Allweather Wood Treated

Allweather Wood Treated Lumber, Ready for Whatever Nature Brings Interior fire-retardant lumber and plywood in Type III multifamily construction is a growing part of Allweather Wood’s business. Fire-retardants must be kiln-dried to lock the chemical formulation into the wood. Allweather Wood has dry kilns at its locations that manufacture fire-retardant lumber and plywood. Copper-based wood preservative products are generally stained brown or cedartone to improve their appearance in exposed applications. With six wood treatment plants, Allweather Wood, located in Washougal, WA, ranks as the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western U.S. Allweather Wood’s plants are in Ukiah, CA, Loveland, CO, North Bend and White City, OR, Woods Cross, UT, and Washougal, WA. Each plant features co-located distribution with rail and truck capabilities for prompt shipment of customer orders. Two standalone distribution centers in Fontana and Woodland, California complete the company’s footprint in the West. Allweather Wood’s product mix reflects the needs of its customers in the local markets it serves. Products produced include lumber and plywood for a variety of construction types including agricultural, industrial, and residential. Common end-uses of Allweather Wood treated lumber and plywood include bridges, decks, docks, fences, framing, joists, landscaping, pole barns, sill plate, studs, sub flooring, and wall sheathing. Each location offers various pressure treatments as well as several modes of delivery; rail, truck, will-call and even barge access at a few of the locations,” said Katelyn Sullivan, Director, Treating Operations for Allweather Wood. To best meet customer needs, Allweather Wood partners with Koppers Performance Chemicals of Griffin, GA as its supplier of wood preservative and fire-retardant chemical formulations. These chemical formulations are pressure impregnated into a variety of wood species, including Douglas-fir, Hem fir, Southern Yellow Pine, Lodgepole Pine, and Ponderosa Pine. Products produced undergo third-party quality control inspection in accordance with American Wood Protection Association (AWPA) industry standards. “Koppers Performance Chemicals is a leader in wood preservation and fire-retardant formulations. We have economies of scale and handle all the technical and code compliance on the back end so companies like Allweather Cabinet & Furniture Components Gang-Ripped & Defected Blanks Shiplap & Nickle-Gap Paneling Project: Maxx Royal Kemer, Turkey Architect & Photo: Baraka Architects Atlanta, GA Cleveland, GA Crystal Spring, PA Clarksville, TN www.hardwoodweb.com 800.476.5393 Wood don’t have to worry about any of that,” said Travis Hixon, Technical Manager, Commercial Business for Koppers Performance Chemicals. Wood preservative formulations include borate, copper azole (CA), and micronized copper azole (MCA). Borate formulations are typically used for framing applications not exposed to wetting conditions. Borate treated products often feature a blue or green dye to distinguish them from untreated wood. Copper-based formulations help protect wood against termite damage and fungal decay in exposed exterior applications like decks, fences, and landscaping. A brown or cedartone color is typically applied pre-treatment to these products to improve their appearance in exposed applications. Fire-retardant formulations reduce the flame spread rating of lumber and plywood allowing those products to be used in International Building Code (IBC) regulated applications such as Type III multifamily construction. Fire-retardant formulations are specified for above ground/interior construction or above ground/exterior construction. Allweather Wood manufactures fire-retardant lumber and plywood for above ground/interior construction. A red dye is usually added to the chemical formulation to distinguish fire-retardant products from untreated wood. “We believe our capability to manufacture interior fire-retardant lumber and plywood for the important multifamily market will help us grow our business in the coming years,” said Mike Thelen, Executive VP for Allweather Wood. Thelen continued, “Much of the buildable, undeveloped land west of the Mississippi is located in wildfire prone Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas where fire-retardant lumber and plywood can be successfully used to meet code requirements.” Dealers and distributors quoting multifamily construction packages are encouraged to contact the Allweather Wood sales team for additional information.
