Columbia Vista Joins the Western Forest Products Family Producing18,000,000 bdft. annually Vancouver, BC–Western Forest Products Inc., recently announced that a wholly-owned subsidiary of Western has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Columbia Vista Corporation and certain related entities (collectively “Columbia Vista”) located in Vancouver, WA, for consideration Don Demens of US.5 million, including working capital of US.7 million. Working capital to be acquired is subject to a final determination at closing. Columbia Vista is a lumber manufacturer that focuses production on Douglas Fir specialty products for the Japanese and U.S. markets. Columbia Vista operates a sawmill business in Washington State and has been in business for over 60 years. The operations employ approximately 90 employees and produced approximately 60 million board feet of lumber in 2017. Don Demens, Western’s president and CEO, said, “We are excited to welcome Columbia Vista’s employees to Western. This acquisition is consistent with our strategy of pursuing margin-focused business opportunities that complement our position in selected markets. Bob has strong relationships in the forestry sector in the region and will be invaluable as we look to grow our business.” The transaction will be financed with cash on hand and available credit facilities and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019. Completion of the transaction is subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Western is an integrated Canadian forest products company and the largest coastal British Columbia timberlands operator and lumber producer. The Company has an annual available harvest of approximately 6 million cubic meters of timber, of which 5.8 million cubic meters is from Crown lands. Western has a lumber capacity of approximately 1.1 billion board feet from seven sawmills. More details are available at www.westernforest.com. Hancock Lumber Announces Yarmouth Expansion and Upgrades Yarmouth, ME–Hancock Lumber’s facility here is in the midst of a multiphase upgrade. Phase 1 was completed before the end of 2018, with phase 2 to come this year, bringing the operation to a new level of customer service and efficiency. A company press release stated, “We moved our logistics and delivery teams temporarily to the Brunswick store as we added exterior storage and overhangs to our current warehouse in Yarmouth. Our logistics team did an amazing job as we temporarily moved our operations to Brunswick, and we appreciate our customers’ support along the way.” The multi-phase project includes the following upgrades: Increased covered, outdoor storage Re-siding and re-roofing the warehouse Upgraded wireless network to help power YardPro customer service tools Complete gut and reorganization of the warehouse interior to improve customer flow and product organization In 2019, Hancock Lumber will undergo a major renovation of the warehouse interior, pouring a new floor and redesigning the layout. This will improve the customer experience and create a better shopping experience for customers picking up product at the yard. Hancock Lumber also announced that it will open two new kitchen design showrooms in Yarmouth and Windham, ME. Located diagonally across from the lumberyard at 18 Yarmouth Crossing Drive, the Yarmouth kitchen design showroom opened for business in December, while the Windham space opens in January 2019. Additionally, Eric Dolloff, who has been general manager of Hancock Lumber’s Damariscotta branch since 2006, has been elected the president of the Retail Lumber Dealers Association of Maine.
