NHLA NEWS MEMBERSHIP HAS

NHLA NEWS MEMBERSHIP HAS ITS BENEFITS Hopefully while reading this you are on your way, sitting at, or wishing you were attending the 116th NHLA Annual Convention & Exhibit Showcase in Las Vegas, Nevada. Year-after-year the NHLA Convention is seen as the number one networking event of the year in the Hardwood industry. Being the oldest and largest Hardwood gathering in the Nation also makes the Annual Convention one of the Association’s most important member benefits…but not the only one, by a long shot. Beginning in October, Hardwood Matters, the official publication of NHLA, will highlight one of the benefits of being a NHLA member. You would be surprised by how many times the statement “I didn’t know NHLA did that” is heard by the NHLA staff and we want to do our very best to spread the word about all the benefits of being a member of the National Hardwood Lumber Association. Due to the public nature of the Annual Convention, most members and nonmembers are aware of the global gathering, but are they aware of the NHLA Kiln Drying Certification program? The NHLA KD Certificate can, in some cases, replace the need for a PHYTO and is already accepted in more than 30 countries. NHLA is working diligently to have the KD Certificate accepted around the world to save exporting companies money. For a full list of countries currently accepting the NHLA KD Certificate, please visit www.nhla.com. Are members fully aware of the various programs offered exclusively to NHLA members from companies such as Lumbermen’s Underwriting Alliance and BB&T insurance? Do members know that they do not have to travel to NHLA headquarters in Memphis, TN, for continuing education opportunities? NHLA conducts short courses throughout North America and around the globe for its members. NHLA, in addition to being the founder, continues to be the Leading Partner of the Hardwood Federation, making your voice heard in Washington, DC. The benefits mentioned above are just a sampling, there is so much more to come. But don’t wait on the articles. If you’d like to know more about the benefits of NHLA membership, please do not hesitate to contact me personally at j.hester@nhla.com or 901-399-7558. NHLA looks forward to continually serving the needs of its membership both here and around the globe. ■ BY JOHN HESTER, DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP, NATIONAL HARDWOOD LUMBER ASSOC., MEMPHIS, TN 901-377-1818 www.nhla.com About the National Hardwood Lumber Association The world’s largest and oldest Hardwood industry association, NHLA represents more than 1,200 companies and individuals that produce, use and sell North American Hardwood lumber, or provide equipment, supplies or services to the Hardwood industry.
