Founded in 1978, its workshop in Devizes, Wiltshire, has long been one of the jewels of British artisanship, a place where master craftsmen create one-off furnishings that are as uncompromising in their quality as they are in their striking appearance. Now, the brand is opening an extraordinary 1,400sq m London showroom, where clients can get up close and personal with Smallbone’s designs and designers. The expansive four-storey space in Brompton Gate, a few steps down the road from Harrods, will open this autumn after more than £15 million of renovations to the cityblock-wide space – including not only an outsized array of extraordinary kitchens, but also an art gallery, full bar (pictured above), private event space and a six-metre Samsung screen to allow for in-depth virtual experiences. It is “a totally redefined and reimagined retail environment”, says Ron Shemesh, the chief value creation officer of Lux Group Holdings, Smallbone’s parent company. “We invite our clients to experience immersive curated luxury at the showroom; our carefully selected partner brands feature throughout – from art to innovative home technology,” he continues. “Everything you see and touch can be purchased.” It is a bold and welcome approach, with a global audience in mind, that gives the kitchen the grand retail space it deserves. smallbone.co.uk CENTURION-MAGAZINE.COM 39
