Salina Planing Mill is a manufacturer of custom architectural woodwork and commercial casework, purchasing approximately 300,000 board feet annually of Cherry, White Maple, Red and White Oak and Walnut (Select, 4/4 through 10/4, typically kilndried to 6-8 percent moisture). Salina Planing Mill buys certified wood in varying amounts, as well as some Mahogany. Purchasing for the company is handled by Dunning. Dunning has worked at Salina Planing Mill for 17 years, the past six as president. His first job in the industry was in 1984 as a production worker. A graduate of Halstead High School, Halstead, KS, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. The company is a member of the American Subcontractor Association, as well as holding quality certification from the Architectural Woodwork Institute, and chain of custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council. JONAS H. ESH is general manager and partner of Country Value Woodworks, located in New Providence, PA. Country Value Woodworks is a manufacturer of Hardwood furniture, including bedroom, dining room and occasional furniture, purchasing more than 400,000 board feet of lumber per year in Red Oak, Soft Maple and quarter-sawn White Oak, with grades and cuts including FAS and No. 1 Common, 4/4 and 8/4. Along with day-to-day operations, Esh’s responsibilities include purchasing lumber. The company was founded in 1990 on Esh’s family farm as a manufacturer of Mission Style brand furniture. Using a lean technology principle, Country Value Woodworks offers the ability to build all furniture to order in a variety of species, stains and customization options. Normal lead times are two to three weeks. Country Value Woodworks is a member of the Wood Products Manufacturing Association, and Esh is a member of the PA Furniture Builders Group. Inc., located in Bristol, VA. Virginia Woodworking manufactures residential stair parts, including treads, risers, hand railing, fittings and turnings. Lancer Inc. purchases 125,000 board feet of Hardwood lumber per year for the manufacture of upholstered furniture, including recliners, sleeper sofas and sectionals, utilizing Red and White Oak. Ash and Maple are the primary species handled by the company. Grades include FAS, No. 1 and 2 Common, WHND, 4/4, 5/4, and 8/4, KD, and S2S. Ingle has held his present position as vice president for 26 years, with duties ranging from purchasing to supply chain management and logistics. Ingle earned his doctoral degree in education from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. In 2012 he also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro located in Greensboro, NC. Lancer is a member of the United States Chamber of Commerce. The company has received several industry awards, including the Dow Chemical Ultracell Innovation Award, and was recognized by Upholstered Furniture Design Magazine as an innovator in automation and advanced furniture production processes.
