The Bean Bag
A newsletter to promote communication among research scientists concerned with
the systematics of the Leguminosae/Fabaceae
Number 50 February 2003
From the Editor
Barbara Mackinder
The Bean Bag is designed to promote communication among research scientists concerned with legume systematics.
To achieve this goal The Bean Bag is issued each year and features six columns: From the Editor, News (meetings, major
events, announcements, etc.), Latin American Legume Report, Nodulation and Nitrogen Fixation (nothing to report this year
after last years extensive contributions), Gleanings, and Recent Legume Literature. Data in the Gleanings column are derived
from questionnaire sheets which Readers complete and return. If you have news about legume systematics, send it to us for
this column. The Recent Legume Literature column contains published research papers of specific interest to Bean Bag
Readers and is derived from Readers contributions in conjunction with references from The Kew Record (Kew’s current
awareness list of taxonomic literature). Recent is defined as up to 18 months old. Specific interest to Bean Bag Readers is
defined as research papers of interest to a worldwide group of legume systematic botanists.
Bean Bag Readers are encouraged to send notices, observations, etc.
Directory update: As this is a slender issue, a copy of The Bean Bag Directory of readers has been appended. Each
entry comprises reader’s name, address and where submitted email address and area(s) of interest. Please check your entry. If
you wish to update your entry please contact the editor (preferably by email: B.mackinder@rbgkew.org.uk). It would be
desirable to have at least one entry under “special interest” for every reader. Also, if you are aware that someone no longer
working with legumes is included in the directory, please let the editor know so that the directory can be updated accordingly.
Addresses of libaries who take The Bean Bag for their shelves have not been included in the appended directory.
The Bean Bag can be delivered to readers via e-mail. If you wish to have your copies e-mailed to you, please send an
email message to the editor (email: B.mackinder@rbgkew.org.uk). Will new readers please provide their title, first and last
names, full postal address and area(s) of interest.
Temario de la V Reunión:
Obituario: Rupert Barneby (1911-2000)
Buck, 2001. An annotated list of the publications of Rupert
Barneby. Brittonia 53: 41-57.).
No
Krukoff
(Erythrina), H. S. Irwin (The American Cassiinae) y James Grimes (Acacieae e Ingeae).
Legumes, They choose you, I don´t think I choose them” (The New York Times, 1992).
Resumen de la IV Conferencia Internacional de Leguminosas (The Fourth International Legume Conference), 2-6 de julio de
2001, Canberra, A.C.T., Australia:

Catalogue of the Vascular Plants of
Ecuador, Monographs in Systematic Botany from the Missouri Botanical Garden 75: 368-374, 468-484, 591-601). Asimismo
& O. Morrone, 1999. Catálogo de las Plantas Vasculares de
la Argentina II: Fabaceae-Zygophyllaceae (Dicotyledoneae). Monographs in Systematic Botanic from the Missouri Botanical
Garden 74: 623-744. Missouri Botanical Garden Press, St. Louis, USA.).
Darwinion (IBODA).
