Lateral incisor absence: a huge challenge for the
Esthetic Dentistry
Abstract
The potential of contemporary restorative
techniques on treating the absence of upper lateral
incisors is presented on this article. Even with early
diagnose, on most of the cases, esthetic treatment
is often carried out on the patient’s fully-grown
stage, with great psychological involvement of
the patient. The multidisciplinary approach for this
type of anomaly should include the orthodontist,
the implantology specialist and the esthetic
dentistry specialist. The resolution of the case is
directly related to the early planning and beginning
of the treatment. A good coordination among the
specialties related to the Esthetic Dentistry seems
to be the better way to treat these cases, and a long
time of treatment can be used. The modern esthetic
treatments with composite and porcelain veneers
can offer excellent results and are recommended
for adult patients. These techniques demand a lot
of practice and experience from the dentist and a
well established clinical protocol. The crescent use
of composites due to its recent evolution opposes
to the use of porcelain. New concepts, materials
and restorative techniques are allied to teeth
conservativeness and technique reversibility.
