Original research papers presented at SPIE conferences are available online in the SPIE Digital Library within two to four weeks after the event, with print
volumes and CD-ROM collections available a few weeks later. This eFirst publication model gets the author's work out to the community faster, and provides
researchers all over the world with immediate access on publication.
Proceedings of SPIE are among the most cited references in the patent literature, and are indexed in numerous online databases including INSPEC, Ei
Compendex, Physics Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, SPIN, International Aerospace Abstracts, ISI Index to Scientific and Technical Proceedings, and the
Smithsonian/NASA Astrophysics Data System Abstract Service (ADS).
With 235,000 papers covering 1990 to the present, the SPIE Digital Library is the world's largest collection of research papers in optics and photonics. The
more than 18,000 new papers added annually are written by engineers and scientists doing advanced R&D in areas such as micro- and nano-technologies,
communications and information technologies, defense and industrial sensing, lasers and electro-optics, biomedical optics, optical system design, and
electronic imaging.
