Hay fever-busting
Bouquets
With record pollen counts in evidence, the Flower Council
of Holland decided it was an ideal opportunity to launch a
hay fever-proof bouquet.
The aim was simple, to let consumers know that they don‘t
have to avoid buying flowers for themselves, or their hay
fever-suffering friends as gifts and instead to head over to
their local florist and ask for low-pollen blooms.

At this time of year it is really hard
to decide whether to go with
colour or to opt for a white and
green theme in your designs! There
are so many beautiful flowers
available that inspire us in what
we do and, to be honest, even we
can’t decide which is best. It has to
be more about the occasion rather
than personal preference that tells
you what colours and flowers to
use. We have been told that there
won’t be as many glut opportunities
this year when there is an over
production and prices plummet.
The weather is hot, hot, hot - so be
cool in white or go with hot colours
in your work - it’s your choice and
it’s your opportunity. Go for it!

Put together your own
social media compositions
Several readers have been telling us about their efforts to create mood boards for their
social media pages and some have had great success. It doesn’t take too much time
and you don’t even need an expensive camera to do them. The most successful take a
seasonal approach or even focus on colour blending. As designers we hoard all sorts
of treasures that we’ve saved over the years, so here’s your opportunity to use some to
make your own. The visual balance needs to be thought through and using snatches of
hand written poems or old letters and/or books is also popular but remember to think
about contrast too. One other tip from our photographer, try to use natural light wherever
possible; if you want to take it further, you can progress to using the free Adobe Lightroom
APP - he tells us that it’s easy to use!
