Fitness & BWST
• BWST minimizes the delay during which gait training
can be initiated since patients are provided with the
BWST needed to begin walking very early in
rehabilitation process
• In hip arthroplasty patients BWST offers a task-specific
repetitive approach that enables the practice of
numerous complex gait cycle; treadmill patients tend to
take many more steps on the treadmill
• To increase fitness in elderly patients, continual,
moderate activity for 15 to 30 minutes at least 3 days
per week is required. The average speed attained on
treadmill is double that recorded when subjects are
measured walking at their comfortable speed (aerobic
effect)
