The Wired Open Labs series is now in its fifth year, and despite the immense disruptions we have all experienced recently, we are thrilled to be continuing our provision of access to unique creative experiences with outstanding Australian artists and artisans. This year's workshop program will be released seasonally with the Winter series spanning 3 months from June through to August. The Winter season has workshops to suit every creative appetite from beginner dabblers, through to green thumbs, DIY’ers and experienced creatives. At each workshop you will learn new skills, whilst meeting like-minded people, and enjoying delicious snacks and refreshments. which entitles NSW residents to 2 x
$25 ‘Discover’ vouchers.

annually provides a $100 voucher towards
creative activities. Our workshops have
varying age requirements so please
contact us before enrolling.
Thanks to donations, our ‘pay it forward’
scheme and a wonderful partnership with
Casteleden Co we offer subsidised and free
workshop places to those impacted by the
Dunns road bushfires. A brief EOI is required
to self nominate or nominate a friend.
Many teachers across a range of subject
areas have recorded our workshops as
‘Teacher Identified PD’ towards their
accreditation requirements.
We prioritise health and safety. We are a
registered Covid Safe organisation with a
Covid-Safe plan and will continue to follow
health advice from the NSW Government.

In this 2 hour workshop you will learn:
■ Simple hand building techniques to make
one stoneware piece – either a cup, vase,
planter, bowl or plate.
■ Tissue transfer and underglaze painting
techniques to decorate two pieces of
porcelain jewellery – such as a pendant
and a pair of big dangly earrings.
Each participant will complete one
homeware item and two jewellery pieces,
which will be taken home by Emma to be
glazed, fired to 1220C, and returned by post
directly to you.

In this 2.5 hour workshop you will learn:
■ About harvesting willow and its history of
use in woven forms;
■ Basic willow weaving techniques and how
to apply them to different shapes; and
■ How to weave onto an existing frame
template, creating a visually striking piece
specific to your interests.
Each participant will take home a
substantial, decorative, handmade woven
form, for display in the house or garden,
and woven using locally sourced willow.

In this 2 hour workshop you will learn:
■ How to make and care for your own
Kokedama. Originating from Japan, this
ancient art is a twist on indoor planting
and involves binding a plant in moss and
twine, transforming plants into mini works
of art.
■ How to fashion a twine hanger to
creatively display your new kokedama.
■ There will also be time during the
workshop for plenty of plant related Q&A.
Each attendee will leave with 2 x
kokedamas (one small; one large) and a
twine hanger to display their new creation.

WORLD IN A JAR

■ How to carefully arrange all the layers in

very own mini plant world in the form
of a Terrarium.

best landscape photos;

media and what it can do for you.

■ The step by step process of how to cast
in resin, a skill you will be able to continue
using at home.
■ A number of creative casting techniques,
including how to use colour, then moving
on to more creative techniques such as
metallic powders, glitter, sparkly confetti,
gold leaf and more.
■ Hand sanding techniques and the
assembly of the earrings.
Each participant will leave with at least 4
pairs of ready to wear earrings that will
definitely be one of a kind!

■ How to decorate a cheese board and set
of coasters with resin;
■ The design and creation process of a
resin artwork using different techniques;
■ How to use resin, pigments and other
materials to create your artwork on a
specially designed resin board.
Each participant will decorate a
cheeseboard and a set of coasters which
will be returned by post directly to your
home once the resin is cured.

■ 'String making', or ‘cordage’ by hand
■ To make the body or form of a random
woven basket
■ Which plants in your garden and nearby
bushlands are suitable for foraging and
weaving
■ How to store, prepare, harvest and weave
plants from the garden
■ Techniques for control when making freeform
sculptural, organic pieces.
Each participant will leave with a random
woven art piece to hang or display and a
new way of looking at the plants around them.
