folge dem
letzten Straßenstück, das dich
zum Passo dell'Abetone (1388
m.) führt.

sapore ed aroma, ma anche per il costo... la sua quotazione può infatti superare i 2.000.000 di lire al litro! La sua età
ideale è dai 12 anni in su e più invecchia più diventa gustoso... e costoso. La sua complessa lavorazione si tramanda
da secoli e a differenza del "solito" aceto non è ottenuto dalla fermentazione del vino ma da mosto di uva cotto e
invecchiato in particolari botti di diverso legno, conservate nelle tipiche acetaie.
Traditional Vinegar Producers
Of the many gastronomic treasures from Modena there is the traditional Balsamic Vinegar. A real treasure not only for
its particular flavour and aroma but also for its price - it has been quoted at more than 2.000.000 lire a litre! It is at its
ideal age from 12 years onward: the older it gets the better it tastes and the more it costs. The complex method of working
this product has been handed down from father to son for many generations and the difference it has to "normal" vinegar
is obtained not through the fermentation of the wine but from the cooked grape must, that is aged in particular barrels
of different kinds of wood, kept in the typical vinegar works.
Traditioneller Essigraum

desto teurer. Seine komplizierte Verarbeitung wird seit Jahrhunderten überliefert. Im Unterschied zum "normalen" Essig wird er nicht
aus Weingärung hergestellt, sondern aus gekochtem Rebenmost, der in besonderen Fässern aus verschiedenen Holzarten abgelagert
und in den typischen Essigräumen aufbewahrt wird.

Nach einem kalorienreichen Essen auf emilianische Art gibt es nichts besseres als ein
Glass guten Nocinos, um die Verdauung eines nicht gerade „sehr leichten" Essens zu

Tortellini
la leggenda narra che i tortellini siano stati inventati
in provincia di Modena da un oste che, colpito dalla
bellezza di una dama ospite della sua locanda, non
molto galantemente andò a sbirciare dal buco della
serratura. La dama si stava spogliando e l'oste
innamorato decise di immortalare il grazioso ombelico
che aveva visto sbirciando. Non essendo però un
pittore ma un oste lo riprodusse come poteva... con
un quadretto di pasta ripiena richiuso su se stesso.
Tortellini
the story is that tortellini were invented in the province
of Modena by a innkeeper who, struck by the beauty
of a lady guest in his inn, not very gallantly took a
peep through the key hole of her bedroom. The Lady
was undressing and the innkeeper having fallen in
love decided to immortalise the most perfect little
navel he had ever seen.
Not being an artist but an innkeeper he reproduced
it as he could ... with a square of pasta filled and
closed around its self.
Tortellini
die Legende besagt, dass die Tortellini in der Provinz
Modena von einem Wirt erfunden worden sind, der
- von der Schönheit eines weiblichen Gastes seines
Hauses beeindruckt - nicht gerade sehr galant durchs
Schlüsselloch guckte. Die Dame entkleidete sich
gerade, und der verliebte Wirt entschied sich, den
reizenden Nabel, den er soeben gesehen hatte, zu
verewigen. Da er jedoch kein Maler war, sondern ein
Wirt, tat er was er konnte ... durch ein gefülltes
Teigquadrat, das um sich selbst geschlossen wurde.

Partendo da Modena raggiungi
Castelnuovo Rangone,
Castelvetro poi Vignola tramite
la SS623. Attraversando
Vignola mantenendoti sulla
SS623 noterai il castello.
Prosegui seguendo le
indicazioni per Zocca e dopo
alcuni chilometri salendo tra
le colline incontrerai un
cartello turistico (marrone)
"Parco regionale dei sassi di
Roccamalatina". Raggiungi il
centro storico di Guiglia
passando sotto alla porta con
lo stemma nobiliare dei
Montecuccoli. Il castello del
'300 è stato unito al palazzo.
Non perdere il panorama sulle
colline circostanti godibile da
Guiglia. Lungo la strada
SS623 incontrerai altri due
cartelli marroni "Pieve di
Trebbio" e "Parco dei Sassi
di Roccamalatina".
Imboccata la stradina la Pieve
rimarrà a destra e il Parco a
sinistra. Quest'ultimo ha un
ingresso dedicato per chi
vuole fare escursioni a piedi.
Altrimenti puoi proseguire.
Questo percorso presenta
alcuni facili tratti di sterrato
battuto. Se non hai la moto
adatta puoi evitarli
mantenendoti sulla SS623.
Presso la Pieve di Trebbio
girare a sinistra verso i
"Sassi". C'è un punto di
ristoro lungo il torrente.
Si passano Castellino e
Gainazzo per raggiungere la
SP26 itinerario verde di
collegamento "E". Prosegui
per Montalbano per poi
ricongiungerti alla SS623 in
direzione Zocca.
Considera l'itinerario verde
Leaving Modena get to
Castelnuovo Rangone,
Castelvetro then Vignola on
the SS623. Go through
Vignola, keeping on the SS623
you will see the castle.
Continue to follow the
indications for Zocca. After a
few kilometres climbing
through the hills you will find
a brown tourist sign post
"Parco regionale dei sassi di
Roccamalatina". Reach the
historical centre of Guiglia by
going under the gate arch,
look out for the Montecuccoli
coat of arms. The castle of
the 14th century has been
made part of the palace.
Don't miss the panorama from
the surrounding hills that can
be enjoyed from Guiglia.
Along the road SS623 you
will see two more brown sign
posts for "Pieve di Trebbio"
and "Parco dei Sassi di
Roccamalatina".
Take this road and the Pieve
will be on your right and the
park on your left . The park
has an entrance for those who
wish to climb up the rock.
Otherwise go straight ahead.
This route has some parts
that are quite good gravel local
roads. If you don't have the
right kind of bike though you
can avoid it by keeping on the
SS623.
By the Pieve of Trebbio turn
left towards the "Sassi". There
is a respite place along the
torrent. You go past Castilino
and Gainazzo to get to the
SP26 green linking route "E".
Continue for Montalbano to
then catch up with the SS623
to Zocca.
Von Modena aus erreicht man
über die SS623 Castelnuovo
Rangone, Castelvetro und
Vignola. Beim Durchqueren
der Stadt auf der SS623
siehst du die Burg. Fahre
weiter Richtung Zocca; nach
einigen Kilometern hügeliger
Straße siehst du einen
braunen Wegweiser "Parco
regionale dei Sassi di
Roccamalatina". Fahre zu der
Altstadt von Guiglia durch
das Tor mit dem Adelswappen
der Montecuccoli.
Die Burg aus dem 14. Jahrh.
ist mit dem Palast verbunden.
Versäume nicht das Panorama
der um Guiglia liegenden
Hügel.
Längs der SS623 findest du
2 weitere braune Schilder
"Pieve di Trebbio" und "Parco
dei Sassi di Roccamalatina".
Fahre auf diese Straße, dann
liegt rechts die Pieve und links
der Park. Der Eingang ist aber
nur Wanderern vorbehalten.
Willst du nicht laufen, so fahre
weiter.
Diese Strecke besitzt einige
leicht zu fahrende Feldwege.
Hast du nicht das geeignete
Motorrad dafür, so bleibe auf
der SS623.
Bei der Pieve di Trebbio links
zum Park "Sassi" abbiegen.
An dem Fluss befindet sich
eine Möglichkeit, Rast zu
machen.
Nach Castellino und Gainazzo
erreichst du die SP26 grüne
Verbindungsstraße "E". Fahre
über Montalbano auf die
SS623 und weiter Richtung
Zocca. Ziehe die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "H"
(SP25-SP70) in Erwägung.

di collegamento "H" (SP25-
SP70). Oppure da Zocca
prosegui rimanendo sulla
SS623 seguendo i cartelli per
Castel d'Aiano. Incontrerai
una deviazione a sinistra per
Vergato che congiunge questo
con l'itinerario verde di
collegamento "I" passando
per Rocca di Roffeno.
Proseguendo sempre sulla
SS623 a destra incontrerai
un'altra deviazione che ti
collega con l'itinerario di
collegamento "F" passando
per Montese. Se invece hai
preferito rimanere su questo
itinerario, dovrai lasciare la
SS623 quando incontrerai il
cartello marrone "Parco
Corno alle Scale". Ci sono
due opportunità per
proseguire: SS324 e SP65.
Noi suggeriamo quest'ultima
per raggiungere Gabba e di lì
proseguire per Lizzano in
Belvedere (itinerari verdi di
collegamento "G" e "L").
Raggiungere Pianaccio (strada
un poco dissestata ma molto
bella) costeggiando un
torrente sotto di te. Da lì
prosegui per Segavecchia da
cui partono numerosi sentieri
per fare passeggiate tra i
boschi. Quest'ultimo tratto di
strada non è consigliato a chi
ha moto da strada a causa
del fondo sconnesso.
Un'altra opportunità consiste
nell'andare a Vidiciatico
(anziché a Lizzano) per
"Madonna dell'Acero"
(cartello marrone) SP71.
Anche da qui partono
numerosi sentieri segnati.

Or maybe from Zocca
continue on the SS623
following the signs for Castel
d'Aiano. You will get to a
detour to the left for Vergato
that links this with the green
link route "I" going past
Rocca di Roffeno.
Continue along the SS623
to the right you will find
another detour that will link
you to the green link
route "F" going through
Montese.
If you have preferred to stay
on this route you will have to
leave the SS623 when you get
to the brown road sign "Parco
Corno alle Scale".
There are two roads to
continue the trip the SS324
or the SP65.
We suggest this last to get to
Gabba and from there to
Lizzano in Belvedere (green
link routes "G" and "L"). On
reaching Pianaccio (The road
can be a bit rough but really
beautiful) go along side the
river that is below you.
From there go for Segavecchia
from where there are many
paths that take you on walks
through the woods.
This last bit of road is not the
best for road bikes as it is not
in very good state.
Another possibility could be
to go Vidiciatico (instead of
Lizzano) to "Madonna
dell'Acero" (brown tourist
sign) SP71.
From here to there are several
signed paths.
Oder folge ab Zocca auf der
SS623 den Schildern nach
Castel d'Aiano. Du findest
eine Abzweigung nach links
nach Vergato, die diese
Stadt mit der grünen
Verbindungsstraße "I" über
Rocca di Roffeno verbindet.
Immer weiter auf der SS623
triffst du rechts eine andere
Abzweigung, die dich mit der
grünen Verbindungsstraße
"F" über Montese verbindet.
Solltest du auf dieser Route
geblieben sein, musst du bei
dem braunen Schild "Parco
Corno alle Scale" von der
SS623 abbiegen. Nun hast
du zwei Möglichkeiten,
weiterzufahren: auf der SS324
oder auf der SP65. Wir
schlagen die SP65 vor, die
über Gabba nach Lizzano in
Belvedere führt (grüne
Verbindungsstraßen "G" und
"L"). Fahre nach Pianaccio
(ein etwas aufgeworfener,
aber sehr schöner Weg) einen
Fluss entlang, der unter dir
fließt. Dann geht es weiter
nach Segavecchia, von dort
gibt es viele Pfade zum
Spazierengehen in den
Wäldern. Dieses letzte
Straßenstück wird denjenigen
wegen des schlechten
Straßenzustands abgeraten,
die keine Gelände-Motorräder
besitzen.
Eine andere Möglichkeit: Man
fährt nach Vidiciatico (nicht
nach Lizzano) nach "Madonna
dell'Acero" (braunes Schild)
auf der SP71. Auch von hier
gehen viele gekennzeichnete
Wanderwege ab.

Di origine etrusca o romana
presenta un bel castello del XIV
secolo e un palazzo signorile
più recente ma altrettanto bello.
Invidiabili la posizione e il
panorama.
Pieve di Trebbio
L'origine della Pieve è molto
antica, la chiesetta è stata
realizzata almeno mille anni fa.
I numerosi rimaneggiamenti
ne hanno un po' intaccato
lo stile che di base rimane
comunque il romanico.
Parco dei Sassi
di Roccamalatina
I sassi sono speroni rocciosi
che sembrano due torri
d'avvistamento. E di cose da
guardare ce ne sono molte:
rapaci, tassi, donnole...

Benvenuti in città! Nel XIV sec.
era già punto di incontro per i
mercanti dell'epoca, a metà
dell' '800 fu elevata da borgo
a comune. Il nome “Zocca”
deriva dal ceppo di castagno
(nel dialetto locale viene
chiamato “zoca”) che si trovava
nel luogo dove abitualmente
si teneva il mercato. Non
trascurare le pievi e i castagneti
che circondano il paese.

Welcome to the city! In the XIV
cent. it was already a meeting
point for the merchants of that
period. The word “Zocca” infact
comes from the name of the
stump of the chestnut tree (in
the local dialect "zoca") to be
found where usually the market
was held. Don't neglect the

the chestnut woods though.

den Stil beeinträchtigt, der aber
immer romanisch bleibt.

di Roccamalatina
Die Steine sind felsige Ausläufer,
die wie zwei Wachttürme
aussehen. Es gibt wirklich viel zu
beobachten: Greifvögel, Dachse,
Mauswiesel, usw.

Willkommen in der Stadt! Im 14.
Jahrh. trafen sich hier schon die
Kaufleute jener Zeit. Im 19. Jahrh.
wurde Zocca von Bergdorf zu
"Gemeinde" befördert.
Der Name “Zocca” kommt vom
Stumpf eines Kastanienbaums (im
örtlichen Dialekt “Zoca” genannt),
der auf dem Platz stand, auf dem
gewöhnlich der Wochenmarkt
stattfand. Beachte aber auch die
Pieve und die Kastanienwälder,
die die Stadt umgeben. Das

Pieve di Roffeno, Jussiturm und die

problemi. La vicina Firenze
la fa passare in
second'ordine ma le sue
opere d'arte, piazze e
musei ci spingono ad
inserirla nel nostro
itinerario. Visitala e non
te ne pentirai. E poi... il
circuito del Mugello non è
così lontano!

Die Straße nach Pistoia
Oft ist es wirklich schwierig,
mit Nachbarn auf gutem
Fuß zu stehen. Auch Pistoia
hat seine Probleme.Das
naheliegende Florenz stellt
es auf den zweiten Platz,
aber seine Kunstwerke,
Plätze und Museen bringen
uns dazu, diese Stadt in
unsere Wegbeschreibung
einzubeziehen. Besuche sie
und du wirst es nicht
bereuen. Und außerdem: die
Rennstrecke von Mugello
ist nicht sehr weit!

Raggiungi Bazzano (SP16 da
Spilamberto). Costeggiando
campi e vigneti si va verso la
collina per proseguire fino al
Parco dell'Abbazia di
Monteveglio alta per una
sosta. Prima però puoi
concederti una piccola
deviazione in salita poco dopo
la cantina "Goccia". Ti porterà
nei pressi di una villa neoclassica
prima e ad uno
sterrato poi. Ritorna lungo la
SP 78 (provincia bolognese).
Prendi poi la SP27 (nella valle
Samoggia). All'incrocio
considera l'itinerario di
collegamento verde "H" con
Zocca SP70 - SP25. Per
continuare invece con questo
tour vai a sinistra, incontrerai
il Palazzo Cuzzano
dell'omonima famiglia
sanguinaria. Prosegui fino a
Savigno sempre lungo la
SP27. Incontrerai un incrocio:
a destra Tolé e Cereglio, a
sinistra per Montepastore. Tu
invece devi prendere la terza
via: quella in discesa (SP69).
E' una strada che ti porta
lungo la "Porrettana"
all'altezza di Marzabotto.
Suggeriamo vivamente di fare
la seguente deviazione: ad un
piccolo incrocio prendi la
stradina in salita per
Montasico. Ti ricongiungerai
sulla già citata SS64
"Porrettana". Se vuoi, girando
a sinistra dopo 200 metri c'è
Misa (necropoli etrusca con
annesso museo). Altrimenti
prosegui a destra fin tanto
che incontrerai una svolta a
sinistra per Grizzana Morandi.
Segui questa strada (SP24)
che si innesterà sulla SS325.
Get to Bazzano (SP16 from
Spilamberto). Coasting along
by fields and vine yards you
go towards the foot hills,
continuing until Parco of the
Abbazia di Monteveglio alta
for a rest . Before this however
take a little detour climb just
after the "Goccia" (wine
cellar). This takes you near to
a neo classical villa first and
then to a gravel road one.
Go back on to SP 78 (province
of Bologna). Then take the
SP27 (in the valley of
Samoggia). At the crossroad
see the green link route "H"
with Zocca SP70 - SP25.
To continue then with this
route turn left , you will see
Palazzo Cuzzano of the
homonymous blood-thirsty
family. Carry on till Savigno
on the SP27, you will find a
crossroad: to the right Tolé
and Cereglio, to the left for
Montepastore.
But you must take the third
road the one that goes down
hill (SP69). It is a road that
takes you along the
"Porrettana". At Marzabotto
we strongly suggest the
following deviation: at a small
crossroad take the narrow uphill
road for Montasico.
It will retake you to the
fore-mentioned SS64
"Porrettana". If you turn left
after 200 metres you will find
Misa ( an Etruscan necropolis
with a museum ).
Otherwise continue to the right
till the next left-hand road for
Grizzana Morandi.
Follow this road (SP24) that
goes into the SS325. You
won't have to leave this last
Fahre nach Bazzano (ab
Spilamberto auf der SP16). An
Feldern und Weinbergen vorbei
geht es Richtung Hügel bis zum
Park der Abbazia di
Monteveglio alta zu einer
Pause. Vorher kannst du dir
jedoch einen kleinen Umweg
bergauf kurz nach dem
Weinkeller "Goccia " gönnen.
Dieser Umweg führt dich
zuerst in die Nähe einer
klassizistische Villa und dann
auf eine Schotterstrasse.
Zurück geht es auf der SP78
(Provinz Bologna). Dann biegst
du in die SP27 (in das
Samoggiatal) ein. An der
Kreuzung ziehe die grüne
Verbindungsstraße "H" mit
Zocca SP70-SP25 in Betracht.
Um auf dieser Tour
weiterzufahren, musst du links
abbiegen. Dort kommst du zu
dem Cuzzano-Palast der
gleichnamigen, blutrünstigen
Familie. Du fährst weiter auf
der SP27 nach Savigno; an der
Kreuzung geht es nach rechts
Richtung Tolé und Cereglio,
nach links Richtung
Montepastore. Du fährst jedoch
auf die 3. Straße - bergab
(SP69). Diese Straße führt dich
längs der “Porrettana" in die
Höhe von Marzabotto.
Wir schlagen dann folgenden
Umweg vor: An einer kleinen
Kreuzung fahre bergauf die
kleine Straße nach Montasico,
dann kommst du wieder auf
die schon genannte SS64
"Porrettana". Nach 200 m ist
links die Misa (etruskische
Nekropolis mit Museum). Sonst
fährst du weiter nach rechts
bis zu einer Linkskurve nach
Grizzana Morandi.

Non dovrai lasciare
quest'ultima strada (considera
gli itinerari verdi di
collegamento "I" presso
Vergato e "L" presso
Porretta) fin tanto che arriverai
a Castiglione dei Pepoli.
Qui ci sono due possibilità:
1)
Proseguire lungo la SS325 in
direzione Prato. Passerai il
valico di Montepiano (è
consigliata una visita
all'omonima Abbazia) e
raggiungerai poi Vernio sempre
lungo la SS325. Si lascia poi
la statale per raggiungere
Gavigno. Si passa Fossato e
si raggiunge Ponte della
Venturina. Da lì lungo la SS64
raggiungerai Sambuca
Pistoiese.
Considera ora l'itinerario
verde di collegamento "P".
2)
Svoltare per Lago Brasimone
come di seguito spiegato:
lungo la SP62 prendi per
Suviana poi per Camugnano
restando sulla SP62. Prendi
per Castel di Casio SP23
per poi raggiungere Porretta
SP52.Sia da Porretta che
da Sambuca P. è facile
raggiungere Pistoia.
(Da dove puoi considerare
l'itinerario di collegamento
verde "O"). Suggeriamo, da
Porretta di raggiungere la
SS632.
Dal Passo della Venturina ti
porterà a Molino del Pallone
e Pracchia prima, e alla SS66
per Pistoia poi.
Da Sambuca Pistoiese segui
invece la SS64 sempre verso
Pistoia.

the mountain pass of
Montepiano (have a look at

there along the SS64 you
reach Sambuca Pistoiese.
Now see the green link

2)
Turn off for Brasimone Lake
as we will now explain: follow
the SP62 towards Suviana
then for Camugnano staying
on the SP62.
Go for Casio Castle SP23
then for Porretta SP52.
Both from Porretta or from
Sambuca P. it is easy to get
to Pistoia (where you can take
the green link itinerary "O").
We suggest that from Porretta
you go to the SS632.
From Passo della Venturina
you carry on to Molino del
Pallone and Pracchia first and
then the SS66 for Pistoia.
From Sambuca Pistoiese it
is better to follow the SS64
still in the direction of Pistoia.
Folge dieser Straße (SP24) bis
zur SS325. Bleibe auf dieser
Straße (ziehe die grünen
Verbindungsstraßen "I" bei
Vergato und "L" bei Porretta
in Erwägung) bis du in
Castiglione dei Pepoli
ankommst. Hier gibt es
zwei Möglichkeiten:
1)
Folge der SS325 Richtung
Prato. Du fährst über den
Montepianopass (ein Besuch
in der gleichnamigen Abtei ist
angeraten) und erreichst auf
der SS325 Vernio. Hier verlässt
du die Bundesstrasse und
fährst nach Gavigno. Und dann
geht es über Fossato nach
Ponte della Venturina. Von hier
längs der SS64 erreichst du
Sambuca Pistoiese.
Hier könnte man auf der
grünen Verbindungsstraße
"P" weiterfahren.
2)
Fahre wie folgt zum
Brasimonesee: längs der SP62
Richtung Suviana. Von Suviana
geht es rechts ab nach
Camugnano. Dort nimmst du
die SP23 nach Castel di Casio
und dann die SP52 nach
Porretta. Von Porretta sowie
von Sambuca P. kann man
Pistoia leicht erreichen.(Von
dort kannst du dich auf den
grünen Verbindungsweg "O"
begeben). Wir schlagen vor,
von Porretta zur SS623 zu
fahren. Vom Passo della
Venturina bringt sie dich zuerst
nach Molino del Pallone und
Pracchia und dann zur SS66
nach Pistoia.
Von Sambuca Pistoiese folgst
du der SS64 Richtung Pistoia.

Domplatz mit dem romanischen
Dom aus weißem und schwarzem
Marmor und dem herrlichen
Glockenturm besichtigen;

und die Paläste des Prätoriums,

Una "marcolfa"
Forse ti potrà capitare, attraversando
l'appennino, di notare su alcuni portali
di vecchie case di montagna curiose
teste in pietra scolpita. Sono le
"marcolfe", figure pagane poste
all'ingresso delle abitazioni con la
funzione di tenere lontani gli spiriti
maligni. La loro origine è preistorica:
le popolazioni locali tagliavano le teste
dei loro nemici per tale scopo. Quando
la macabra usanza non fu più
permessa... si ripiegò sulla pietra!
A "marcolfa"
Maybe you have noticed, as you go
through the Apennines, above the
doors of some old mountain houses,
strange sculptured stone heads. They
are the "marcolfe", pagan figures
passed on from the medieval period
and kept at the front doors to keep
away the evil spirits. They are of prehistorical
origin: the local population
used to cut of their enemies heads
for this use, but when this macabre
habit was no longer allowed ... they
made do with stone heads.

Eine "marcolfa"
Im Apennin kann man an einigen alten
Häusern kuriose, aus Stein gemetzelte
Köpfe bemerken, mit denen die Tore
verziert sind. Es sind die "marcolfe",
Heidenfiguren am Eingang der
Wohnhäuser,um böse Geister
fernzuhalten. Sie sind prähistorischen
Ursprungs: Die örtlichen Bewohner
schlugen dazu früher normalerweise
die Köpfe ihrer Feinde ab. Als dieser

Dal Passo delle Radici puoi
raggiungere Castiglione
Garfagnana lungo la SS324,
considerando una sosta a
Castiglione Garfagnana.
Oppure puoi percorrere la
strada che passa per
S.Pellegrino in Alpe SP71
(provincia di Lucca).
Questa strada (antica via
Vandelli) è più bella, per via
della posizione, soprattutto in
primavera.
Da Castelnuovo Garfagnana
prosegui lungo la SS445
raggiungendo l'antico borgo
di Barga.
Da qui attraverso Gallicano
raggiungi la "Grotta del Vento"
a Fornovolasco. Ritornando
indietro utilizza la strada che
da Fornovolasco ti porta a
Vergemoli. Eventualmente
percorri le strade (20 km circa)
che ti portano prima a
Campolemisi, Fabbriche di
Vallico per poi tornare sulla
strada statale SS445 nei
pressi di Barga.
Puoi anche considerare una
deviazione partendo da
Castelnuovo Garfagnana per
il Lago di Vagli: raggiungi
Poggio seguendo, in direzione
opposta a Lucca, la SS445 e
da lì Vagli di sotto.
Ripercorri la medesima strada
in senso inverso per ritornare
sull'itinerario principale.
Oppure nei pressi della diga
vicino a Vagli di sotto prendi
in direzione Roggio (senza
raggiungerlo). Quindi
Puglianella o Camporgiano per
poi ricongiungerti alla statale.

can get to Castelnuovo
Garfagnana along the SS324,
having a stop at Castiglione
Garfagnana.
Or you may continue along the
road that goes through
S.Pellegrino in Alpe SP71
(province of Lucca). This road
(the ancient “Via Vandelli”) is
much nicer, because of its
position, above all in spring.
From Castelnuovo Garfagnana
continue along the SS445 to
reach the antique hamlet of
Barga.
From here go through
Gallicano to get to the "Grotta
del Vento" at Fornovolasco.
Going back use the road that
from Fornovolasco takes you
to Vergemoli.
You could go along the road
(about 20 km) that takes you
first to Campolemisi,
Fabbriche di Vallico to then
get back onto the trunk-road
SS445 close to Barga.
You could take a deviation
from Castelnuovo Garfagnana
to the Lake of Vagli: reaching
Poggio going in the opposite
direction to Lucca, on the
SS445 and from there to
Vagli di sotto.
Go back on the same road to
get back to the principal
itinerary.
Otherwise near the dam not
far from Vagli di sotto take the
road that goes towards Roggio
(without getting there),
Puglianella or Camporgiano to
then get back on to the trunkroad.
Vom Passo delle Radici kannst
du Castelnuovo Garfagnana
längs der SS324 erreichen -
nach einem Stop in
Castiglione Garfagnana. Oder
du kannst auf der SP71 über
S.Pellegrino in Alpe fahren
(Provinz Lucca).
Diese Straße (die antike Via
Vandelli) ist durch ihre Lage
besonders im Frühling schön.
Von Castelnuovo Garfagnana
fahre auf der SS445 bis zum
antiken Dorf Barga.
Von hier erreichst du über
Gallicano die "Grotta del
Vento" bei Fornovolasco. Auf
dem Rückweg nimm die
Straße von Fornovolasco nach
Vergemoli.
Du könntest auch die Straßen
benutzen, die nach
Campolemisi und Fabbriche
di Vallico und dann bei Barga
wieder auf die SS445 führen
(ca. 20km).
Von Castelnuovo Garfagnana
kannst du auch einen Umweg
nach dem Lago di Vagli
nehmen; dabei fährst auf der
SS445 - in entgegengesetzter
Richtung als nach Lucca - nach
Poggio und weiter nach Vagli
di sotto.
Auf dem Rückweg nimm
dieselbe Straße, um wieder
auf den Hauptweg zu kommen.
Oder fahre bei der Staumauer
in der Nähe von Vagli di sotto
Richtung Roggio (nicht bis
dorthin fahren!), dann über
Puglianella oder Camporgiano,
um wieder auf die
Bundesstrasse zu kommen.

svuotato mostrerà un paese che
attualmente è completamente
sommerso.
Vagli di sotto
Paesino caratteristico e
suggestivo sia per la posizione
prospiciente il lago artificiale
sia per le case in pietra.
Da qui puoi raggiungere Vagli
di sopra, Campocatino
(da non perdere) e alcune
cave di marmo.
Barga
E' dominata dal duomo che si
trova proprio sulla cima del colle
da cui si ha un bel panorama
sulle Alpi Apuane e sull'
Appennino. Accanto al duomo:
il Palazzo Pretorio con vari
stemmi e antiche misure.
Da qui attraverso Gallicano
raggiungi la "Grotta del Vento"
(presso Fornovolasco) nella
quale è possibile scegliere tra
tre itinerari guidati (il terzo è il
S.Pellegrino in Alpe

a S.Pellegrino in Alpe
La via Bibulca, così chiamata per
la sua larghezza tale da
consentire il passaggio di due
buoi affiancati, era una strada
anticamente molto conosciuta.
Dal Medioevo divenne importante
nodo di comunicazione con la
Toscana soprattutto dopo la
costruzione degli ospitali di San
Gemignano (a Piandelagotti-
Frassinoro) e San Pellegrino (a
San Pellegrino in Alpe) dove i
pellegrini esausti potevano
finalmente trovare ristoro.

at S.Pellegrino in Alpe
The via Bibulca, so called for its
width, wide enough to allow two
oxes to pass at the same time,
it was a very well known road in
ancient times.
It has been an important junction
of communication with Toscana
since the medieval period, above
all after the construction of the
hospice of St.Gemignano (at
Piandelagotti-Frassinoro) and St.
Pellegrino (at San Pellegrino in
Alpe) where the exhausted
pilgrims could at last find respite.
Die Bibulcastraße
in S.Pellegrino in Alpe
Die Bibulcastraße heißt wegen
ihrer Breite so: es konnten
nämlich zwei Ochsen
nebeneinander gehen.
In der Antike war diese Straße
sehr bekannt. Im Mittelalter
wurde sie ein wichtiger
Komunikationsknoten mit der
Toskana, vor allem nach dem
Bau der Hospizen San
Gemignano (in Piandelagotti-
Frassinoro) und San Pellegrino
(in San Pellegrino in Alpe), in
denen die Pilger endlich eine
Ruhepause einlegen konnten.

porterà fino a Lucca.
Presentano degli insoliti
campanili merlati.
Le chiesette fatte con la
povera ma consistente
pietra e, cosa ben diversa,
le antiche ville che i signori
di Lucca si fecero costruire
non lontano dalla città.

hamlets sheltered at the
side of the road that takes
you to Lucca.
They have very unusual
crenellated bell towers.
The churches are made
with the poor but strong
stone and, very different,
the antique houses that
the Signori of Lucca had
built for themselves not
far from the city.

dieser Strecke sind auch
die kleinen Dörfchen an
beiden Straßenseiten; du
bleibst auf diesem Weg bis
Lucca und siehst die
ungewöhnlichen,
zinnengekrönten
Glockentürme. Die Kirchen
sind mit einfachen aber
dicken Steinen gebaut.
Etwas ganz anderes sind
die antiken Villen, die sich
die Herrschaften von Lucca
nicht weit von der Stadt
entfernt bauen ließen.

Dopo il passo dell'Abetone
prendi a destra per Pian degli
Ontani. E' la strada parallela
alla SS12.
(Per chi vuole sgranchirsi le
gambe sulla destra si notano i
cartelli per i "Ruderi di Popiglio"
- torri altomedievali).
Al bivio potrai scendere per
ricongiungerti alla SS12,
oppure svoltando a destra e
proseguendo in salita lungo la
SP20 per rientrare sempre sulla
medesima SS12 più a valle.
Ricongiungendoti sulla statale
svolta a destra verso Lucca per
raggiungere Popiglio.
A sinistra, svoltando in direzione
della cava, si raggiunge
Lucchio, visibile in alto quasi
fosse stato attaccato alla
montagna. Tornando sulla solita
SS12 e dopo aver costeggiato
per un po' il torrente alla propria
sinistra, gira a destra per Vico
Pancellorum. Poco prima di
entrare in paese vi è sulla
destra una bella chiesetta
romanica (S.Paolo, sec. XI) con
campanile merlato.
Prosegui per Vico Alto voltando
a sinistra dopo il bivio della
chiesa (presta attenzione alla
strada che al momento della
stampa di questa guida
presentava alcune "brutte
buche"). Non farti però
spaventare perché il paese è
veramente carino con la strada
in mattoni che si snoda
all'interno del piccolissimo
borgo (un'auto potrebbe
rimanervi incastrata!).
Tornato sulla SS12 vai a destra
direzione Lucca. Dopo circa 400
metri presta attenzione alla
freccia blu alla tua sinistra per
Casoli. Si attraversa un bel

A road that is parallel with the
SS12. (Should you want to
stretch your legs on the right
you can see a sign for the
ruins of Popiglio ("Ruderi di
Popiglio" - towers of the early
Middle Ages).
At the fork in the road you can
go back down to the SS12, or
maybe turn right up hill to
rejoin the same road further
down the valley. When you get
back to the SS12 turn right
towards Lucca to return to
Popiglio.
To the left turn towards the
quarry, you get to Lucchio; it
is visible above you as if it
had been stuck on to the
mountain. Going back onto
the usual SS12 and after
having run alongside the river
on your left for a bit, turn right
for Vico Pancellorum.
Just before entering the town
on your right there is a pretty
little Romanesque church
(S.Paolo, XI cent.) with a
crenellated bell-tower.
Carry on for Vico Alto turning
left after the fork at the church
(be careful of this road
because when this guide was
printed there were some nasty
holes in it). Don't let this
frighten you off though
because the village is really
nice with a brick road that
winds through a tiny hamlet
(a car could get jammed in
there!).
Back on the SS12 go right
towards Lucca. After about
400 metre look out for the
blue arrow sign to your left for
Casoli. Go across a nice

nimm rechts die Straße nach
Pian degli Ontani, die parallel
zur SS12 verläuft. (Wer sich
die Beine vertreten will,
beachte rechts die Schilder zu
den "Ruderi di Popiglio"-
frühmittelalterliche Türme).
An der Abzweigung kann man
bergab auf die SS12 fahren
oder rechts abbiegen, um auf
der SP20 weiter bergauf zu
fahren und später auf die SS12
zu gelangen.
Auf der Bundesstrasse fahre
nach rechts Richtung Lucca bis
Popiglio.
Nach links, Richtung Steinbruch,
erreichst du Lucchio, das du
hoch oben wie an den Berg
"angeklebt" siehst. Du kehrst
dann auf die SS12 zurück.
Nachdem du ein wenig auf der
rechten Seite eines Flusses
entlanggefahren bist, biege
rechts nach Vico Pancellorum
ab. Kurz vor dem Ort liegt rechts
eine schöne romanische Kirche
(S. Paolo, 11. Jahrh.) mit
zinnengekröntem Glockenturm.
Nach der Abzweigung der Kirche
biege links nach Vico Alto ab
(Vorsicht! Beim Druck dieses
Reiseführers hatte die Straße
noch einige "tiefe Löcher").
Lass dich nicht erschrecken -
das Dorf ist wirklich hübsch mit
einer Ziegelsteinstraße, die sich
durch diesen winzigen Ort
windet. (Ein Auto könnte
stecken bleiben).
Zurück auf der SS12 fahre nach
rechts Richtung Lucca. Nach
circa 400 m beachte links den
blauen Pfeil nach Casoli. Es
geht über eine sehr schöne
Brücke, der Weg ist kurz und
bergauf. Von Casoli hat man

ponte, la strada è breve ed in
salita. Termina a Casoli da dove
si può apprezzare una bella
vista sui monti e sui paesini
arroccati (di fronte a te Limano).
Proseguendo nuovamente verso
Lucca, nuova deviazione a
destra per Limano. Dalla
piazzetta dove vi è una bella
fontana prendi a piedi la strada
in salita, proprio di fronte alla
fontana. Raggiungerai un'altra
chiesetta ovviamente anch'essa
caratterizzata dal singolare e
caratteristico campanile.
Anche qui le case in pietra non
mancano.
Ridiscendi proseguendo
nuovamente per Lucca e
considera altre due deviazioni:
Cocciglia e Pelleggio.
Raggiungi Lucca (SS12)
incontrando il "Ponte della
Maddalena” o "Ponte del
Diavolo" a Borgo a Mozzano
dove hai la possibilità di
sfruttare l' itinerario verde di
collegamento "M".
Considera una possibile
deviazione a Bagni di Lucca (7
km prima di Borgo a Mozzano).
Presta attenzione alla seguente
segnalazione:
Pochi chilometri dopo il cartello
"Bagni di Lucca" sulla sinistra
(di fronte ad un'officina FIAT)
prendi la svolta che indica
"Benabbio" e prosegui fino a
Villa Basilica.
Da qui guarda la sezione
itinerario verde di collegamento
"N" oppure prosegui per Marlia,
Segromigno e Camigliano
visitando tre delle famose ville
della zona. Raggiungi quindi
Lucca itinerario verde di
collegamento "O".

uphill. Stop at Casoli from
where you can enjoy a lovely
view of mountains and of tiny
villages that nestle there (in
front of you is Limano).
Continue again towards Lucca,
another deviation to the right
for Limano. From the little
square where there is a nice
fountain, go by foot up the
road, right in front of the
fountain. You will reach
another little church, obviously
this too has its own particular
bell-tower. Here too there is
no lack of stone houses.
Going downhill and again
towards Lucca look out for two
more deviations for Cocciglia
and Pelleggio.
Reaching Lucca (SS12) finding
"Ponte della Maddalena or
"Ponte del Diavolo" at Borgo
a Mozzano. From Borgo to
Mozzano you have the
possibility to use green link
itinerary "M". Take into
consideration a detour to
Bagni di Lucca (7 km before
Borgo a Mozzano). Pay
attention to the following
signs: a few kilometres after
the sign "Bagni di Lucca" on
the left (in front of a FIAT
garage) take the turn off for
"Benabbio" and continue till
Villa Basilica.
From there look at the green
link itinerary "N" or go ahead
to Marlia, Segromigno and
Camigliano to visit three
famous mansions of the area.
Getting back to Lucca on the
green link route "O".
eine schöne Aussicht auf die
Berge und kleine Bergdörfer
(gegenüber liegt Limano).
Wiederum Richtung Lucca bis
zur neuen Abzweigung nach
rechts nach Limano. Vom
kleinen Marktplatz mit einem
schönen Brunnen aus gehe zu
Fuss die kleine Strasse hinauf,
die sich genau vor dem Brunnen
befindet. Du kommst zu einer
anderen Kirche - natürlich hat
auch diese den typischen
Glockenturm. Auch fehlen die
Steinhäuser nicht.
Wieder bergab Richtung Lucca
ziehe weitere zwei
Abzweigungen in Betracht:
Cocciglia und Pelleggio.
Fährst du auf der SS12 nach
Lucca, triffst du in Borgo
a Mozzano auf die
Maddalenabrücke oder
"Ponte del Diavolo"
(Teufelsbrücke). In dem Ort hast

Ponte del Diavolo
La leggenda narra che il Ponte della Maddalena, detto "del Diavolo",
fu costruito appunto dal demonio. Poiché i cittadini non riuscivano a
terminare l'ardita costruzione, il demonio si offrì di portarla a termine
se, una volta terminato, avesse potuto prendere l'anima del primo ad
attraversare tale ponte. I cittadini accettarono e, appena il ponte fu
ultimato, lo fecero attraversare...da un cane!
Ponte del Diavolo
The story goes that Ponte della Maddalena, called "del Diavolo", was
built by the devil. Because the citizens could not conclude the audacious
construction, the devil offered to finish it for them if, once it was
finished, he could have the soul of the first to cross it. The citizens
agreed and then, as soon as it was finished, they sent a dog across
the bridge!
Ponte del Diavolo
Die Legende besagt, dass die Brücke "Ponte della Maddalena", "del
Diavolo" genannt, vom Teufel gebaut worden ist. Da die Bürger den
gewagten Bau nicht fertigstellen konnten, bot sich der Teufel an, ihn
zu vollenden. Preis dafür war die Seele desjenigen, der jene Brücke
als erster überquert. Die Bürger akzeptierten den Pakt, und sowie die
Brücke fertiggestellt war, ließen sie sie von ... einem Hund überqueren!

Dal Passo dell’Abetone dopo
circa 10 km prendi per
Piansinatico. Si sale per le
stradine raggiungendo
Cutigliano. Da qui ci si
reinserisce sulla strada SS12
(quella utilizzata alla partenza)
direzione Pistoia. Lungo questa
strada incontrerai un itinerario
verde di collegamento "P" che
passa per Lizzano Pistoiese.
Se non scegli l'itinerario di
collegamento, ma rimani sulla
strada principale, raggiungerai
un incrocio da cui proseguire
per Piteglio SS633.
Puoi svoltare per visitare il
paesino.
Per i fuoristrada: in paese, al
bivio anziché prendere per
l'Abetone, prendi a sinistra
imboccando la strada indicata
come strada chiusa. Sbucherai
proprio di fronte ad un
bar-ristorante vicino a
Casadimonte, ritornando
sull'itinerario principale.
Ritornato sulla strada 633
prosegui attraversando
Prataccio, Prunetta, Margine
di Momigno per giungere a
Femminamorta. Da qui
attraverso la bella SP38
raggiungerai prima Crespole e
tramite la SP34 Lanciole.
A Lanciole presta molta
attenzione alla deviazione alla
tua destra per Pontito. La
strada è molto bella e nel
susseguirsi di curve appaiono
inaspettati i paesini con le loro
torri medievali. Molto carino e
degno di nota è Stiappa.
Prosegui ora (al bivio a sinistra)
per Castelveccchio prendendo
per Ponte di Castelvecchio
About 10 km after Passo
dell’Abetone take the road for
Piansinatico. You climb up a
little road to get to Cutigliano.
From there you rejoin the
SS12 (the one you started
from) going towards Pistoia.
Along this road you meet up
with the green link route "P"
that goes past Lizzano
Pistoiese.
If you don't choose a link road
but stay on the same road you
get to a crossroad from where
you can get to Piteglio SS633.
You could turn off to visit the
town.
For cross-bikes : in the village,
at the fork instead of taking
the road to Abetone, take the
left road indicated as a culde-sac.
You will come out just
in front of a bar-restaurant
near to Casadimonte, then
you go back onto the main
road.
Back on the SS633 continue
through Prataccio, Prunetta
and Margine di Momigno to
reach Femminamorta. From
there along the beautiful SP38
first you find Crespole and
along the SP34 Lanciole.
At Lanciole pay attention to
the deviation on the right for
Pontito. The road is particularly
nice with its winding curves
revealing unexpected hamlets
each with its medieval tower.
Very pretty and worth noticing
is Stiappa. Now continue
(the left-hand fork) for
Castelvecchio going towards
Ponte di Castelvecchio. Plan
a detour to Sorana. Having
seen the little hamlet go on
10 km nach dem Abetone
Pass fährst du Richtung
Piansinatico. Bergauf geht es
nach Cutigliano. Weiter auf der
SS12 (die bei der Abfahrt
benutzt wurde) Richtung Pistoia.
Auf dieser Straße triffst du auf
die grüne Verbindungsstraße
"P", die durch Lizzano Pistoiese
führt. Wenn du nicht die
Verbindungsstraße nutzen
willst, erreichst du auf der
Hauptstraße eine Kreuzung, von
der du auf der SS633 nach
Piteglio fährst.
Du kannst abbiegen, um das
Dorf zu besichtigen.
Für Geländemotorräder: anstatt
an der Abzweigung im Dorf nach
Abetone zu fahren, biegst du
nach links in die als Sackgasse
beschilderte Strasse ein. Diese
endet genau gegenüber einem
Restaurant-Bar in der Nähe von
Casadimonte, von wo aus du
wieder auf die Hauptstrecke
kommst.
Wieder auf der 633 fahre weiter
durch Prataccio, Prunetta,
Margine di Momigno, um
Femminamorta zu erreichen.
Von hier fährst du auf der
schönen SP38 nach Crespole
und dann auf der SP34 nach
Lanciole.
In Lanciole beachte die
Abzweigung nach rechts nach
Pontito. Die Straße ist
wunderschön und hinter den
aufeinanderfolgenden Kurven
erscheinen oft unerwartet
Dörfer mit ihren mittelalterlichen
Türmen. Unbedingt zu beachten
ist Stiappa. Fahre weiter (an
der Abzweigung nach links) nach
Castelvecchio und dann nach

a Sorana. Visitato il piccolo
borgo prosegui e raggiungerai
Ponte di Sorana nei cui pressi,
all'incrocio svolterai a destra
per Pescia. Passato Calamari
presta molta attenzione
all'incrocio che incontrerai.
Svolta a sinistra proseguendo
in salita direzione Vellano.
Il borgo è molto carino, da qui
prosegui per la bella strada
fino a giungere a Macchino.
Presta attenzione: devi
proseguire per Montecatini
(SP31) passando per Cozzile
e Massa. Raggiunta
Montecatini segui le indicazioni
per Montecatini Alta. Finita la
visita anziché percorrere la
stessa strada di prima, svolta
per Serravalle Pistoiese
(direzione Pistoia) passando
per Nievole e tenendo sempre
per Pistoia. Serravalle vale una
sosta.
Prendi per Monsummano
Terme, da cui si può
raggiungere Monsummano
Alta, e poi prosegui in direzione
Fucecchio per poi svoltare per
Montevettolini che si vede in
cima ad un colle. Continua in
direzione Pistoia passando per
Cantagrillo e Casalguidi fino a
trovare le indicazioni per Vinci:
a destra, cartello blu per strada
normale; a sinistra cartello
marrone per strada
panoramica SP13. Prima di
entrare a Vinci svolta a sinistra
per Anchiano (cartello
marrone). Segui le indicazioni
per "Casa natale di Leonardo
da Vinci". Proseguendo
raggiungerai Vinci.

careful at the crossroad you
find: turn left going up hill
towards Vellano.
The hamlet is very pretty, from
here continue along a lovely
road till you get to Macchino.
Watch out here as you must
go on to Montecatini (SP31)
going past Cozzile and Massa.
On reaching Montecatini follow
the signs for Montecatini Alta.
When you have seen that
instead of going along the
same road turn off for
Serravalle Pistoiese (towards
Pistoia) passing Nievole and
carrying on for Pistoia.
Serravalle merits a stop.
Go for Monsummano Terme,
from where you can get to
Monsummano Alta, and then
go towards Fucecchio to then
turn off for Montevettolini
that you can see on the top
of the hill.
Continue in the direction of
Pistoia passing Cantagrillo and
Casalguidi until you find
indications for Vinci: at the
right, a blue sign for normal
road; at the left a brown sign
for the panoramic road SP13.
Before going into Vinci turn
left for Anchiano (brown sign)
follow the indications for
"Casa natale di Leonardo da
Vinci"(his birth place).
Go ahead for Vinci.
Ponte di Castelvecchio. Ein
Abstecher nach Sorana lohnt
sich. Nach der Besichtigung des
kleinen Ortes fahre nach Ponte
di Sorana; an der Kreuzung
biege rechts nach Pescia ab.
Hinter Calamari passe gut an
der Kreuzung auf. Du musst
nach links bergauf Richtung
Vellano fahren. Der Ort ist sehr
hübsch! Und weiter geht es auf
schöner Straße nach Macchino.
Achtung! Hier musst du weiter
nach Montecatini (SP31) über
Cozzile und Massa fahren. In
Montecatini folge den Schildern
nach Montecatini Alta. Nach
dem Besuch fahre nicht
dieselbe Straße zurück, sondern
biege nach Serravalle Pistoiese
(Richtung Pistoia) ab, wo sich
ein Stop lohnt. Fahre über
Nievole immer in Richtung
Pistoia nach Monsummano
Terme, von dort kannst du
Monsummano Alta erreichen
und dann Richtung Fucecchio
weiterfahren. Biege nach
Montevettolini ab, das auf der
Spitze eines Hügels liegt. Immer
Richtung Pistoia fährst du über
Cantagrillo und Casalguidi und
findest dann die Hinweise nach
Vinci: Rechts - auf blauem
Schild - führt die normale
Strasse, links - auf braunem
Schild -die Panoramastraße
SP13. Bevor du nach Vinci
hineinfährst, biege links nach
Anchiano (braunes Schild) ab
und folge den Hinweisen zur
„Casa natale di Leonardo da

Dorfes. Die kleine Kirche und den
Glockenturm erreicht man über
