consentendo così la progettazione <strong>di</strong> nuovi composti da impiegare in elettroforesi capillare comeselettori chirali.In questo contesto le conoscenze già acquisite su alcuni leganti ciclodestrinici hannopermesso l’utilizzo dei complessi binari <strong>di</strong> ciclodestrine funzionalizzate con il rame(II), comeselettori chirali in elettroforesi capillare, allo scopo <strong>di</strong> separare sostanze <strong>di</strong> interesse farmaceuticoe/o ambientale. Inoltre, allo scopo <strong>di</strong> poter <strong>di</strong>sporre <strong>di</strong> selettori puri, sono state sintetizzate dellenuove ciclodestrine funzionalizzate con catene <strong>di</strong> trealosio all’upper rim, e ne sono state testate leloro capacità nella risoluzione <strong>di</strong> sistemi enantiomerici.Oltre all’attività <strong>di</strong> ricerca documentata dalle pubblicazioni, <strong>Giuseppe</strong> <strong>Maccarrone</strong>,nell’ambito delle attività <strong>di</strong> ricerca applicata, che fanno riferimento alle nuove strategie dell’ateneo<strong>di</strong> apertura verso i problemi del territorio, ha partecipato al progetto “Mercurio” finanziatodall’ENICHEM. Tale progetto, all’interno dello sforzo volto a ridurre l’impatto ambientaledell’industria chimica, è stato sviluppato al fine <strong>di</strong> ottimizzare l’abbattimento del mercurio sottoforma <strong>di</strong> solfuro nell’impianto cloro-soda. Inoltre, un ulteriore aspetto del progetto è stato quello <strong>di</strong>ricercare nuove meto<strong>di</strong>che per il recupero del mercurio dai fanghi ottenuti proprio a seguito dellasua precipitazione sotto forma <strong>di</strong> solfuro.
