AHEC REPORT Continued

AHEC REPORT Continued •Trade Shows: Every year, AHEC exhibits at more than 20 regional and national trade shows around the world, from events in the Middle East, India, Brazil and Vietnam to more established shows throughout Europe, Korea, Japan, China, and Mexico. AHEC members are always welcome to use the AHEC stand as a base of operations for attending these shows, and AHEC overseas staff can assist members with registration information and accommodations. •U.S. Hardwood Public Relations Campaign: Reaching more than 28 million people in 24 countries, AHEC’s worldwide public relations campaigns target overseas specifiers, consumers, and importers, promoting U.S. Hardwoods and Hardwood products. In a given year, more than 750 AHEC advertisements, press releases and feature articles highlighting the quality, variety and sustainability of the U.S. Hardwood resource are published in newspapers, magazines and trade journals worldwide. Several times per year, AHEC publishes membership lists in major overseas publications that target buyers and end users of Hardwood. AHEC maintains offices in Japan, Europe, Dubai, China, and Mexico, in addition to our Sterling, VA, headquarters. If you would like additional information on our overseas promotional programs for U.S. Hardwoods, please contact Tripp Pryor at tpryor@ahec.org or by phone at (703) 435-2900. Detailed information can also be found on our websites at www.ahec.org and www.american hardwood.org. n NWFA REVIEW Continued from page 22 in hands-on learning, and tour the trade show floor to see what our industry is all about while meeting potential employers. Manufacturers will have an opportunity to meet with distributors from a variety of regional markets to promote their products and expand their product reach during the Manufacturer & Distributor Reception, co-hosted by the National Association of Floor Covering Distributors (NAFCD). This event provides a private place, off the show floor, to build new business relationships and expand existing ones as well. Those just starting their careers are invited to attend the Emerging Leaders Reception. Here, bright minds under the age of 40 can meet face-to-face and build their professional network in a relaxed and festive atmosphere. Because the NWFA wants everyone to have fun off the show floor as well, it will be offering a New Orleans Ghost Tour. Expert guides will share information about the most haunted city in America, highlighting some of the places where paranormal activity is a daily event. From the LaLaurie Mansion to numerous locations throughout the French Quarter, prepare to be both terrified and thrilled by eerie presences still lying in wait around every corner. For Hardwood purchasers and suppliers, the NWFA Expo offers a unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with the largest gathering of wood flooring professionals anywhere, all under one roof, all within a few days, and all across the supply chain. It is one of the most-efficient and cost-effective ways to increase your industry contacts, so make plans today to exhibit and showcase your products, or to attend and meet a highly targeted hardwood audience. Registration is open, and hotel rooms are filling fast. Learn more at www.nwfaexpo. org. The National Wood Flooring Association is a notfor-profit trade organization, with more than 3,000 member companies world-wide, dedicated to educating consumers, architects, designers, specifiers, and builders in the uses and benefits of wood flooring. The NWFA is located at 14 Research Park Drive, St. Charles, MO 63304, and can be contacted at 800-422-4556 (USA & Canada), 636.519.9663 (local and international), or at www.nwfa.org. n MARS HILL JUNE 2014_Layout 1 5/19/14 2:24 PM Page 1 NHLA: Why Knot?... Continued from page 24 on cataloging and compiling the PCR and EPD data for you. AWC is working with the Hardwood Federation (HF), National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA), Decorative Hardwood Association (DHA), and NHLA to compile the data from mills for Hardwood production throughout the USA. Once complete, you can input the carbon impacts of your operations into a secure website where it will be amalgamated with the rest of the industry to show our impact. You can then use that information to create company specific EPDs for your lumber. With the lowest carbon footprint material, Hardwood has a compelling super-sustainability story that emphasizes natural growth, carbon sequestration, and responsible end-of-life practices. If you don’t participate in gathering your data and submitting it, you are going to miss out on influencing policy, climate change, and, as I have emphasized before, forest change. Everyone in the Hardwood lumber business needs to submit answers and show we are the best story. Why not reach out to your association to add your data and participate in telling our super sustainable story? n Wood: The Natural Choice Stay on track: www.rta.org or Contact Mars Hill, Inc. at (866) 629-9089 for obtaining the best looking White Poplar you’ve ever seen.
