MEMPHIS, TN—The Hardwood Forest Foundation has been nominated for the State of Tennessee Governor’s 56 JUNE 2014 ■ NATIONAL HARDWOOD MAGAZINE

Environmental Stewardship Award by the Memphis-Shelby County Office of Sustainability. The nominations in the Educational Outreach category is the result of the Foundation’s video production of its flagship program, Truth About Trees, as well as the outreach program provided within Shelby County, TN. “Our office is impressed with the Foundation’s Truth About Trees program and it was a privilege to nominate it for the Governor’s Environmental Stewardship Award. The high quality of the Foundation’s educational curriculum deserves to be recognized with the highest honor our State provides,” said Paul A. Young, administrator for Memphis-Shelby County Office of Sustainability. Designed to teach children about harvesting as a means of keeping forests healthy and obtaining all of the necessary items we use in our everyday lives, Truth About Trees is showcased annually throughout Shelby County in a series of tree plantings and educational presentations, in conjunction with Lumbermen’s Club of Memphis, Moregreen Nursery and National Hardwood Lumber Association. In addition, the Foundation, its Emmy-Nominated Spokesperson Tommy MacDonald and Memphis-based Running Pony Productions recently produced the curriculum in video format. Approximately 80 percent of the video was filmed in West Tennessee. “To be nominated for the most prestigious environmental and conservation award in the State of Tennessee is huge for the Foundation and its educational efforts,” MacDonald said. “We work tirelessly to teach children about the good the forest products industry does and to be recognized in this manner only exemplifies the excellence the curriculum provides in educational outlets.” Founded in 1989, the Foundation, a 501c3 organization, has been involved in a variety of educational programs and activities throughout the United States and Canada. Since its creation, National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) has supported its efforts and hosted its office in the NHLA headquarters, located in Memphis. ■ (Left to Right): Mickey Moore, retired; Nathan Hascher and Joe Hyrka, Atlanta Hardwood Corp., Atlanta, GA; Mark Barford, NHLA, Memphis, TN; and Crystal Oldham, Hardwood Forest Foundation, Memphis, TN Josey Lumber Company, Inc. is celebrating over 30 years in the Hardwood lumber business!
