ART & DESIGN ON VIEW

ART & DESIGN ON VIEW CULTURAL ATTACHE A shortlist of noteworthy exhibitions and art-centred events around the globe. Reopening on 25 October, the 133rd anniversary of the artist’s birth, the museum’s collection comprises more than 5,000 works, the largest of its kind in the world (museepicassoparis.fr). Ten minutes to the west, the Centre Pompidou will stage the first European retrospective for deconstructivist architect Frank Gehry (8 Oct–5 Jan; centrepompidou.fr). The career of fellow North American Garry Winogrand, one of the great chroniclers of the 20th century, is also the beneficiary of re-examination, this one at the Jeu de Paume (14 Oct–8 Feb; jeudepaume.org). The Grand Palais hosts yet another retrospective, the largest one in decades dedicated to the whimsical yet often pointedly political sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle (17 Sep–2 Feb; grandpalais.fr), as well as a 500-work-strong show of paintings by Japanese master of the waves Hokusai (1 Oct–18 Jan). Across the street, meanwhile, at the Petit Palais, Baccarat celebrates its 250th anniversary with a display of more than 450 masterpieces in crystal (15 Oct–4 Jan; petitpalais.paris.fr).
