TRADE TALK CONTINUED

TRADE TALK CONTINUED PITTSBURGH, PA—The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association has published a new case study that details the use of Cypress at the new Live Oak Bank headquarters in Wilmington, NC. The 36,000-square-foot building features Cypress as exterior siding and soffits, as well as interior ceilings and custom millwork. Architect Laura Miller, principal at LS3P Architects in Wilmington, said, “Cypress was the perfect solution, not only due to its local availability, but also its natural durability and beautiful aesthetic qualities. Ultimately, we were able to use traditional building materials in a modern way, while optimizing views and day lighting. The result is spectacular.” The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of Cypress building products to trade professionals and consumers. WHITE PIGEON, MI—Banks Hardwoods, Inc. recently added seven new conventional dry kilns here at their production facility. Manufactured by Kiln Drying Systems and Components, Inc. (KDS), the new kilns are smaller at 30,000 board feet each. “The new kilns will afford greater flexibility in drying thick stock and subspecies,” explained company President Spencer Lutz. “One air shed was moved to make room for the new kilns, and three new air sheds were built to increase air-drying storage capacity. In addition, the green chain was expanded to afford more sorts of green lumber.” Banks Hardwoods, Inc. is a manufacturer of fine Northern Hardwood lumber with three production facilities located in Michigan and Wisconsin.
