Die Abteilungen A und B dieser Reihe bringen ausschließlich neue Lexika, Indizes,
Konkordanzen und statistische Hilfsmittel zur Klassischen und Mittellateinischen
Philologie. Solche Hilfsmittel sind unerläßlich, um Wortwahl und
Wortgebrauch einzelner Autoren wie literarischer Genera zu erkennen, um ihre
Syntax und Stilistik zu untersuchen und um die besondere Sprachstruktur bestimmter
Werke zu analysieren.
Obwohl sich die Hilfsmittel den Anforderungen ihrer Objekte jeweils nach der
Forschungslage anpassen müssen, stimmen sie doch alle in den wesentlichen
Zielsetzungen überein: Durchweg werden nicht nur die maßgeblichen textkritischen
Ausgaben zugrunde gelegt, sondern auch Varianten und Konjekturen
in sinnvollem Umfange berücksichtigt, so daß die Hilfsmittel neben allen
anderen brauchbaren Ausgaben ebenfalls benutzt werden können. Bei der Aufnahme
der Lemmata und Belegstellen wird in der Regel Vollständigkeit angestrebt
und von diesem Prinzip wird nur abgewichen, wo es wegen der Masse
der Belegstellen unumgänglich und sinnvoll scheint. Die Bände entsprechen
dem heutigen Stand lexikographischer und semasiologischer Forschung. Auf
übersichtliche Gliederung der Lemmata wird allenthalben geachtet, Querverweise
und Hinweise auf Synonyma und Komposita sollen insbesondere bei den
Lexika dem Benutzer hilfreich sein.
The series A and B present exclusively new dictionaries, indices, concordances
and statistical studies on Classical and Medieval Latin philology. Such aids are
indispensable for the discovery of word choice and word usage of individual
authors as well as literary genres, the study of their syntax and style and the
analysis of the specific linguistic structure of certain works.
Although such aids have to answer to the requirements of their objects’ present
state of research, they all share essential objectivities: they not only take as
their basis the authoritative critical editions, but also take into consideration to
a reasonable extent variants and conjectures, so that these aids can be used
alongside of all other usable editions. In recording lemms and occurrences,
completeness is usually aimed at, and departure from this principle allowed
only where the mass of occurrences makes it appear unavoidable or reasonable.
The volumes reflect the present state of lexicographical and semasiological
research. Clear arrangement of lemms is always aimed at, and the cross
references and references to synonyms and compounds are especially helpful to
the user of the dictionaries.
