Windmill tripods protected with Ecospeed
In 2008, Holland’s Corrosion & Water Control (CWC) ordered the coating of the area
around newly-installed ICCP anodes on six windmill tripods owned by Offshore Wind
Technology (OWT), in Verdal, Norway. Last month the same protection was ordered
for a new project, this time to be carried out on the legs of an offshore platform
being built for Weserwind at Harland & Wolff Heavy Industries shipyard in Belfast.
Each of the six windmill tripods consists of six braces with a dielectric shield on it,
amounting to a total of 36 areas that were coated with Ecospeed during the first project.
The area around the anodes is coated to create a dielectric shield that protects the
underlying steel from mechanical damage and ensures that the surface stays smooth.
This is necessary to achieve an even spreading of the electric current given off by the
anodes. The current is used to prevent corrosion on the underwater structure,
which therefore does not need to be coated.
Together with the dielectric shields, the small cofferdams connecting the anodes
to the power supply are also coated with Ecospeed.
An Ecospeed inspector was present during the application last year and will also
be present during this new project. This is part of our standard procedure and is
necessary to offer our customers the highest possible quality and the accompanying
Ecospeed warranty. mBy applying three 500µm layers on each area instead of
two the dielectric shields will stay intact longer than any other paint could have
made possible. This ensures that the anodes will be able to give the windmill
tripods lasting protection against corrosion.
Verzakking windmolens
Bijna alle windmolens in het 200
miljoen euro kostende windmolenpark
verzakt. Door nog onbekende oorzaak
is schuiven de onderdelen van de
masten langzaam in elkaar. Eind
augustus hadden Shell en Nuon, de
eigenaren van het windpark, nog geen
idee hoe ze het probleem moeten
oplossen. Door nog onbekende
oorzaak is het bovenstuk van de
windmolens enkele centimeters dieper
het middenstuk in gezakt dan vooraf
was berekend. De verzakking kwam
aan het licht tijdens een inspectie bij
een van windmolens. Bij 24 molens
is inmiddels hetzelfde probleem
geconstateerd. Shell benadrukt dat
de verzakking vooralsnog geen invloed
heeft op het opwekken van energie.
Ecospeed application on brace of
windmill tripod in Norway.
Van Oord bouwt Belwind
Finished brace of windmill tripod.
Belgische investeerders is aandeelhouder in Belwind.
Hefeiland Goliath
in gebruik
