SOUTHERN ITALY BETWEEN PAST AND PRESENT<br />
The following paper pres<strong>en</strong>ts the graecophone minorities living in Southern Italy according to their<br />
geographical distribution and discusses the preval<strong>en</strong>t theories for their origin by introducing us to the<br />
most important linguists and philologists who have studied their idioms the main characteristics of<br />
which are provided. As a vivid illustration of their tradition throughout time, serves finally a selection<br />
of folk poetry.<br />
